The Skittles Touch

Scott_Bromley
Maybe it's the brilliant acting, or the cameras slow pan, but whatever it is, this new Skittles commercial reaches new heights of hilarity. In a few more months, these commercials could technically be the funniest thing on television. And that is sad, America.

    • Only just seen this one - I don't think that ad made it over to the UK. That's in my top 5 adverts of all time, just behind this one.

    • Garth Brooks' "Touch 'em All" foundation for kids. Seems he didn't think about the consequences of the foundation's name before he moved forward with it.

    • I only wish there was an "I LOVE This" rating button for this one. Does anyone know which agency did this commercial? It's so money.

    • Oh my god, Scott! This ad really makes my week! When advertising gets surreal, existential, and strangely nihilistic, I feel a strange sense of satisfaction. This ad promotes the very existence of Skittles as a bizarre tragedy that fills one with a sense of both foreboding and a longing for Skittles. “Is it awesome, when you can’t hold your newborn baby boy in you arms?” our protagonist asks. This humble commercial becomes a meditation on the lifelong struggle to balance conflicting desires and animal impulses. While I am attracted to the idea of transforming my everyday surroundings into a skittering hail of colorful candies, this ad reminds me that there are higher pleasures and goals- such as family and love- for which I should strive. Yet our humble onlookers, with whom we, as viewers, identify, are puzzled by our protagonist’s negative outlook. Empathizing with the employees of this Staples-like retailer, we are comforted by the fact that they, too, cave in to the allure of endless Skittles. It’s quite an epiphany. I could go on, but my wireless connection is rather slow. This is 200 posts, which happens, I guess, when one incentivizes quantity over quality. Thanks for the Skittles, Scott!

    • Ok. I am sorry but those commercials are some of the most subversive and weird things I've ever seen on network television. Brilliant. The beard one? Disturbing. Singing bunny? Funny AND an homage to Monty Python. The guy being milked by the machine. SO disturbing AND funny.

Lordy. Some ad exec needs a raise...and to moderate his mushroom intake.
