It's no secret disney would rather have PT employees than FT. They don't cost as much. When you go to work for the mouse, it's not for the money, it's for the privalige to work at the happiest place on earth.

This is not always a funny matter. I am guessing that most of you have not worked in Disneyworld. It is a very large company and it is because of all you people that wanted to go there than left(The reason for rise in ticket sales). Also, in the florida park alone there is over 60,000 cast members(Disney's way of saying employees). Overall there is good benefits right now and if somebody is not making enough money there, than there is something called the extra hours hotline if you need extra pay. Although I do see where they cast members are coming from, from experience working in Disneyworld myself, it is hard labor and requires a lot of hours, but the people who work in sweatshops are immigrants sometimes. There is a lot of cultural diversity there. Any futher comments or questions I would be happy to answer below this one.

The protest seems completely ineffective unless they can actually shut down the park. It does seem unfair other local employees aren't getting paid more though, it's not like Disney can't afford it.

"The protesters were arrested on a misdemeanor count of failure to obey a police officer and two traffic infractions, said Sgt. Rick Martinez of the Anaheim police. They were cited and released, Sgt. Chris Schneider said."
Sad pathetic cops....
"Disney's latest proposal makes health care unaffordable for hundreds of employees and creates an unfair two-tier wage system. The union also says Disney wants to create a new category of part-time employees who would receive greatly reduced benefits."
""At the other hotels in the same classification, for the same work, the workers get paid $2 to $3 an hour more.""
Evil mouse.

No one's even questioning the protesting in the first place. It's a sad thing. And they were protesting a serious issue! LABOR PRACTICES is an important issue! I wish people would overlook the irony of childhood characters getting arrested.

At least they didn't commit suicide in the parking lot... yet.
I love irony as much as the next guy, but that disturbing ritual of killing oneself under the "Happiest Place On Earth" sign is something I'll never get used to. It would be even worse if it was one of their employees in full costume.

You're right Peri, but I don't think people are going to look at like that. You have a point, but the unthinking majority won't see it like that. They don't have the perception to see the symbolism in their protest. Sadly, they'll (we'll) look at it as a joke . . .and nothing more.

All of this because The super wealthy Disney corp. doesn't want to pay for health insurance for it's employees any more. And Disney just announced that they will raise the price of admission to the park to $75.00 per day for anyone over 10 yrs. old.

Brockie:
Who can afford health care?
That's the point of the article. Disney can't pay for everyone and those that need it can't pay the portion that Disney is asking for.
It's not about stealing, it's about Disney making money to survive as a company and so they are trying to alleviate the expense of health care but giving the employees more to pay.
The real problem isn't Disney it's how much Health care cost.
but it's easy to think that Disney is rich like Oil companies. Misleading, but easy.

They make plenty of money. Its more about not letting profit percentages go down. They have to do everything to at least meet the same percentages as the year before.
What has eaten into their profits more than anything else is the rising cost of fuel and energy.

I don't know Kynmore. Wearing those costumes are getting them in the headlines.
"If it Bleeds, it Leads."
or in this case,
"If there's Beads, it Leads."
Wearing the sacred Disneyland costumes and appearing as characters without their "heads" on slices up the sacred cows of Disney in the worst way.
