The 11 dumbest things Sarah Palin has said so far

Image
BuddyP
1. The news makes me sad ... so I don't watch It

Sarah Palin at a North Carolina fundraiser:

At those times on the campaign trail when sometimes it's easy to get a little bit discouraged, when, you know, when you happen to turn on the news when your campaign staffers will let you turn on the news ... Usually they're like "Oh my gosh, don't watch. You're going to, you know, you're going to get depressed."

Maybe her handlers could put on a puppet show instead -- something fun that allows Palin to maintain her cheery optimism in the face of overwhelming evidence that the McCain campaign has imploded. There was once another politician similarly unconcerned with current events and the news: George W. Bush. That went well.

2. The people don't elect US presidents, God does

Upon being asked by James Dobson if the McCain ticket's precipitous slide in the polls gets her down:

... [it] strengthens my faith, because I'm going to know, at the end of the day, putting this in God's hands, that the right thing for America will be done at the end of the day on Nov. 4. So I'm not discouraged at all.

... and I can feel it too, Dr. Dobson. I can feel the power of prayer, and that strength that is provided through our prayer warriors across this nation.

Ah yes, the always helpful "prayer warriors," whose appeals to the Almighty actually count for more than the average American citizen's vote. Apparently the next president of the United States will be handpicked by God.

3. Palin believes in "divided" states of America

At a fundraiser:

We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hardworking, very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation.

Palin later apologized for the statement. But her backpedaling shouldn't get her off the hook for putting forth a deeply divisive vision of America. How would conservatives have reacted if, in an attempt to pander to uber-liberals, Obama said "I love visiting the parts of the country where people aren't close-minded assholes"? Probably not well.

4. The Vice President is supreme boss of the Senate

Here's what Palin said when Brandon, an elementary school student, asked: "What does the vice president do?"

That's something that Piper would ask me! ... They're in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom.

To be fair, Palin had no idea what the VP does the last time the issue came up, so this is almost an improvement. Except that saying the vice president (who is only nominally head of the U.S. Senate) makes policy changes through Senate legislation reveals an embarrassing ignorance of our government's system of checks and balances. Also, it's a bit disconcerting to hear someone running for VP endow that office with God-like powers over a separate branch of government.

5. Delusional response to Troopergate

"Well, I'm very, very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing ... any hint of any kind of unethical activity there," said Sarah Palin last Sunday, soon after she was found to have engaged in wrongdoing and unethical activity in the "Troopergate" investigation. Again, a propensity for denial and lies, a deep aversion to reality -- not the best ways to signal your commitment to "change" from "politics as usual."

    • My god, all of you people talking about how bad America will look with Palin in the Office? Just how do we look now with Bush?

Bush has been a joke since before he took office for the first time, and yet people voted him in. TWICE!

You are afraid of losing jobs, failing economy, and the US looking like a joke? Look around, people, it's already like that, has been for several years now, and it doesn't matter who gets in office, because it'll take several years for anything to improve.

If McCain and Palin are elected, today's situation will feel like the good old days in comparison, rather like what it was like for Iraqis under Saddam Hussein - they thought it couldn't ever be worse, today they all say that life was so much better under Saddam Hussein.

America used to have a "high standing" in the world community, and we used to be very well respected by the rest of the world. And then G. W. Bush came along. He has done more to create ill will and bad relations with the rest of the world than any other president in history. Now everyone hates the USA because of him. Its almost like he went out of his way to piss everyone off. And now that hes made a real mess of things he just dumps 8 years of crap in the lap of the next president, and says "fix it if you can."

"First of all, who cares what the world thinks." All decent Americans who are aware of the fact that America is not a planet separate from earth. * "The USA has done way more good in our history than any other." No it hasn't, quite the contrary, it has done more harm in the whole of history than any other country has. * "We are still the greatist nation on earth." Totally delusional nonsense. * "The rest of the world has the rest of the world in mind, not America." It has not only the rest of the world in mind, but it also has America in mind - America is part of the world too, in case you didn't know, and the rest of the world is very concerned about the damage and destruction that America is inflicting upon itself, as well as the damage and destruction it is inflicting on the rest of the world."

First of all, what I wrote is absolutely correct.

Secondly, if I were anti-America, I'd be rooting for McCain and Palin.

Thirdly, I am perfectly sane and lucid - two qualities with which you have obviously never been blessed.

Fourthly, if truth and facts be filth, so be it.

Lastly - get a life, child.

"Gaffes are one thing, stupidity and ignorance as in the case of Palin are another. The former are harmless, the latter are particularly dangerous."

Can you honestly say that you do not have a bias and that that bias has not clouded your judgement and opinion about a candidate?

Just to let you know, I will defend Obama as well on posts like these when people make dumb statements.

AGAIN...all candidates say and do stupid things.

I support the right of all candidates, even those that I disagree with. Even if they say dumb things....

"Palin has not only said 10 stupid things - she's provided rich content for an entire website"
Find any figure in political history that has not said things that was stupid or taken out of context....I dare you..
"Imagine for one moment Palin as president and the laughing stock the US would become worldwide. Don't believe me? Read any newspaper outside the US for a taste of how far we would drop in the eyes of the world."
First of all, who cares what the world thinks. The USA has done way more good in our history than any other. That is not to say that that we have not made mistakes because we have had our share. We are still the greatist nation on earth.
"The world has already figured out Obama is the right choice. I know we like to ignore the rest of the world - but this time they are right."
Thank god that the world cannot vote in our elections.
YOU SHOULD BE WORRIED THAT THE REST OF THE WORLD WANTS OBAMA. The rest of the world has the rest of the world in mind, not America.

I'm a proud, passionate American and am tired of having leaders that make us look like fools in the world.

    • can you get brain worms from eating too much moose?

      Seriously now

That troopergate response was not olny dumb it was blatantly dishonest. This countries suffered through 8 years having a President whos greatest asset might have been his ability to lie with a straight face. Must we elect another person for this high public office suffering from the same problem? One more thing, Palin is supposedly very religious. Isn't one of the Ten commandment Thou shall not lie!!

    • I love reading a post where someone slams the "one sidedness" of current and then posts an article from Newmax.com to support his/her point. NewMax is more biased than FoxNews. It just goes to show that the political right in this country has lost the ability to recognize their own hypocrisy. Which might help explain the terrible position they find themselves in.

    • McCAIN IS HENPECKED
This isn't going to stop. This woman can ruin the country and trash the world of she gets into office. McCain can barely attack a small flight of stairs, as I saw on one news clip. His age is a definite concern. HE IS ALREADY HENPECKED. And she is just the type to stand over him and throw him under the campaign bus. Notice her behavior on their recent joint interview.
I just heard on CNN that 27,000 jobs were lost this week. They predict that MILLIONS of jobs will be lost in the near future.
People voting for the McCain Palin ticket are Just Plain Failin' the country

    • John's right...Biden has his fair share of gaffes. The difference for me is that Biden is clearly a very smart man who sometimes says stupid things. Palin sometimes says stupid things, but none of us can know whether she is a smart woman or not. She simply hasn't been required to do much more than read a teleprompter or recite some canned answers in pre-taped interviews. Maybe she's brilliant. Maybe she's not. We don't know because the McCain camp didn't trust her enough to allow her to prove herself to the American people. That leaves me with one of two conclusions. One, the campaign knows her best and have determined correctly that she doesn't have the chops to handle a true press conference or an actual interview show like Meet the Press. Or she does have the chops, but McCain doesn't care enough about her or the voters to let her prove it. Either way...it doesn't speak well for McCain or the people running his campaign.

Vierotchka raises an excellent point. Gaffes are just momentary mistakes. Palin's errors in judgment have been consistent throughout her involvement in this campaign. And someone as consistently wrong as Palin, as Vierotchka points out, is "particularly dangerous". Nice comment.

Her support to Alaskan Independence Party shows that she is unpatriotic and fake with cessationist ideology. Not to mention her stupidity. I could say more,,,,, but you know the rest............... Adios

    • Sarah Palin has accomplished very much in her life so far, she is intelligent, very successful, brave & will be an active, excellent Vice President. I think she is a breath of fresh honest air that our country needs. Sarah, Sarah, Sarah!
Also, John McCain will be a great President & he isn't a crook and a darn good patriot! He's a very intelligent man & isn't afraid to stand up for what is right for this country. There are alot of cowards out there but John & Sarah aren't one of them.

    • The only positive I can see coming from the Palin nomination is that it might gauge some progress of American society. 8 years ago, a certain segment of our population very well may have ignored the obvious detriments and supported her anyway. Maybe it's our current dire circumstances, as opposed to the jovial state of American affairs in 2000, that has influenced those people. I'd like to think there's been some growth.

And you know, even today, Todd and I are looking at what’s going on in the stock market, the relatively low number of investments that we have, looking at the hit that we’re taking, probably 20,000 dollars last week in his 401K plan that was hit. I’m thinking, ‘Geez, the rest of America, they’re facing the exact same thing that we are. We understand what the problems are."

Don't you just get the sense that she really understands what "joe sixpack" is going through? Good freakin grief lady. Go peddle your load of crap elsewhere.
