'Cloud ship' scheme to deflect the sun's rays is favourite to cut global warming

Selected quotes from article:

"Ships with giant funnels which travel the world's seas creating more clouds to deflect the sun's rays could help cut global warming, say scientists."

"The project, which is being worked on by rival US and UK scientists, would see 1,900 wind-powered ships ply the oceans sucking up seawater and spraying minuscule droplets of it out through tall funnels to create large white clouds. "

"These clouds, it is predicted, would reflect around one or two per cent of the sunlight that would otherwise warm the ocean, thereby cancelling out the greenhouse effect caused by Carbon Dioxide emissions"

Wow. These guys are geniuses!

But, how do you explain that water vapor will cool the earth, when scientists also say that water vapor contributes to global warming?
http://news.mongabay.com/2008/1117-water_vapor.html

The heat-amplifying effect of water vapor in the atmosphere could more than double the climate warming caused by increased carbon dioxide levels, report researchers using NASA data.

While is has long been known that water vapor is an important greenhouse gas, its contribution to global warming has been hotly debated. Now, according to NASA, Andrew Dessler and colleagues from Texas A&M University in College Station have calculated to heat-trapping capacity of water vapor.

"Everyone agrees that if you add carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, then warming will result," Dessler said. "So the real question is, how much warming?"

NASA says the impact can be determined by estimating the magnitude of water vapor feedback:
Increasing water vapor leads to warmer temperatures, which causes more water vapor to be absorbed into the air. Warming and water absorption increase in a spiraling cycle.

Water vapor feedback can also amplify the warming effect of other greenhouse gases, such that the warming brought about by increased carbon dioxide allows more water vapor to enter the atmosphere.

"The difference in an atmosphere with a strong water vapor feedback and one with a weak feedback is enormous," Dessler said.

COULD IT BE THAT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT THE HELL THEY ARE DOING?
COULD IT BE THAT ALL THIS TINKERING WITH CLIMATE COULD BACKFIRE?

    • why don't we cut down carbon emissions directly?
it would be easier and cheaper.
i think human beings are afraid to the change. i am not

    • Anything is possible, but this "idea" is highly improbable...
...Yet never underestimate the power of some bureaucratic governmental dimwits diverting capital resources to "explore" the feasibility of such a scheme!

hey, the article sure looked serious. I didn't detect a whiff of parody...

      so apparently they are serious.

      seriously deluded, in my mind.

but the second I read the article, I had a couple of synapses deep in a long lost memory in my head fire...'wasn't there some article about water vapor causing global warming?'...so I looked it up.

Yes, there it is. So, water vapor is a greenhouse gas, of course that contributes to global warming, but if it's released by "scientists" (you must say that with a sense of AWE in your voice) then the LIBERAL INTENT to COUNTER GLOBAL WARMING apparently counteracts the physics, and it suddenly is transformed into a COOLING agent.

Hmmm. It's kind of like shooting a bullet into the head of someone with brain cancer in order to cure the cancer.

"Because the patient did not die of cancer, therefore bullets cure cancer! "
