Guinness World Records reaches new levels of FAIL

Image

Earlier this week FailBlog posted a screen-grab of one of the entries on Guinness detailing the “Most Individuals Killed In A Terrorist Act”, which included a link inviting viewers to “Break this record”. It was a classic case of Fail, likely caused by either a side-wide template that included the link or an editor who fell asleep at the wheel.

But rather than just simply fixing the issue, apologizing, and moving on, Guinness has decided to dig a nice, big hole for itself by threatening FailBlog with a lawsuit for featuring the Guinness World Records logo without authorization. This morning FailBlog posted a note to its site (appropriately titled ‘OMG U FAIL SO HARD’) with a screenshot of the threat, along with the site’s response.

///This response absolutely made my day. Definitely click through and read it, I laughed out loud for a while.

    • I sincerely hope that is the actual response they sent. The legal drone who complained was probably delighted with himself for spotting the original "infringement", making it all the more hilarious.

    • Do they also have 'most students killed in a high school shooting' too?

This is nuts, I had no idea Guinness World Records even did such serious things. Thought it was all weird an wacky - and the occasional 'death by pancake' type silliness

    • Have to say that is GOLD! WTF are the Guinness World Record (can I say that without infringing any laws?) people thinking, that is one giant rod they have stuck up their arse. They are saying we don't condone terrorism in fact we actively encourage people to better it, the next lunatics to carry out atrocities can be a record breaker, yeh! and by the way don't use our logo.

Maybe if they got wind of an event they could send Roy Castle and Sheryl Baker to cover it and offer encouragement, with an official adjudicator of course.

He's in deep freeze at Guiness Word Record HQ, they don't sound like the kind of company to let someone so important to the brand like Roy get away that easily.

    • "I am also resisting the urge to write this email in ALL CAPS."

This email is the most brilliant piece of web literature I've ever read. Fact.

    • This is one of the best laughs I have had all day! Some companies just don't understand all these newfangled tubes.
