Booboo,
Look at the Leadership we've experienced the past 8 eight years and how our country has flourished with conservative Leadership. NOT! I don't necessarily think everything is going to get better the moment dems WIN the presidency (which they will), but its hard to imagine a absolute sh*t storm of terrible policy decisions, shredding of the constitution, and a display of utter disconnect, 8 years long to even come close to doing as lousy a job of leading America than we've seen out of those associated with the past two terms of this presidency."If this be treason, make the most of it."

I heard that if the US doesn't start drilling off shore in international waters any old country can start to drill. That includes countries that don't have such great safety standards and regulations. At least with the US doing the drilling there is less of a risk of destroying the ocean.
PS I'm a liberal really!

I agree that opening up drilling might just be a short term solution but we need to do it. not just tobring down current oil prices but to be able to get off a dependancy for foreign oil.we still need to give our american automakers incintives on alternative fuled vehicles and start building more nuclear power plants along with wind and solar.
people keep saying that drilling will not affect us for 5 years Ok so at least in 5 years we will be a little ahead of where we are now. This is a problem I have with both of the candidates they are too short sited in there views on energy.
This country had the same views 30 years ago during the Carter administration.
Also lift the tarrifs on the ethanol imports from Brazil and stop letting the Farm lobbyist control congress.

Hey BooBoo, you ever stop to think Al Gore started this cable outfit, and maybe, because of that, it would lean left (smart)? Apparently you didn't get the memo: Your entire Conservative operation is moronic.

booboo_36564:
No, "doing something" should be finding alternative energy sources and making them mainstream for people to use, which many people are trying to do.
drilling would only serve as a temporary relief, if that. there will come a time in the near future when there will be NO MORE OIL LEFT. its called peak oil and if we don't prepare for a change that drastic then who knows what will happen.
its sad that McCain isn't willing to think ahead about these things more... what will we be left with once we drill everything and there's no more oil to be found?

booboo_36564:
How much of a difference can off shore drilling actually make? It seems like a desperate attempt to keep living at a historical status quo. Tremendous advances toward renewable energy can be made immediately, but people in the US have to better understand the economic stimulus that can be generated through clean energy. Once that happens, looking for oil and risking ecological damage are recognized as risks not worth taking.
Acting in haste is not better than going through the more difficult but right way of achieving an objective.
To invest in clean energy and develop a better infrastructure around America I think would be a much stronger position to stand on for a Presidential hopeful.

"drilling for happiness" haha. so much for McCain embracing better environmental policies... Guess it is hard for someone older than McDonald's to look more than a few years into the future.
