US state passes droopy pants law

Image
ablindeye
The Florida Senate wants public school students to pull up their pants. Lawmakers passed a bill Thursday that could mean suspensions for students with droopy britches.

It won't become law unless the House of Representatives passes a companion measure.

this is hilarious to me...

    • heh =D well put SugarMama'...It's funny, it's not just schools that have "expectations" as dress codes go. Try getting a good-paying job like that with your pants half-way down your ass. But I like this question particularly:

"Why are people so against giving kids boundaries?"

My simple answer: as regards more than a few "adult" issues and kids, people are plain idiots. They act like because kids CAN chronically twist social mores or because the enjoy doing it, "naturally" they have the "right" to completely ignore biding expectations altogether, with the further expectation that those who disagree, should roll over and "accept" it, or they'll suffer somehow being characterized as "out of step" or "out of touch" with reality. ("You don't understand!" --"Oh, but I do. And far more than I even want to.") Well, talk about trivializing/muddying the issues. Clearly the only intelligence they want to hear lacks any due consideration of past or future consequence. Not too smart.

And on this particular issue, the intelligence is particularly half-ass ;P Heh..."low riding" might work for the back yard or maybe the dark corner of the "hood" you come from, heck you might even dare to look like an idiot at the mall, but not at school man. School is for LEARNING! ya heard???? something called "EDUCATION!" ;D something hard enough to do with your pants on. it's definitely NOT a petty phukn catwalk.

      samonster34:
"i wasn't allowed to wear spaghetti straps or shorts without pockets, boys aren't allowed to sag their pants" (way to tell 'em samonster34...heeding some social expectation ain't so bad)

      dahnae:
"i lose respect for someone who parades around with anything hanging out of anywhere -- i think it represents a lack of dignity..." (or general intelligence maybe (yeah that's an insult) or more generally, just another sign how rabidly disconjointed society is becoming these days with those who don't think school is for getting an actual education).

    • I have no interest in seeing some punk's ass hanging out of his pants, however I think law-makers should worry about frying bigger fish, epecially in the school systems. Free expression is one thing, but I don't think it would kill a kid to have to pull his pants up while he's at school for eight hours. Why are people so against giving kids boundaries? I think it's completely inappropriate to have your ass hanging out at school. As a taxpayer and a parent, it DOES matter what I think.

    • LOL =D ...interesting comments you guys! lol what a great post ablindeye!!! =D

think I'm probably much more inclined to agree with Varex's expression of thingz! =D that's closer to the kind of colorful freedom of "expression" I'm talkin' 'bout! LOL =D I don't know about making it a law, but dayum...it's already bordering on public indecency!!! like this guy on the bus the other day...talk about "seeing" butt-crack, phuk i swear, you could freakin SMELL it on this "phat" mfer!!! ewwwww!!!! he was one sick mofo! yeah, as Varex' would say LOL "pull those phukn pants up!" LOL

and I wouldn't be too quick to even say it's quite the vogue beads or bell-bottoms were. the nature of this shit is more like voyeuristic bs parading around as "misunderstood" fashion! =D lol calling this "freedom of streaks...err i mean, speech!" =D LOL man, i don't know...(there might be more of a case for ebonics!!!) LOL but what idiotic bs this is!

and damn funny at the same time! LOL =D

thanks for all the comments here guys!!!! you can believe when those butt-crackin' crackers take the same ride, I let 'em pass their funky a$$ ALL the way to back of the bus as far as they wanna go! =D

I'm going to guess you've never "low rided" I used to do it. Not only cause it was what everyone else was doing, but I actually found it much more comfortable!

    • i lose respect for someone who parades around with anything hanging out of anywhere -- i think it represents a lack of dignity. however, i wouldn't go so far as to ban it because it's my personal opinion. do i care about their taste? nah. i just don't see why anyone would go to such uncomfortable extremes for a fashion that makes them look like a disheveled bundle of suck.

    • The point is, Varex_Sythe, it doesn't matter what YOU want to see or don't want to see. This is an issue of free expression. You don't have to like it; in fact, how you feel about it is irrelevant. I personally think the baggy pants look (as depicted here) is completely idiotic. Doesn't matter. It's a form of speech and can't be outlawed. I mean that literally - this law, if it really passes, will not stand up if challenged in court because it violates the Constitution.

    • Oh God, this will be gone in a few years' time anyway... The minute they outlaw this, a new trend will have already arrived. Don't these old people have more important things to think about?

    • Saggy pants are one thing, but that belt line is below the kids ass in the picture. This is just a stronger way to reinforce a dress code in public schools, and people are more of less saying, "WTF"?

Now I think that it is silly to make laws to ban things like love beads and bell bottoms because those are either accessories or they are fully serving their function as clothing; however, I have no desire to see either underwear or asscrack while I'm in class or school. So to be simple, pull up your goddamn pants. If you want to have baggy pants then buy your pants a few sized too big and wear them at your waist. Use a belt if needed. Don't expose your pretty patterned boxers for everyone else to see.

    • What is the harm is saggy pants? People's definition of respect changes throughout history. In my opinion, these adults certainly isn't giving us any respect.

    • Hilarious and so, so, SO dumb. This is like someone passing a law against love beads and bell bottoms in 1968, or zoot suits in the 1940s. "I just don't understand kids today! So let's make a law to make 'em dress respectable-like."
