How To Start A Religion

AtkinsonGemma
With church attendance dropping and religion increasingly being associated with extremism from the white house to Leeds mosques, young british adults no longer find religion a relevant part of their lives. In this short film Stephen Harvey decides to change all this by creating a brand new religion in consultation with the hundreds of young people to show that although we're secular, we are definitely a spiritual generation. Can he get a congregation big enough to make an anglican vicar blush in just a month?

    • I hope that we all understand that there will be a large number of truly good, wholesome, loving, caring individuals in hell. Why? Because they refused to acknowledge God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit as the one and only Creator and Savior.

Quick thought...... why would you worship Mary (the mother of Jesus) if even she acknowledged Jesus Christ (her son) as her Savior.

Anyway, I don't encourage anyone to believe what I believe, except for believing the truth in Gods word.

The old religion(s) is not the problem. New religion(s) is not the solution. We have to get back to the source. Think about how much has been compromised since the time of Jesus.

For example. I dare you to research the history of marriage. Now, read the book of Genesis. Now consider the current state of marrigae worldwide. We have deviated so far from its intended purpose and instructions from the one who Created the first marriage. Consider the ever increasing divorce rates, even up to now with considering same sex marriage "marriage". How can we consider the term marriage and not adhere to its original purpose and instructions of how to function in a marriage?

One word. Compromise. We have compromised on everything that God has created an intended for us with our minds and feelings. We live in a world where our very own progress as a society is based on convenience. How convenient that you try and "Re-Create" anything to make you feel however you wish to feel. Research the word "existentialism". Don't be afraid, it's just a word, right. Tell me what it means to you. I'll end my rambling with this.

I believe that no matter how intelligent we are, or become, we will only be able to "physically" experience what our minds can conjure up.

In consideration for science, please respond with answers to these questions.

      1. What existed prior to the "big bang" occurence? What was it's "source"?

      2. Does the galaxy have an ending?

      3. Is it humanly possible to build a space travel vehicle to get us to the end of the galaxy?

      4. What's on the other side of the end of the galaxy?

      5. If it doesn't end, meaning it goes on for "eternity", what created it?

    • I wouldn't follow a religion that had the symbol for heterosexual as a logo.

It is a great idea that I have thought of before. Wheat should be extracted from the chaff of standard religions.

    • Try Fictionology. Its a new and growing religion. You pick any character from fiction and make them your deity. You make your own rules, set the service, prayers whatever you want. I choose to go dual with Rocky and Bullwinkle. Our only holiday is Arbor Day when we plant a tree and sing songs about Johnny Appleseed, have a picnic then when the festival is all over, we clean up our mess. We live by the slogan Green is Better.

    • Good character, funny, worked hard for the camera. Should perhaps have tried his luck at Speaker's Corner. Nice shooting, creative editing. Well done. But as for the religion itself...? No chance. All you need is yoga. Mx

    • I think this type of religion makes sense and I'm disappointed it didn't hit off more. Just be a good person. Believe in yourself. Giving yourself up to another thing to control what you do isn't self-fulfilling.

This religion should get a book...like the Bible or Qu'ran. It could be called "the Book of Me." All about the self: the actions we make, our impact on others and the world, and maybe an insight to the afterlife. The afterlife can be whatever we want. :)

    • Our view of reality and consciousness is changing so much that we must build a new spiritual outlook to cope with the new ideas.

This new religion will be built with the successful parts of those that came before it though. Fellowship and a sense of belonging are the key to what so many really get from the Christian Church. A new religion will have to care for its members the way the old ones have.

It will use ceremonies to formalize its truths, but the truths themselves will be different. Prayer can still be a communication with God but it will not be a time of 'Man tells God what Man wants and what God is to do' . It will be a time of listening for the sublime.

It will have music and poetry with themes like love and religious norm reinforcement. It will teach 'love your neighbor'. It will teach 'love the truth' but it will not honor human sacrifice or make the magic leap that the declarations of one man are the word of God. Especially, when scholarship clearly and easily shows that the words were lifted from other men in other times.

It will be a faith of seekers and creators for centuries. Christianity was in that mode for hundreds of years. Our new faith has huge discoveries such as alternate life forms, artificial live, genetics, consciousness as an emerging property, a property that is created by information being imposed on material that it has to accommodate..

For example. If the directions to arrange material in certain patterns led to the creation of a conscious individual, what would that mean for religion. I propose that the information exists as long as it is inscribed somewhere. When it is inscribed on material in just the the correct pattern. are prior incarnations of that pattern exactly created again.

If the Blue Brain Project causes a consciousness to emerge, can it repeat the creation of that consciousness? Is the information, the directions for the proper arrangement of material to create consciousness, the soul.

We need a new religion because the God that satisfied bronze age man just isn't big enough to be the supreme presence in the multiverse, A God that defines creation in terms of units of time, days, to a generation that knows that without matter there is no time at all has a major rewrite to his lesson plan coming when enough people catch on to what science is finding out.

The new religion will make sense of science's world. It will meet the needs of the new age. It may have the old faith labels but the old practitioners would hardly recognize the content of the building from the sign on the door.

Works for me. As long as we build the precepts along working with human behavior, truth, reason, reward, and consequence versus whatever the hell they have going on at the moment.

The current local community infrastructure of the church network could be this country's saving grace, but only if they reform the nonsensical ancient storyline to something that everyone can relate to in everyday reality.

I've been trying to piece together the idea my entire life, but to be accurate, it will require a Google-type power of analyzing data. To get to the core programming that might allow us to predict and design human behavior to it's optimal state shouldn't be that hard, the only hard part is overcoming centuries old entrenched human sheep-like stupidity.

      God help us.

I often feel this all makes perfect sense to me, but yet to...ummm..."less analytical" humans, how in God's name do you get them to understand they've been lied to their entire lives...but for an intended good reason?

But yet the mechanism has done far too much to protect and ignore blanket mass psychosis and highly-questionable extremes.

Hey, we all like goals, but sometimes then can be taken too far. I say create a statistic and percentage-based system. The catch is, everyone has to tell the truth about what they're doing, because the technological God of society is now watching out of focus, but yet, it has the power to rewind time instantly and catch unjust behavior in action.

And that's just me talking about a surveillance camera.

Pardon the melodrama, I got on my mock soap box there for a minute and thought I had to sound "epic".

      (facepalm.)

Well, like I said, my new religion is an open source project, so I just listen to whichever ideas make sense, and question the ones that don't.

Actually I've already got the toughest "creative" part worked out with hidden symbolism and meaning, now all I have to do is decide where to draw the lines of exactly what the hell it stands for.

      Hmmm....brilliant idea!

      The Church of Honesty

      Ain't than an oxymoron?

      But ain't ain't a word, so I got you on a technicality.

Well, how about a church at least build on honesty or at least reason. I would have no problem accepting the tenants of many major religions as valid if only they erased the whole ancient fairytale backstory.

We could write and use a modern one much better.

Then again, life has taught me, what's good for me isn't necessarily good for others, so perhaps I should just allow people to believe whatever they want to as long as they aren't harming anyone?

Alright, fair enough. I'll give the individualist model a try.

      Whoa ho!

I just actually watched the video. The symbolism with the + symbol is eerie, since I had adopted that symbol as the one for my religion to redefine the cross into simply a positive logo.

Wow. This guy would probably really get a kick out of what I've been writing for the past two years.

      Hmmm...

    • Been there, done that.

Mine is called Religion 1 (much symbolism there), but it is more of a collaborative work in progress based on science, human behavior, and technology....with possibly mind-blowing entertainment thrown in later on just for effect.
