Somehow, I just can't imagine the Simpsons as representing Mr & Mrs Average Americans. They strike me as more of Joe 6-pack and family, who are barely able find their way out of town...and whose idea of high fashion might possible apex at Target. BWAHAHAHAHAHA

Great point, I think this idea would had been more relatable if the they were modeling GAP clothing, but high fashion is where innovative ideas sprout from. Mass Industry is left twiddling their thumbs wishing they would have had the idea first. Though on another level, this ad is perfect in portraying Mr & Mrs Average American dreaming big, because isn't that what Americans do best--Dream big?

Oh, and one more thing--Maggie in a handbag? I don't get it. Do French parents carry around their babies as if they were dogs(pets)? I know Paris made it very fashionable to haul around Yorkshire in her Louis Vuitton. What a second . . . am I missing the metaphor?
Maybe because I've never been in Paris before, oh no not like that you perv.
-Do you believe the illustrator intended an implicit metaphor? Your thoughts? - 2 years ago

Wow, interesting concept. Animating/illustrating high fashion designer garments would not have worked with any other models then the Simpsons. This creative idea works because the Simpsons are a part of our 21st century culture, for better or worst most Americans can relate. I absolutely love it though ;) Thanks for the post.
