lol, just a vent - Thanks!
I travel with my disabled sister (freak illness attacked when she was young) on the bus and people (including the drivers sometimes) only think about themselves. I have actually had to yell at a able-bodied person to move for her or to stop harassing her. I really don't have a lot of faith in humanity when I see this sort of thing. :P - 2 years ago

i dont have to be sitting in a "designated seat" just to get up for someone holding a child/baby or who looks like they need it, but if noone is sitting in the designated areas, i'm not going to not sit there...

No one to blame but yourself. Are you kidding me? "Never noticed the stickers"?! No need to change the signage, just open your eyes. And now you know anyway.

Most of the signage and stickers are for safety therefor I would just think that those signs where also for safety.

Well and also it doesn't mean you can't set there, just give it up for disabled and elderly, like I said should be COMMON sense.

@allIknowis Very true. I automatically get up when I see someone who would need to. I just didn't know that *those* seats were reserved.
Those seats should be empty because some people who *need* to sit there won't speak up.

For safety? It's a dude in a wheelchair, what could it possibly mean other than handicap?

The buses in SF are pretty well marked and for the most part people will get up for an elderly or disabled person. I do often sit in them because I have a spine deformity that causes incredible back pain and a chronic foot injury, but I always get up for the disabled or an elderly person because they need it more than me.
Although once I was sitting in a disabled seat on a bus and an elderly man got on, I was about to get up when he started hitting me with his bag screaming at me to get up. Of course I did but he still continued to scream at me and call me names from his seat for the rest of the ride. The poor elderly woman next to him looked like she was about to have a heart attack. Before I got off I just looked him straight in the eye and said "you need to learn to have some respect for yourself and for others around you. Please control yourself when in public, sir."
And thats my disabled/elderly seats story!

guy actually SAID something.....
If he/she did actually SAY something, he/she would get an ass beating (in most major US cities).

"CY", you are correct. An ass beating would shortly commence. Unless, a Ninja Master is nearby to provide protection.

People don't care. Sign or no sign; they sit if no other seats are available. I hate when they get mad when people who really need the seat request that they move.

I guess that the guy in the photo above is mentally disabled...

No, he is just a rude gang banger, look at the tat's on his hand. Of course, even gangbangers can be retarded, or at least severely mentally challenged.
Or, he could also be the child of Ted Kacinsky (Unibomber), same clothes, same ignorant attitude.

You should move to Geneva, Switzerland. In the buses and trams, even when very crowded, whenever someone steps in with crutches or a cane, immediately someone will stand and give them their seat. Those who do it most often, fastest, and spontaneously are Africans and Moslems, both men and women.

It's similar in Canada too. You would get very appalled stares at the very least, or more often, someone will politely ask you to give up your seat, if you don't get up right away.

"V", for once I will agree with you. Africans will yield their seats to the elderly, infirm, or women with child. I know that the Muslims will also. However, do not expect this same courtesy in America! It is a rare commodity, usually dispensed outside of the U.S. Much to my regrets!

I agree too, you shouldn't need a sign to tell you what's right. Probably can't read anyway, so a sign is moot.

amazing really... although there are some spare seats in some of the photos.
I can't even sit in the "old or disabled" seats on the bus because I get too nervous that someone who looks old will get on and then I might offend them by asking them if they want the seat when actually they're only 40 but look knackered!
