"Family Guy" is the first animated show in 48 years to earn a best comedy nod

It's Emmy Award nomination day and as always, we're insanely frustrated by the quality programs that are snubbed, the old standbys that got chosen out of habit and the general fact that Emmy voters once again prove they're not in touch with true TV fans. But at least this year, there were more big surprises than perhaps ever before, both good and bad, starting with the nomination of "Family Guy" for best comedy series.

That's incredibly huge when you consider that it's the first time an animated series made the list in 48 years -- since "The Flintstones" was nominated back in 1961. And while creator Seth MacFarlane and his team are no doubt shouting "Yabba Dabba Do!" in joy today, we can only wonder how the folks at "The Simpsons" are taking the news. That show's been hailed by both critics and audiences as a true pop-culture phenomenon for 20 years, and yet the Emmys never bestowed it with recognition in the best comedy category. D'oh! Eat their shorts, academy members.

    • Ridiculous. This is a show with juvenile stories, Simpsons rip-offs, crappy voice-work and countless horrible pop-culture references in place of real writing.

Viva la Flight of the Conchords!!!

    • Lets make a Family Guy episode!!! Insert what you feel is funny in the parenthesis!

(character) woke up to see that (object) was flying all over the place. In some attempt to (Verb) this problem, every character except Quagmire go to see (random Transformer or Thundercat). On the way (not Peter) was intelligent and turned around. (Two characters) make some (adjective) sexual references, that only the two understand because they have done it to each other.
Soon (character) remembers the time that (sports team, probably from the AL east) came (verb)ing into (room of their house) and sang (Frank Sinatra song) because it is somehow relevant. Character who left the party earlier gets back to Quagmire's house, only to see him fucking a horse. (Transformer or Thundercat) turns out to not like the retards, so makes them turn around and live with the (object) flying around. They get back and a talking (zoo animal) has eaten the object. Black weatherman is objectified.

      Cool story bro.
