    • Dear Senator,

In the next month, the U.S. Senate will take on the important task of deciding between a cleaner, brighter future for [state] or the dirty energy policies of the past. As a constituent in [state], I am writing to urge your support for comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation this year that will create jobs and reduce the harmful pollution that threatens our planet.

Passage of clean energy and climate legislation is one of the most important things we can do to revitalize our economy and help solve the climate crisis. Putting a price on carbon will drive investment in clean energy technologies, creating millions of good-paying jobs. A recent report from the Center for American Progress finds that investing $150 billion a year in our clean energy economy can generate 1.7 million jobs across the U.S., including thousands in [state]. These are homegrown, American jobs for American workers, jobs that use the skills of today's labor force and that cannot be outsourced. As our national unemployment rate sits at more than 9 percent, we need these jobs now more than ever.

In addition, comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation will reduce our dependence on foreign oil that threatens our national security. Top-ranking admirals and generals have pointed to climate change as a grave threat to our national security, saying the first priority for the new administration should be fully integrating our energy security and climate change goals into national security and military planning.
By transitioning to a clean energy economy, America can stop sending billions of dollars to unstable, hostile regimes for their oil and start pumping that money back into our own economy. Passing climate legislation will allow us to invest in domestic energy sources, like wind, solar and geothermal -- reducing harmful greenhouse gas emissions and ensuring we leave behind a healthy, prosperous planet for future generations. Failure to act will continue to put [state]'s economy, our nation's economy, our national security and the health of our planet in jeopardy.

With true leadership in the Senate, we can pass comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation and begin the important transition to a clean energy economy -- addressing all of our most pressing problems at once: creating millions of new jobs, hastening our economic recovery, strengthening our national security and preserving our planet for future generations.

As my Senator, it's your leadership I turn to, and as your constituent, I strongly urge you to support comprehensive clean energy and climate legislation this year.

      Sincerely,
      [NAME]
      [CITY], [STATE] [ZIP]

Congratulations on the new internship Carolyn!!!

I wish you ALL the success in the world. When YOU are successful----it will mean success for everyone who lives in the USA and the world.

Please contact me about biofuels. After 100 years of cover-up, lies, and deceit about biofuels, I'd like to have the chance to set things straight.

What we desperately need right now is jobs for US workers. Big OIl is sending our money overseas to pay for a raw material that we are just going to burn.

This transfer of wealth from America to create a cash cow for a few wealthy elite is a root cause of the economic problems we face today.

Biofuels can reverse this. Not only that, we can have the energy we need, with almost no pollution, do the things we have always done, the way we have always done, in ways that are renewable and sustainable. And we can have economic and social benefits too.

We can do these things at very little expense, without tearing down everything and starting over, and we do not have to wait years for exotic and expensive technology. We can do everything we need to do with technology that we have had for many years----in some cases, a century or more.

Much of what you have been told in the press is completely bogus lies. Biofuels depend on putting food in your gas tank for instance. Did you know that we can make both ethanol and diesel fuel from waste wood and other plant waste matter? Even trash? We can, right now----and we have been able to for over 100 years. There are even more than one ways to do it. And these are not pie in the sky claims------it has been done before on a commercial scale.

Would you get excited if technology were available that could more than double the efficiency of gasoline engines. Technology that uses no expensive batteries or other untried, unproven methods? It is being done right now, and has been for many years. It isn't large SUVs that are the problem. It is large INEFFICIENT SUVs that are the problem. We can power the largest SUV with an engine the size of the smallest economy cars now on the market----and have power to spare. Using exactly the same manufacturing and parts we now use. This is not theoretical. It is being done already-----and has been for over 40 years.

Are you getting the idea that maybe we have been long and consistantly lied to that renewable energy is too expensive and would destroy everything we want to do, and the ways we want to do them? That we have to wait many years and spend billions of $$$ for research to find other ways of doing what needs to be done?

      We have been lied to.

    • And here we are a year later after Al Gore's 10 year 100 % renewable energy speech stlll waiting for an adequate bill that meets scientific standards for Co2/GHG emissions as the Arctic continues to experience record warming. Here we still sit allowing this administration to carry on as the previous one did regarding "clean" coal and kowtowing to them by approving mountaintop removal mines. I have come to the conclusion that passionate speeches no longer mean squat if it is so easy to acqueisce to the politics of the moment. You simply cannot state you are for "green jobs" and then continue to support a bill in Congress that will continue to subsidize dirty coal in any way, or vote for a scheme that will allow them free credits and the chance to abuse the system to keep polluting.

And again, just what is a "green job?" Will it now be working at a "clean coal" facility? Because EXXON states it is working on some sort of "biofuel" does that automatically categorize their employees as having "green" jobs? Appeasing administrations simply because they are the same party as you is also not standing up to the status quo when they are the status quo. Oil and coal companies are indeed spending billions to keep people ignorant of the truth and afraid of the change that is NECESSARY instead of revealing the true damage they are doing to the planet. This then isn't the time for nice subtle ads about someone living near a windmill. This is the time to be bombarding the airwaves with pictures of what mountaintop removal does to this planet. It is time to show satellite footage of the Arctic and tell people how it will effect their lives. It is time to expose the lies of these industries that pollute and degrade our health along with this planet with no remorse and MAKE THEM PAY. And it is time to demand the kind of climate bill from this Congress that this planet needs and we deserve in order to sustain this planet for our children, and that isn't the one we currently got. Are we up to the task? Well, if we support the climate bill as it is now just based on partisan politics, we have already proven we aren't.

    • BTW, what coal plant are you protesting first? Oh wait, you don't have time for that. Fluffing pillows and putting up curtains in a new "office" is so much more important. And of course, installing the phones to use to push a climate bill that is inadequate to address the planetary emergency we face. Again, do you know anything else?

    • i want a story not just a headline.
be that as it may, the only way to combat such a powerful enemy is not to play in their game. learn what is in the new energy market; then buy, use and promote these products.
use your gifts and start your own garage business building and selling your own energy ideas, you are as smart as anyone else. use your unique perspective and study, learn, invent and sell. patent laws are almost useless ( they don't inform or protect you) so ignore them. just buy or build the "better mouse trap" and don't let big energy play.

    • Well we already knew that. They need to get more vocal about this climate bill becoming stronger instead of being just another political arm of the current administration. Their ads are way too nice.

    • The energy bill itself has some problems of Denial. Good that they are not denying certain things but they still way to go to resolve our pollution problem. Even knowing it is incomplete, I am still supporting the Repoweramerica.org campaign with few reservations through! I wish you the best in your internship Carolyn!

Have gone from 0 to 60 in 5 seconds! Lots to do to save our Earth from Global Warming. This is where I need to be. I have watched what the past 8 years has inflicted on my family and community with horror; like watching a slow motion train wreck. I also enjoyed watching one of them fired from an Engineering job who just got the most exciting job of his life in Engineering Composites for clean energy!

I was a reject from the Bush Oil Economy but wanted and hopefully valued in our new Clean Energy Economy on the horizon.

My advice to others who are in fear is retool!
