remember the aboriginals, Isn't that what they did to several of them, see how it feels, douse in what they indured, i'd crap on your flag for that! They were more human that the whales, I viewed several and yep, take them as racial.

As an Australian living in a large city I was recently shocked by the racism displayed by a debating team from a school in a very multicultural area. Perhaps we are importing our racists, as this was the first blatant display of racism I have ever witnessed in my life. The affirmative team had encountered this racist team before and were set on beating them just because they are so racist. I know there is racism everywhere but I feel pretty sure that Australians are not more racist than people everywhere else in the world. For example I have seen shocking examples of genocide in many countries. To assume Australians are racist, is surely racist in itself!
Also in some areas Kangaroos are dying out, and in others they are in plague proportions compared to their natural populating habits. Kangaroo meat is the best quailty you can get. High in protein and low in fat. If we can't relocate these roos, then we should eat them. They taste damn good too.
Finally, The Chasers War is the best "send up" news show in existence. It is meant to be funny. Even my 14 year old child understands their irony. - 4 years ago

Aw, come on, kiddies. The racist tag was just to call your attention to this killing spree around the Japanese waters.

Oh, that is my favorite Top Gear episode. I promise not all us American's are like that....not even the ones in the red states.
I would say Australia and America both have a poor humanitarian track record when it comes to indigenous populations

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgoQ6aAWDmoaustralia loves pauline hanson!!
i remember this broad when i was in college. I had a dude at my school on a tennis scholarship and we were talking about australia. i said how much australia was garbage and he said what? you are the first person to say that...how can you say that? and i told him what happened to me when i was there witrth my sisters about 10 years before...and then i brought up this trick..and he said..ohh.. yea well aboriginese are not like native americans here...they are different..then he proceeded to just trounce them because he knew i wasnt one of them...like it wouldnt offend me. and I said, yea bro, well looks like if you would have been the same way 10 years ago when i was there. and he looked at me and walked away.
few days later, he got the nerve to come up to me and apologies and say that i was right, he probably would have. and he called his parents and told them about our conversation. his parents couldnt care less, he said, but it bothered him, because he liked black women and he knows tht his folks taught him to stay away from "coloureds". I said it was cool, i cant change a persons mind overnight...after that we were cool, but i always wondered if he was calling me a boong behind my back!
probably was, but we were still cool until i graduated.

hahahhaahahah, Australians aren't racist we just think that as a race we are better than the rest of the world, is that so bad ? Joke.
I wouldn't call australians racist, I am an australian - honestly i have found racism so far any part of my life, that it is literally a big joke.
Frankly in regards to whaling australians are hipocrits we kill 50 million kangaroos each year, and we will protest japan whaling some thousands of whales, provided they do it in a sustainable way i don't care if they kill whales.
Why is it people care more about a beached whale then their own pet at home, why do humans feel some attachment to these animals, but will squash a spider, or kill a snake ? If a bird hits your car, you don't care.
Animal Carers only ever want to look after the endagered / cute animals so they can feel good about themselves. Animal rights is ridiculous, its a whale , and probably tastes good. - 4 years ago

Sorry my friend, I am from Australia! Just opening up the debate, as on the whole I know we from Australia just love this kind of ironic and satirical comedy. But my point is that many Japanese see Australia as trying to exert some sort of wiser, older uncle attitude over Asia in general. Some say this is much the same as the attitude America takes over "regime change" in the wider world since as long as it's been a super power. I think any readers here should look at the situation of indigenous Australians, to say their problems are "self-induced" is very problematic. I don't think their grave losses of culture, community and history are self-induced.
I just found it really interesting what some Japanese had to say about the attitudes of Australians if you click on the link and see the youtube comments. I don't necessarily credit them all, but an interesting response I had not expected.I love Chasers and their "War on Everything."
Check this video for further hilarity. If you have not seen them before, this one always makes me laugh...

This is not racist it is just funny! I do not see what the big fuss is all about? I just think people with no sense of humor would think otherwise, but as for me it is funny, so it made my day!

Clearly none of you live in Australia. The Chaser is fast becoming an institution as a left-field look at the news. It's not to be taken seriously. Sure, they cross the line, but laregly for fun. I didn't see any of the Japanese people they hit with the harpoon complaining. They've got a sense of humour.
As for Australia being racist, it can be, but arguably less so than America, where being black is a serious disadvantage. Many of Australia's problems around aboriginals are self-induced, but Prime Minister Kevin Rudd's recent official apology for their maltreatment will hopefully go a long way to sustaining a period of reconcilliation.

It's not necessarily racist- just stupid. Asking the ambassador was as far as they should have gone- going up to random Japanese people on the street and trying to harpoon them was crossing the line. It's generally very hurtful to go up to someone and ask them "are you____?" and then to hit them because of that, even if it's just pretend. This is where passionate activists always go wrong- their original intentions are good, but then they cross the line in their method and end up turning off moderates by going too far towards the other extreme.

Japanese whaling is different from say, Canadian Inuit seal hunting. The Inuit use the whole animal and follow a very spiritual process. Which is completely different from using, as Varex mentioned, a complicated gas powered boat and taking what you want.

If whaling was really an important part of Japanese culture then the Japanese whalers would be out hunting whales in Junks or some other kind of boat structure that could do without engines and complex navigational systems.

Maybe racist is the wrong word... if you read the debate from some Japanese perspectives, they think it's a kind of cultural imperialism. I wasn't so much asking if Australian's were racist per se, just if they had been blinkered on this issue. Some of the debate is pretty heated but I think most of us see this as funny - I personally prefer to err on the side of caution when considering whether or not to dine on endangered species.

its not racist, but YES THE AUSTRALIANS ARE VERY RACIST...IF NOT THE MOST RACIST IN THE WORLD!!!!! i found this out when i was a kid. went there as a kid with my sisters and since i am part native american and looked more native when i was a kid, they took us as aborigines. not one person, but maybe 90% of everyone. i was 11 and i cried my ass off...when i meet australians they are like you hate it there, why we are cool...no one says that, and then i tell them and they are like, ohh..umm well yea... and they shut up.
the whaling issue is kinda stupid really and i have no opinion about it, but the topic was is australia racist..and i say HELLZ YES. also....when S africa changed policies....a HUGE percentage of the people immigrated to australia. and they were welcomed.
