Ace Hardchester's Interesting People. Part One: The Failed Internet Celebrity.

AceHardchester
I had the pleasure of sitting down with David Elliott, a failed internet celebrity, to discuss his plans to become world famous. It was an interesting encounter if only for the fact that he actually does think he is famous.

This is to be part one of a series in which I travel the country in search for unsung heroes: the brave failures, the unsung average people, who do not succeed in completing their dreams. These people deserve attention just as much as any Oscar winning film star, and for that, I have tracked them down.

If you know of any interesting people, please send me a message; I would love to talk to them.

    • I'm glad people like it and even found it funny.

I have about five interviews scheduled for the next few months. I'm going to be talking to a hand model for infomercials, an unsuccessful ghost hunter, and a man who wants to arm America's children. Should be interesting.

    • Very true, huntre. What gets me, personally, is that I've been training in theater for almost a decade now, and I do not feel I am ready yet for a lead performance. And yet you have untrained "talent" popping up all over the place, thinking the fact that they've "always dreamed about doing this!" is enough to justify their actions.

    • The ego is an amazing beast. It tells the brain that everything it thinks is important and matters enough to be broadcast to others who will, in turn, come back for more. Those nifty little cameras and mics make it all possible, whether anyone bares witness or not. It's, "Look Ma! I'm on TV!", run amok and, in most cases, easily disposable. Good pod.

    • Mildly amusing. No worse than some of the dross that gets on current. I guess you're making fun of some of that, too, aren't you?

    • Good work. The Internet Celebrity David Elliott could essentially destroy the talentless proles who clutter YouTube if enough people helped him on his quest. I love that you treat him seriously, Ace. Good work.

    • I would certainly never advise anyone to willing get a Betty Boop tattoo, my friend. Your tale has put a lot of things in perspective, and I shall endeavor to go without my wig at least three times a week.

    • Cosmo, you wouldn't possibly understand what it is like having a tattoo on the side of your head stemming from basic training. Basically, I was bald by 22, and the rest of my unit thought it would be funny to get me drunk and tattoo Betty Boop on the side of my head. It's hard to be taken seriously as a journalist when you have a huge black and white cartoon woman on the side of your dome.

    • Cosmo has hit on something. As a balding man myself, I do not feel the need to hide behind wigs. Granted, Ace might look like some sort of demon were he to take off his wig, but that could easily land him a role on Fox News.

    • I can't tell you how glad I am to have come across this. I lurk here quite often, but you prompted me to register to wish you a congratulations. There are quite a few videos on here for delusional internet celebrities, and you have satirized them all perfectly! Well done! The only thing missing were superfluous comparisons to talented celebrities.

    • I'm tickled pink that you've decided to present this argument in such a funny fashion. You are definitely walking on the less traveled path.

I'm also loving how you got one of the "internet celebrity's" relatives to post on his behalf!

    • Definitely agree, Benico. The guy has a small cult following, and I did a google search to see if anyone had actually heard of him, or if I was just kidding myself into thinking he had talent. I'm still not entirely sure if he's serious or not, but, to be honest, I think that's the point.

I can only imagine what he'd be capable of if he was given a bigger audience.

    • Ace, you have added and extra dimension to the career of the Internet Celebrity David Elliott. I have tracked him since the beginning and have been captivated by his videos and website. However, this video has brought this man to the next level on the celebrity scale and I just hope that the brilliance of the Internet Celebrity will become more prominent in the press nd will not be limited to his current internet status.
      Good job Ace.

    • You do raise an interesting point about the younger generations' obsession with finding fame on the internet, but I don't know if this is the best way to highlight your concern.

I can accept that, to a point, you're deliberately trying to appear amateurish to mock the amateurs you're concerned about. However, wouldn't you be just as well off bringing this up as a comedy rant?

I also see a delightful irony in a woman who is presumably your sister e-mailing people to tell them about your project.

Nevertheless, it does raise an important question; one we seem to be ignoring quite blissfully, unfortunately.

    • I think some people not realize that you're trying to highlight your real concerns through humorous methods. I hope I am underestimating people. Good job.

    • As I said on the phone, I love the intentionally irony of making a video about amateurs as amateurish as possible. That was a stroke of genius. I only hope people get the message.

    • Okay, I had to take this down because I had failed to beep out the cuss words. Please let me know if any of you hear any. I'm not liking this new software I've been using.
