I know you think you heard what you know I thought I said...

Top ten most famous lines you've never actually heard in the iconic movies or shows they came from. Despite the numerous times you heard it Humfrey Bogart never said, "play it again Sam" in the movie Casablanca. Moreover, James Cagney never called anyone "you dirty rat" and Clint Eastwood never ask anyone "Do you feel lucky punk" in any of the Dirty Harry flicks. Just like the game "telephone" we all learned as children most of the famous lines we think we know have been distorted as they are relayed from one person to another.

    • who cares if people screw up a word or two? people are so weird- why would you post this? it reminds me of 12 year olds arguing over how to say something. you get the gist- why nitpick?

    • Awesome, but I'm still saying "Luke, I Am your father"

but I have to say they got one wrong. They said "Frankly, Scarlett, I dont give a damn" -- the correct quote is "frankly my dear, I dont give a damn" but thats the quote I always hear. I rarely hear Scarlett instead of my dear.

cool.. "frankly my dear, i dont give a damn" is also used by 2pac in poetic justice (talking to janet jackson). actually, 2pac may not have said damn..may have dropped the F bomb.. can anyone verify this?

    • THe guy in the Darth Vader costume actually said, "No, Obi-Wan killed your father." Only Lucas and a select few knew what would be said in theatres. Lucas told Mark Hamill a minute or two before the beginning of the scene.

    • "which one is it?"

"It's the one that says Bad Motherfucker on it."

Pulp fiction had a whole plethora of quotable lines but I don't see them on the list... just not as iconic yet.

    • The quotes that most people use are from other movies parodying these classics. They're not necessarily misquoted but adapted to fit a certain scenario without loosing the similarity to the original line.

    • hmm. that article said "if you build it, they will come." is a misquote from 'field of dreams'. and the link they provide doesnt contain that quote either. but that line is in the movie, and is repeated several times. costner hears this voice over the cornfields before he builds the baseball field.

    • Hmmm I think that these quotes are most often not misquoted but intentionally changed so that anyone can use them, or to make them more easier to use in situations. Either way, good post =)

    • How funny! I'm still gonna go around saying "Luke, I am your father" though... it does have more impact than the original line.

    • hey eldamon,

this is a great submission, but i think the title is a little too confusing for featuring. i've switched it up, but here is your original title:

"I know you think you heard what you know I thought I said..."

      thanks,
      mario

Oh man, where's the fun in keeping it simple. I like Current because a good number of peeps can use a few more of their brain cells than most. The title was meant to be a bit confusing but by the same token I understand the tenants of basic journalism so I see why you changed the title. Perhaps a bit more creativity could be employed the next time you change my stuff?

      Thanks for featuring my submissions!
