What if it was nothing more than a sly move to remind folks that he was a "POW" by way of a sympathy enducing "slip-of-the-tongue"?
I wouldn't put anything past John "Desperate" McCain at this point. - 3 years ago

Did anyone else hear his comment about visiting "Azeeristan" in the debates. He's such an expert on geography he's actually been to a country no one else has ever heard of.

What an awkward Freudian slip to have made. The guy's obsessed with his POW days (and fair enough in some ways - what an awful and traumatic experience) but that's the main reason I think he'd make a terrible President, apart from his policies and VP, of course - wanting to rule the US because he's bitter and obsessed with proving he can win is not a great political motivation.

Who is to say that its even a slip of tongue. In context he could just as well be saying that the "$10 trillion dollar debt," holds us as financial prisoners to the current administration (The whole concept of the people not being able to do anything about the abuse)
Im saying lets not hang on words.. because they work both ways. Lets take a look at the big picture instead. Thanks for the clip though! :)

"You and I together will confront the ten trillion dollar debt that the federal government has run up and balance the federal budget by the end of my term in office," McCain began, making his way to pork barrel spending. "Across this country this is the agenda I have set before my fellow prisoners and the same standards of clarity and candor must now be applied to my opponent."
Presumably McCain meant to say 'Americans' not "prisoners," but he didn't catch his mistake.

this is a dog whistle to the evangelical base - we are all prisoners of our mortal bodies until our souls are saved and taken to heaven... either that or until McCain's opponent, aka "that one", is held to the same standards of clarity and candor.

It's either a proper grandad gaffe, or he was referring to Americans being prisoners of some abstract concept. Probably a gaffe.

How about giving us more of the speech so we can be sure you're not taking this thing out of context. How do I know its not a metaphor?

http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/10/08/1517943.aspxhonestly its not taken out of context, its a slip of the tongue and nothing wrong with that....it just happens to be an ironic one.
