I personally believe that Alcohol is the worst of the Social drugs available over counter. Teens start young by drinking beers just to be "tough" and hard liquor is just a step behind. Many parents are not paying attention and before they know they have to go to the morgue to identify their teen after they wrapped their car around a tree. Any drug needs to come with warning labels and education. Again, parents and teachers need to be responsible.

The scary part is that most alcoholics are in denial. They refuse to see the drinking as a disease. All the support groups in the world are not going to help as long as the denial is that strong. I know of many families that attend Anon meetings Al-Anon etc. but the person that is the cause is not. That is the worst part of this disease, it affects everybody around you.

My mother was an alcoholic for 30+ years, refused help and did not want to stop. She ended up falling down the stairs in our house and broke her neck. I lived with that growing up, every day until I moved out when I was 19. Trust me alcohol can be evil and it left me with scars bigger then Brooklyn bridge.

To me alcohol is far more dangerous to anybodies health it can kill instantly. I have seen the damage alcohol does to familes. Wife abuse, child abuse, drunk driving and so much misery that leaves people with scars for a lifetime.

I am a smoker and I cant tell you how upsetting it is for me to go to Atlantic City Casino's .. I have a cigg, and somebody with a drink in his/her hand (already tipsy) starts waving their hand and dry coughing to point out that the smoke is bothering them. Some even tell me how dangerous the smoking is. Then I see the drunks rumble around in the casino, making bad bets, loosing money. One lady fell while on the escalator and yes, she was drunk. Maybe the ciggs will kill me over time, but alcohol can kill you in seconds depending on the situation. Talking about second hand ..what about the drunk drivers that kill innocent people .. should we wave our hand and dry cough at them ? Maybe they will go way if we do.

Alcohol is the accepted social drug. You can even buy that in supermarkets, get it at sporting events etc. It will take a lot of education to get the message out that alcohol is as harmful as smoking or doing recreational drugs. Both my parents where alcoholics and trust me I know what alcohol does to people and those that live with them.

Notice how they dont do the campaigns anymore. Now it's smoking. They dont really care that much about second hand alcoholism as much as second hand smoke. Fact that the second hand alcoholism can kill you in 2 seconds flat isn't that important. Smoking is the new enemy.

Boy that ruined the party in less then 30 seconds. Alcoholism is a serious disease and often requires a support system to the help the alcoholic. There are currently no "Cures" for addictions such as Alcohol or Drugs. Peer to Peer groups such A.A. and other "Anonymous Groups" offer free support. Medical help such as Detox can be found in any community hospital.
