Hey, look! It's Joe Hanson, one of the two biggest assholes on current. You and Ben Hoffman should get together and just be assholes to each other, so the rest of us don't have to be annoyed by you!

One of the issues in the United States is that football (as a Brit please read 'soccer' every time I write football!) isn't up to the standard set in Europe. Yes, perhaps it's a corporate thing, or a scoring thing, or a no time-outs thing, but until football in America reaches the standard set in England, Spain, Italy, France, and Germany, it will remain a niche attraction.
David Beckham was a big name star but he went to L.A. Galaxy well past his prime, in fact, he hasn't performed at the level he did for Manchester United for several years.
Another more telling point is that Cricket isn't played professionally at all in the U.S, and it has been reported only this week that the 20/20 version of the game could take over from football as the most popular sport in the world by, not entirely coincidentally, the year 2020.

It is only lacking in america because the Networks and sponsors don't understand how to monetize the advertising potential of Soccer. 45mins without a commercial is unheard of in this country.
The rest of the world get that a sponsors name on a jersey sold after the game actually has more impressions than some "spot" between downs in "NFL Football"
I actually switched to AIG after years of AllState when Manchester United became their sponsor. Prior to that i live in Japan and used a Vodaphone cell as a result of my ManUTD jerseys.
Look Nike understands but few others. BTW in Old Trafford "Bud" is their most visible sponsor.
So just blame Madison Ave.

I love my "American Football" and I love my "Football" what you wrongfully named it "soccer."
You will never going to understand it until you start by calling it by the proper name: "Football"
We Americans are so "damm arrogant," Come on "baby" it is "Football."Like the airplane pioneer and inventor "Santos Dumont." Many Americans actually think that was the "Wright Brothers" the first to fly an aircraft.

Come on, give soccer a chance. It's not a soccer mom sport nor is it an ethnic thing. I'm American and love FC Barcelona. It's a beautiful game and many competitions. MLS has a while to go but check out all other countries, the EPL(English Premier League) and La Liga(Spanish Primera) are both really good.
Point is get out of what you're accustomed to! You're missing a lot!

Anyone who says that soccer is just a ball being kicked back and forth, is completely ignorant.
Probably the same type of person who voted for George Bush. Twice.
Open your mind to something different, you generally find that you've been missing out.

I am not responding to you "Paramore1" I am responding to "mikefreak", that said that "football" is boring compared to "American Football".
How the response board works:
For our fellow friends that have not realized how this board works. When someone post on the board, everyone that is participating will receive a message from his posting. That does not mean the posted individual it is responding direct to you. Observe the sequence of the responses. If the response is right bellow the previous one it is obviously that it was intented to that person.

o, paramore1!stopnoise has commented on something that you posted on Current.com:

Football Leagues around the World can care less if some Americans do not want to
participate, they have the whole rest of the World doing it. , however I had posted this, so I am confused.I live in Southern Cali and in South O.C people seem to love soccer where I live in fact, girl teams are very big here, I loved playing cus it does amazing things for your body. not really sure why you would e-mail me a lecture?

I think soccer just isn't interesting enough to get people to watch it. I mean in football people are getting tackled and bones are breaking and its just a whole lot of fun. In soccer, however, most the time its just a ball getting kicked back and forth. I know sometimes soccer can be cool and interesting, but at least for now people in America are gonna think the same thing I said before; soccer is just a ball getting kicked back and forth and is pretty boring.

"What's Wrong With Soccer?"
- Nothing!
Except that the name "Soccer" given by us, Americans is not right and we all know it. The name is not the right one for a sport that around the entire World, except America is called: "Football"
Just think about it for a moment here:
If football is called "Soccer" then "American football" should be called "Handball." They play it most of the time with their hands and finalize the goal with their foot on the extra point. By the other hand, one the contrary to what you call, "Soccer" is played the entire time with their foot. Only one player, the goal keeper is allowed to hold the ball with his hand in the delimited goal area. Therefore let us straight things up here so you will not "shame" yourself when traveling to any Country around the World.
1. One played here in the USA, is called "American Football"
the other one playing all around the World is called:
2. FootballCase resolved. Now go out there and play it!

That's the most biased thing I've EVER watched on Current. period.
I don't know how Current decides what goes on air and what doesn't, but this decision seriously makes me question their judgment. If I had kids I wouldn't let them watch Current unsupervised anymore. Because of the thoughts and prejudice it would put in their minds at an early age, TV/Media is a big influence in a kids life. Honestly just be careful.
Also this dude's whole theme of comedy was just so corny and lame it was like he was copying Stephen Colbert's brand of comedy but VERY BADLY.
By the end of the pod I also was infuriated and waiting for the how-to for commenting/feedback on the show. I created an account for this comment.
I'm not flipping back to CurrentTv for another week- that's my own little punishment, that and this guy's pods are perma-banned!

Music, Art, Sex, Science and Soccer is what unites the whole world. You don't need thousands of dollars to play or put on a profesional match; as with other sports such as american football. All you need is a ball or can and 22 players, thats it. A sport wich all can afford.

Soccer is a real sport compared to almost any american sport. But even though it is making great advances in the U.S. I do not believe it will catch on. America is fixated on individuals doing individual things. Soccer is and always will be a team sport, and Americans dont like that. There are the few athletes that stand out, but for the most part it is about the team as a whole, not just one player.

Joe- I have always enjoyed your various bits until now! The soccer pod you put together infuriated me. To question, even jokingly, whether or not soccer is really a sport is a completely douche-bag move. You are now an official idiot. I understand it bothers you that soccer doesn't have a stoppage in play every 10seconds for you to go grab another beer and hotdog. Perhaps you are right and a real sport designates a seventh inning stretch for the fat-fans to take break from watching the fat-athletes and after a nice long & refreshing commercial break those "real sport" fans can get back to watching those "real athletes" maybe trot around a diamond once... You gotta be kidding me...get a clue homeboy...soccer is a beautiful game and if you can't recognize that you are truly missing out, which is entirely ok, but who the fuck are you to question its legitimacy as a sport ? Just go back to your time-outs, your 2minute warnings and your seventh-inning stretch; I'm disappointed in you Joe-

I used to play baseball growing up but I started playing soccer at age 15 and havent stopped since. Its a fast paced game that never has a dull moment. It will take time for soccer to be one of the major sports in the United States. It is already making great progress by adding more teams to the League. Its funny how people say soccer is too long of an sport when really its one of the fastest. It takes 90 minutes to play so 2 hours at the most with half-time added. No other sports like Basketball, Football and Hockey it takes over 3 hours for a full game. Soccer can be a big thing here, people just need to give it a chance.

It's also really hard to promote soccer in the US because the sport has no time outs, therefore less ads. US is run by it's abilty to generate revenue... no ad revenue, no corporate interest in soccer.
