POPE Benedict last night claimed that placing a bible over an erect penis before intercourse is the only guaranteed way to prevent the spread of Aids.

    • My gut says that the Pope would say to obtain from anything except monogamy within marriage, and within that covenant there should be a safe environment for the sacred act of sex.

As far as going into other sexual rituals, I seriously doubt the Pope had anything more to say.

    • oh dear, well here I go .. I know a book will help with unwanted sex .. because I used to put a novel (any novel) over ME when my X husband used to come to bed, he was stupid enough to think that I was reading, so he left me alone .. case and point ;)

    • Does he mean holding it over it, or sort of balancing it on?

Or he could mean opening the Bible, putting your erect penises inside, then closing it again, but that somehow doesn't sound like the kind of thing he'd be in favour of.

    • The thing about his speech (the real one) that really pissed me off was that he said "spirituality" would be better for aids than condoms...

Aids or not.. condoms are Way better for sex anyway.. Abstinence is a joke.. and a whole bunch of Africans are not that well educated (and you could argue that im being stereotypical but look at the people gangraping lesbians to "cure them") and this asshole relegious icon.. says things that go against Things programmed into you.. Like sex .. that confuses people and leads to bad choices..

    • Totally satire -

at the end of the "article":

Meanwhile the Vatican has issued this year's list of approved non-penetrative carnal techniques including pearl necklaces, light genital branding and something called 'Dutch steamboating'.

But I LOVE that we are trying to discount the Pope! What a joke the pope is nowadays...what a throwback.

Read the entire article. He is encouraging a change in attitudes toward casual sex. He thinks that lax attitudes toward sex leads to more exposure to AIDS. In Africa the cost of a condom may prevent even the most careful from buying one.

    • Ahhh the bible the only obvious birthcontrol.

I dont know why people think condoms would work.

I hate organized religion for this exact reason, the only people on earth that come up with absolutely insanely retarded answers for all the worlds problems. I hope people have more sense than to believe this archaic mystic crap.

    • While this particular article is a satire, the fact of the matter is the pope DID say crazy things regarding AIDS, religion and condoms. It's not all bullshit.

"Pope Benedict XVI really did say that AIDS is a "drama that cannot be overcome through the distribution of condoms, which on the contrary increase the problem."

    • It's satire. How many of you actually read the article? And how many actually understood that it was a joke? Obviously not many...

Don't get all frothy without fully researching a "news story". This is the FUCKING INTERNET FOR FUCK'S SAKE. Yes, the Catholic Church is against condoms. I'm pretty sure they're not advocating healing an incurable disease with a book. Unless the book's pages are made of uranium. And in that case, your AIDS, along with the rest of your corporal self, is dead.

    • Globally speaking, AIDS is a huge public health concern. And I see the pope is trying to use his faith to help those that are in need.

But saying that condoms can increase the incident of AIDS cases definitely does not help the situation. Education programs that teach about abstinence or safe sex practices is what is proven to prevent the increase in AIDS cases.

    • fountaingoats:

But there are some aspects to this story that are true; in the speech he gave he claims that AIDS needs to be fought with "spirituality" and that condoms do not prevent AIDS, in fact the opposite! He may not have said "put a bible over your penis" but he is implying that religion, not science, is the answer.

Indeed, he said condoms don't stop the spread of AIDS and actually contribute to it. Ugh. He just didn't actually say to put a Bible over your penis.

I guess parody only works when it's too outlandish to be true, which is why this one failed.

I'm looking forward to the day when the ridiculous blathering of the Pope is no longer news worthy. No matter how stupid it may be.

    • I am not a big fan of the Catholic church. However, since I have lived in Africa for almost 4 years now I can understand his points. He is encouraging celibacy, or faithfulness to one partner. I will not castigate my current home country, however, it should be considered that social norms are not consistent throughout the world. Most African cultures celebrate the birth of many children for a family. Men are also accepted to have mistresses or multiple wives. Condoms are not a traditional part of their culture, but multiple partners are. This is a recipe for the spread of AIDS throughout the continent.

I am dying to know what did 4 years in Africa show you that condoms are bad, condoms are bad for Africa, or what?

and while I'm at it can you understand how people can look @ the various revamps(of Old-New-Islam prophecies) and call them false prophecies?

condom is not a Tradition it's a Science

i would disagree and say its not dangerous for him to say what he did...because he has said alot of B******* in his time and we still ok but what is dangerous is that people still have not become aware of this mans intent.I truly dont mean to sound like a young fool but when you guys look in his eyes you cant tell me you see a messenger of god..i'm a very sensitive being and whenever i look at him i see darkness...A messenger of god would be intelligent enough to relay the messages that the world needs to hear...i'm not a religious man but i am a spiritual one and i wouldn't follow this guy if satan himself came to overthrow me...On top of that I dislike money and he just so happens to be head of the wealthiest organization in the world....if he was a messenger of god why does he horde all of the church money? The vatican has enough funds to feed and clothe all 6.6 billion folks existing in this eternal now..blah i'm done sry

If you know history you can detail the fact that the church has consistently been on the wrong side of major social ethical issues! The churches stance on birth control is yet another betrayal of the earth and its peoples!

    • slarabee:

      I agree with you slarabee

kuklamania, telling people 'just say no' to sex, rather than providing true information about how to prevent AIDS is detrimental. Our natural instinct is to want to have sex. People are going to do it. No ancient superstition is going to stop this from happening and is therefore not the answer. If people are going to be having sex (they are), they should be told the truth that condoms HELP prevent AIDS. Abstinence may be the only guaranteed way, but if you think people are going to abstain, you are fooling yourself.

When attempting to intelligently fight the spread of disease, which is better:

      1. The Pope and his religion's nonsensical, irrational, and false superstitions.

      2. Science, facts, and reason.

you misunderstood what i said noxidereus. i was simply pointing out that what the pope said was a metaphor. I never said dont tell anyone about the truths about sex.. sex is obvious and always will be. He's just doing what he think's will help, through his religion, considering he's the pope and all. I wouldn't expect him to say anything else. everything you are saying is better left off being said by parents and health teachers, not the pope.

I think that if the pope cares more about his followers than he does his reputation, he'll put scientific safety ahead of promoting ethics in the middle of a crisis.

And Kuklamania, if preaching about an epidemic is how the pope thinks he can help, then i'm afraid the great spiritual leader should consider at least wearing a red ribbon.
AIDS is realer than god, and he should guide his people to safe decisions rather than conscience-shattering choices that pit human health against religious faith.
