Defamer has made a video that points out the various ways in which David Letterman reused an several almost-identical opening monologue jokes only one night after telling them the first time. It doesn’t seem plausible that an entire staff of A-list comedy writers would allow this to happen as some kind of “oversight”, which begs the question: why would Dave do this? Did he feel unsatisfied with his first delivery of the monologue? Has Dave come down with the most hilarious case of Alzheimer’s of all time? What’s the gag? I don’t get it.

    • The clip suggests excessive redundancy, even for Dave. But nobody gets more mileage out of a joke than Dave and he has been doing it for years. I certinly don't think it was some kind of slip since he reads his stuff off cue cards and frequently points this out to the audience.

    • maybe he took a day off? *shrug* didn't feel like rehearsing any "new" material??? abeit, different nights, same stuff, just a different audience (and they won't know the difference)??? maybe he thought the rest of us were too busy to notice and if we did, it might be worth some ratings =D ???
