Elmo has a Killer Instinct

"Fisher Price" the owners of decades of unsafe toys that support slavelike labor conditions and pollution in foreign countries so that the children of America can be oblivious to the world from which it comes, choking on the sweet air of freedom. At what cost? An Elmo that is fed up with capitalistic America.
Sarcasim set aside, I really wonder where this toy was made and if they will release the information as to what happened and who did this?
Please comment and be as creative as you want to in this open, entertaining forum!
Peace Ya'll

I despise hearing about all these new Elmo dolls. It gets annoying, really. Can't children have non-stupid toys?

It should be noted that this particular doll is programmable.
That is, by the owner.
Were there other kids in the house that are older and maybe somewhat handy with the family PC? Dad or Mom looking for some attention?
The doll takes a certain amount of information from the new owners (parents) and then fills that into some pre-programmed responses. There has also been code released that allows those responses to be changed.
Maybe it'd carry some weight if it was more than one person seeing this sort of 'behavior'.
You should note in your diatribe that the reporter also mentions how the doll is specifically programmable to have it say what you want.
To play devil's advocate here, (and it should be noted that myself and my wife as parents don't purchase lots of toys to make our kids happy) is it really the fault of the toy company if someone purchases one and chooses to use it's features for this sort of thing?
Is society really crumbling apart around us? In this case I agree that what the doll is playing back isn't good for a child to hear, but there is no conceptual reference behind it. Just because little Jimmy repeats the word 'kill' doesn't mean he understands what that implies. If a child is using the world kill in the proper context and understands the word enough to be influenced by it, you have MUCH more to worry about than some doll.

yet another "Killer Elmo", a generation of unsafe toys made cheaply in foreign countries with no closely regulated, or environmental safety standards.
This list goes on and on. Accountability seems to be lacking these days. Another reason why we need to bring the "market" back to America, where we have strict safety and health standards, and regulated working conditions which promote fair, safe treatment of employees. What do you think? - 4 years ago
