I don't see what Obama has done to eliminate free speech. You appear to have jumped to a conclusion there. Obama apparently didn't have anything to do with whether or not people were prosecuted. In fact, in California, no one was arrested for the effigy, but in Kentucky, they were. That speaks more about the politics of the states than Obama or Palin. Its speaks in particular to the history of that state in *publicly hanging black men*
I have to mention, doesn't Kentucky have the creationist history museum?

ryanscott2,
It's all that demonic Obama's doing.
His 'Invisible Hand' somehow reaches through the ether and mass-hypnotizes the innocent souls of Kentucky law enforcement to make em do untold wickedness to their hapless kinfolk and luckless bystanders.
And if you believe that - and many do - you won't have a bit of trouble swallowing another few years of bailing out banks and getting nothing back from the effort.
Cause owning what you buy - that's not property rights, that's socialism!
And so on, and so forth...

Ryan Scott: Sarah does not scare me as much as the limits on free speech Obama has planned.
For instance Hate Speech. Obama has used hate speech to stop his critics. This has been the most sensored Presidential Campaign.
Hate Speech is a way around the first admendment. The next step is to make Hate Speech away to imprison people who disagree.
Like the case in Kentucky at a college where supports of Obama hung an effigy of Sarah. So supporters of Sarah hung an effigy of Obama. The supporters of Sarah were arrested.
This is where hate speech is taking us.
Obama wants conservative talk radio of the air, through the "fairness doctrine". Obama silences what he does not want to hear.
Obama is threating our free speech.

yes its sad that humor is one of the few ways the media calls out politicians with their lies and stupidity etc etc...
Don't underestimate ridicule as a force for change, though. It's critical. It takes all the power away from a public figure. That's why satire and parody are protected forms of speech and should remain that way.
Palin claiming her first amendment rights are being violated by the media criticizing her should scare you to death. Not only does she have it completely backwards, but you should really worry about what she'll do to YOUR rights if she ever gets into high office.
Your blog where you criticize her policies? Get ready to be the target of illegal domestic wiretapping. Next thing you know you'll be in Guatanamo. You think I'm joking? Look at what's happened to your rights under the Patriot Act. We've got warrentless wiretapping of the American public. We've got torture of prisoners who haven't been officially charged with anything. It's not just the economy thats in trouble, folks. Its the rapid and steady erosion of all of your rights. It'll be easy to take the rest of your stuff, if you have any left, once you are no longer a truly free citizen.

Good points.
You left one item out which people might like to know..
Those who have read Russian author and Nobel Prize winner Alexsandr Solzhenitsyn know why he was hauled out of a gunnery position at the front lines and instead sent to a Siberian prison camp.
Between battles and after he was decorated for bravery he wrote a brief letter to a friend also at the front. The letter included a joke about Josip Stalin.
That was enough to forget the heroism, the medal, the citiations for excellent conduct, forget the war and put him in jail for a "tenner."
He was arrested by the same guy who presented him with the medal. At the front.

Tina Fey just type casted herself. The one good thing is that she will have a long career doing Sarah, because Sarah is going to be around for a long time.

Tina Fey is a writer, actress, and producer.
5 Emmys including a Best Actress, a Outstanding Writing in a Variety Series(was the head writer for SNL), and Outstanding Comedy Series(for the show she created- 30 Rock)....
Doesn't sound like type casting to me. She can do whatever she wants, but the art she's done a great job at most recently is the Sarah Palin impersonation.
Right now her main thing is 30 Rock, not a sketch character on SNL. So I guess the point I'm making is that she's NOT setting herself up for a short-lived career by making people laugh with the Palin sketches.

This is just dumb!
I only see references to Fey's SNL skits in online media/social networks -- offline I'm certainly not quoting her at dinner parties, or even bringing her up in political conversations.

Okay, Tina Fey has had ONE semi-good satirical act, in no way should she be even considered for the non-existent Queen of Satire title.
I know I may come off a little strong, sorry, I just don't find her very funny.

Has Sarah has been the best thing for her career?
I really stop and wonder.. I am sure lots enjoy her satire on Sarah, and I enjoy good satire as well, but Tina ran it into the ground.
I really like her, I hope she will find several more interesting subjects to do satire about. Tina has alot of talent, hope she remembers that. That's where she shines.

She's only not funny, if you don't not have no sense of humor.
you betcha get back to ya read all the papers and books to be sure to see Russia from my kitchen window and know that this is not time to be experimenting with socialism when the free market... well isn't doing so great but we have a great country, I mean the real part, not the part where the fake people live like cities and big towns... nosiree we want to be sure that every real American gets to vote and be sure that voter fraud is not committed on any of our supporters, you know the real Americans and I'm committed to the policies of Senator McCain, except the ones that I don't agree with, that's why we're a united front because we're both mavericks who don't listen to things like polls or opinions or people like us and my executive experience makes me qualified to run this country even thought I don't know what the job I'm running for really does and I don't answer questions I don't like, because I don't want to label myself, except when I really need to to get my point across that I'm nothing like what you've seen in the last eight years, I only abuse MY power when it involves FAMILY and the report said I didn't abuse the power of the position I was in... okay it did but if I tell you it didn't then let's be honest, who are you going to believe, a report from some backwater prosecutor of the person who has a viable opportunity to be the next president of the United States of America.
I can field dress a moose for jeebers sakes.
Good luck America... I'm pulling for ya.

when I first heard people talking about Sarah I thought they were referring to TV reruns of "The Real McCoys."
Then I heard her speak.
Compared to Sarah, Tina is bi-lingual!

It's a sad place we've come to when our political commentary of an unbiased nature stems from comedy rather than from serious discourse.
Still, does Fey convey any real message? Sarah Palin is, on her own, an amazing ball of confusion and personal attack rhetoric. Consider that Fey quotes Palin word for word, while the audience laughs. While Fey is very talented and funny, I think in this particular case she was just in the right place at the right time.

Excellent point!
Had Sarah Palin not appeared at the horizon SNL was already sinking in the ratings and the comedic genius of Tina fey was elsewhere - being brilliant all by herself.
Lorne Michaels should kiss Sarah Palin's tundra ready Lotus Feet for bringing back Tina Fey, thus skyrocketing the SNL ratings, and making millions who had forgotten the show, tune in with rapt anticipation.
Viva Tina Fey! They should make her a shrine.
