Olbermann declares War on Fox News

Image
bansheewail
“Send me everything you can find about Glenn Beck,” screams the headline of a Daily Kos diary posting by MSNBC anchor Keith Olbermann.

The liberal pundit’s posting continued, “Find everything you can about [Fox News host] Glenn Beck, Stu Burguiere, and Roger Ailes.” Stu Burguiere is Beck’s producer; Roger Ailes is the president of Fox News.

Olbermann goes on to state that, on his prime-time news show Tuesday night, he will announce a hotline where viewers will be able to phone in tips about the controversial Beck and “his TV enablers” Burguiere and Ailes.

Olbermann’s declaration of war against Glenn Beck and the news network that hosts his show is a sign that the Van Jones controversy is not over simply because the White House’s green jobs adviser resigned over the weekend.

Olbermann himself admits that this is about Van Jones — and also about Beck’s own implied plan to continue his political campaign against White House staffers.

    • Can someone tell me if Olbermann is outraged by ACORN employees helping a pimp and a whore evade taxes and use public housing for a bordel?

Or was he just hoping to be a customer there?

Tax money for ho's. That's America under Obama

    • Keith O....is an idiot of the highest order.

He's show wouldn't exist if Fox was not a news station. Talk about obessive speaking....he has nothing positive to EVER state.

People should remove ads from his show...oooh wait first he has to have viewers for that to even matter.

    • "wing-nuts typically associate factual reporting with liberal propaganda because it's easier for them to dismiss the truth when it doesn't fit well into their ideology."

In July NPR's "On the Media" discussed a new study that reveals this only to be partly true...There are two types of people, those that search out information that supports their preconceived notions, and those who continue to expand their horizons, searching out contradictory media in search of deeper understanding. The rise of the Internet has allowed both path's develop. Niche social websites propgate doctrine on both sides of the political spectrum; however, the number of people challenging their own dogma is growing. Thank God!

Current definitely tends to be better than some niche pockets of the Internet…but it's no BBC, ForaTV, LinkTV, etc.

Not necessarily further left or right, just less interested in the spin or angle of a story. I'm sure you can agree that there are many news stories that won't fit into the 'seven-second-soundbite' format of Beck or Olberman.

That's what my suggestions have on offer. I would argue they have more depth. More focus on factual events and a story's political history...

    • Americans need to lay the fuck off that democrat / republican bull shit, all our people are doing is going in the same old rout, its left, then right, then left, then right... can we start voting for people in the middle, someone other then a dem. or a rep. I think obama has proven a lot that democrats are no different, all we did was wasted 4 more years, start voting for real issues and make sure your vote counts, these people need to get dropped after second time they screw up. look whats happening right now, republicans are gaining ground, tell me how is that going to do any good in the long run.

so please, cut the shit and start voting for the people for the right reasons, and for what these people should be standing for, not what you want them to stand for and you are an idiot if you still believe that color still matters, am talking about the people that voted for obama because he is black and the ones that didnt because he is black, fuck both of you.

    • I am a bleeding heart liberal, but I'm going to say this anyway: when the term "Faux News" is used, it's getting a little difficult to tell what network is being talked about.

I watched Olbermann for three years until he started yelling at me and trying to tell me how to think. He's just as bad as Beck or Hannity or O'Reilly, except he's on the left.

These people posing as commentators are only perpetuating the hate and division in this country.

And they only do it for ratings and everybody buys into the bullshit.

People needed something theraputic after 9/11 and tried to find it with these guys. One perpetuated fear while the other countered it and here we are, eight years later, making a news story out of another ridiculous Olbermann rant....

If "WakeUpPeople" wasn't taken, I'd change my user name!

"Money talks and bullshit walks"! He is in a tough business and cannot survive without the ratings to generate ad income. Yes, boys and girls, he does not offer a charity service. It must be paid for by advertisers, who base their rates on % of the viewing audience. If he cannot bring in viewers, he will soon be toast, well done.

OVERBITE is a f...ing loser. He is tired of getting his ass kicked by FOX so he wants some headlines. Christ Gretta's rerun beats him.

"Glenn Beck posted a 130% gain in the time period among demo viewers compared to the same period last year. The O’Reilly Factor and Hannity both posted 31% gains and On the Record with Greta Van Susteren was up 45%.

At 8 p.m., MSNBC’s Countdown with Keith Olbermann was down 26% year-to-year, the show’s first such decline since September 2006."

    • I think the main issue here is that a portion of our population is incapable of making educated decisions, and instead rely on the words of idiots on T.V. I am all for the first amendment, but it should not apply to cases in which news folk are preaching hot bullshit to the general populace of sheep. I just avoid U.S based news shows altogether now because they are useless. But I am always reminded of this crap every time I logon to current. If you hate Glenn Beck, Olbermann, and the rest of these morons, great, keep it to yourself, don't go posting stuff about them! wtf benefit do we as rationale thinking people get from knowing that they are still alive?? There are far more important things going on in the world, and this site is meant to give us a window those happenings. Posting about them will not make them go away, educating the public so they can make their own decisions is the way, but that brings to light education..and that is a whole sh*t storm of a mess in itself.

Unless you are a communist, there is no reason to infringe on anyone's First Amendment rights, even when we don't like what we hear.

I don't like reading praises about communism, but I respect the fact that it's your right to express yourself in any way, shape or form.

I am with Cameron on this. Instead of the more bullshit news crawl at the bottom of Fox's screen, there should be a crawl from independent fact checkers instead. It should roll across the bottom of the screen like this: this is bullshit.... this is sort of based on fact but Beck has twisted it to make it bull shit..... O'Reilly is just pulling shit out of his ass right now, folks..... I can't believe that reporter even said that, call Guinness because this is world class, history making bullshit right here...

There seems to be some sort of media cover up going on...

Why doesn't Beck produce proof of his innocence? Why is he silent on this matter?

The girl's family deserves an explanation.

Give me a break on this. He is considered innocent in the eyes of the law, why should your demands of proof hold any credence? His lawyers will shut him up, and rightfully, so. If a crime has been committed he should be charged and stand trial. Has America strayed so far from our principles that an internet lynch mob can demand a man be convicted and punished on opinion, alone?

Hey I stand by it. I used to be liberal, I was a lifelong fan of NBC news but it went to shit, so I switched to CNN until I saw how they reported the war in Iraq with horseshit lies suggesting that we were losing (before we even got to bagdad), "our troops are meeting stiff resistance" etc not to mention giving Iraqi Information Minister Muhammed Saeed al-Sahaf plenty of time on the air "threatening to destory the Americans!" You remember, CNN, BBC basically wringing their hands that we couldn't beat such a powerful army...FOX on the other hand had more realistic appraisals.

and then THERE WE WERE driving tanks through bagdad and CNN/BBC were acting like they were stunned.

every network has had its warts, but I'm very satisfied with FOX, thank you.

MSNBC is communist propaganda, with the exception of Morning Joe.

    • Quite everyone……..I can hear the bodies of Tim Russert and Walter Cronkite turning over in their graves after reading this article…..can you hear it?
I agree that main stream news is tainted. What ever happen to here are the facts, make you own mind up. Fox, MSNBC, CNN……..it’s all about ratings. Glen Beck and Keith Olbermann would not exist if we wanted them too, sadly they appeal to the worse of us all and that sells. They appeal to the fear, and the hate. To the ignorance and prejudice; no matter if you’re a lefty or a righty. They spin the facts as they see fit. The only reason Glen Beck is doing better then Keith is because Old people watch the news more and they tend to be more right wing……it not about who is more right, its about society! But that does not matter……because it’s all shit. Ohh you add sound effects and wear costumes and have witty little segments like “ the worse person of the day” or “pin heads and patriots”……….do you think I am idiot? Do you think that I need those cute little du dads to understand the world or issue better? Like I give a shit about body language or what’s going on with Michael Jackson. These are critical times and they require serious debate! They require facts not spin. I don’t think Americans are stupid, We are swimming in a sea of bullshit and because of that there are “death panels” in Obama care and WMDs in Iraq…….for reals. How are we to be fair and open-minded when we are surrounded by spin and lies and agendas?
Because of this, I lost trust in cable news….sorry; you don’t have it any more. You can spin how fair and balance you are or how your “Americas network” Sorry, don’t get to have the trust anymore.
I now listen to NPR and BBC World News. I read stories from the AP and Reuters to get my facts and make my mind up on my own merits. That’s what’s being a responsible citizen is all about, not being a follower because of ratings or because its what loony said is the case. I can’t be the only one that see’s this.

Your right, they are opinion shows. It however doesn’t change that fact they spin the truth. People watch these shows and believe what is said to be true. People are lazy and don’t want to form an opinion of their own, they want to latch on to someone else’s. What is said on these shows rings to them and like I said can bring out the bad. They don’t fact check, or check other sources. That’s sad and not everyone’s like that, but a lot are. Yes, Keith and Glen say this is my opinion at the start, however, they do report what is happening in the news (coated in a biases) and people take that as their source of information on what’s going on, that to me is news. look at the heath care debate….. . . I think a network that has 70% of its programming as opinion shows should ceases calling itself a news network.

"They don’t fact check, or check other sources. That’s sad and not everyone’s like that, but a lot are. " I have to disagree with you.

while no one is right 100% of the time (as I often say, neither party has a monopoly on common sense), Beck hs done a really good job of fact checking. For example, on Healthcare they took the time to read the provision about illegal aliens, then went into depth about the provision that would verify eligibility, I've seen Beck refer to fact check an other sources, and the recent backtracking by the President and Dems suggests he was right.

On the whole Gates-Crowley scandal, Beck was totally correct. Obama spoke before he thought, revealed his own prejudices against white officers, and I agree with Beck: Obama revealed a racist opinion. As a very bright black friend used to say, "we all harbor racist opinions, but what is important is that we are aware of them and try to improve ourselves". I thik it's sad Obama never apologized for accusing the officer of racial profiling when he didn't profile, just respond to a call.

Libs like to accuse Limbaugh of not 'fact checking'. there was a time (back in my socialst days) when I HATED Limbaugh, but once I actually took the time to listen with an open mind, I realized that he was miticulous in his use of supporting statements. He does draw conclusions based upon his interpretation of peoples' statements and actions, and the accuracy of those conclusions can be argued, but they are based entirely upon the statements and actions of those people/groups.

I get what you’re saying, But I think we are going to have to agree to disagree. I am sure you check sources, I am sure a lot of people check sources….I am sure even Beck and Obermann check sources. That’s not the argument. They spin whatever facts that there are into what people want to hear, and maybe not even putting things into contexts. If facts were facts then all the programs would be the same, right? It’s a market, and they are tapping into different types. And that has a personal opinions imbedded into them and like you said they are opinion shows. However, people take those extreme view too far, Fact or not, given the contexts of the shows ( Becks and Olbermann) People see this as a the truth without a broader understanding of the issue. That’s what I mean when I say people don’t at least check other sources. They just watch FOX or just watch MSNBC.

    • Millions of fans were stunned today to learn that popular TV and radio talk show host, Glenn Beck, is the first human to carry genes from another mammalian species. Beck, who has made a living seeding suspicion and blind hatred, tried for years to keep the information out of the public arena, but his personal physician, Dr. Ethan Albumen, has published a memoir detailing Beck’s unique origins.

Many may be too young to remember David Seville, who created the cartoon characters, “Alvin and the Chipmunks” in the 1960s. The main character, Alvin, was modeled upon Seville’s favorite pet, Chippy, a wild chipmunk that wandered into camp when Seville and his parents were tenting in Yosemite National Park in 1954. Seville adopted the little fellow, took him home, and they were fast friends for several years. When the chipmunk passed away, Seville convinced his parents to allow him to preserve the small pet in the family freezer.

Fast forward to 1970, when Seville was flush with royalties from the chipmunk craze. It was at that time that young Dr. Albumen, an early genetic researcher, met Seville, who was suffering from exhaustion, at a conference on biodiversity. They spoke about their mutual interest: chipmunks. Albumen had been conducting clandestine gene splicing experiments, so when Seville found this out, he convinced Albumen to clone his old friend, Chippy.

Albumen tried unsuccessfully to duplicate the diminutive rodent, and he was about to quit when, by chance, he encountered Glenn Beck’s parents at a conference on recycling. Beck’s mother, upon learning that Albumen was a geneticist, begged him for help with Glenn, who had been born without the capacity to grow teeth. The Becks had spent years tube-feeding young Glenn, and they had almost lost hope when Albumen consented to apply his brilliant theories to their case.

Utilizing a proprietary method which is still secret, Albumen administered several months’ worth of injections , a process which was very painful and which embittered young Glenn, despite his parents’ best intentions. As Glenn’s teeth began to grow and his cheeks began to widen, Albumen realized that the process was not entirely controllable.

The Becks grilled Albumen as to why their boy, who had once been passably handsome, was now taking on the facial characteristics of a chipmunk, and Albumen did his best to reassure them without letting them know that he had spliced Chippy’s genes into the very basic makeup of Glenn’s cellular foundations.

To make a long story short, Glenn Beck now carries on Chippy’s genetic legacy, Albumen stands to make millions from his tell-all book, and David Seville’s love for a small forest creature has backhandedly created one of the most controversial and hateful propagandists to slither across the forest floor. But that’s another genetic mystery, isn’t it?

Did you JUST make all of that up? This is great stuff, man! If you're not a writer by trade, you should be!

Now I can't get "Witch Doctor" out of my head.

      "ooh-eee-ooh-ah-ah...."

      ...Dammit!

Here, kstein, let me help you by correctly punctuating and rephrasing your posting:

"I think he is a public school teacher; a biased, money-oriented, thought imposing (not free-thinking) teacher or member of a school staff."

There- Now go have fun on the playground!

I did not intend that as a personal attack. I was simply trying to help someone make a more effective point. The reference to the playground was included only to establish a connection to what kstein said about public school teachers. It seemed to me that kstein had a vested interest in stating something about teachers, so I thought I would play along.

"to make a long story short"

      Too late.

Maybe you should have made it interesting. But of course only people that disliek him like you would have.

Good thing there is enough people that dislike Obama then....or maybe Glenn wouldn't be on.

now that was a clever statement! how true!

MSNBC ought to clear out all liberal scum on their network and try to restore their name.

what if they actually did some real journalism for a change?!
