Image

Contrary to previous reports, Jack Herer is still alive. The Oregonian is reporting the activist is in critical condition at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland Oregon. In addition, celebstoner has retracted their announcement of Herer's death. In light of these facts it is with pleasure the Portland Progressive Examiner retracts an earlier report of Herer's death.

Jack Herer, much beloved Emperor of Hemp and marijuana hero collapsed backstage on Saturday, September 15, at "Hempstalk 2009" in Portland, Oregon. Herer had just given a fiery speech to the crowd on the future of hemp when he suffered a heart attack and a significant loss of oxygen.

Story has been updated, apparently Jack is not dead. Sorry for the confusion.

    • Good news! from a forum @ greenpassion

      QUOTE (Granny @ Sep 22 2009, 03:01 PM)
LANE BUDLOVER TOLD ME THAT Jack is out of ICU, AND he was taken off of THE drugS THAT induced HIS coma by request of family. After 24 hours the doctor was concerned about his blood pressure and family gave him high doses of cannabis (via suppositories and/or sub-lingual) means and his blood pressure returned to HIS normal LEVEL.

    • Wow, an hour ago this site reported he was dead. This is why "stoners" should not be journalists - they became too lazy to check the facts and they have a problem being decisive ;)

It's still makes for great entertainment.

BTW, I'm glad Jack is still kicking.

    • (you guys really need to quit posting stories, when I'm to high to think to verify them; with the alive, dead, alive thing you got going on here) There are no words that can show the respect I have for this man. I can think of very few who stood up for people, and the future of this planet in the way he did. Even those who don't use marijuana, or see the truth about hemp had very much to gain by listening to his message. Unrestricted hemp policy WILL help everyone, for generations to come.....

Anyone wondering, or not so aware really might want to take a look; http://www.electricemperor.com/eecdrom/CHAPTERS.HTM

    • He and the medical corporate industrial machine were at odds. I wouldn't be surprised if the doctors betrayed him. RIP to Jack Herer - the kid who yelled "the emperor is naked" and enlightened the people. I feel the duty to carry on his message and I hope everyone else does too.

    • Marijuana activist in critical condition after collapsing at Portland festival
      by Anne Saker, The Oregonian
      Friday September 18, 2009, 4:31 PM

A well-known marijuana activist and author was in critical condition today at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center six days after speaking at the Hempstalk festival at Kelley Point Park.

Jack Herer, 70, the author of "The Emperor Wears No Clothes," suffered a heart attack last Saturday as he stepped down from the stage at Portland's annual celebration of marijuana.

Herer, of Lower Lake, Calif., is nationally known in the movement to reform drug laws to remove restrictions on growing hemp, a cousin of marijuana that does not have a psychotropic effect and has been used for cloth, paper, food and fuel for thousands of years.

    • I really hope this news is false! The more comments that turn up on that original article, the more it seems that may be the case. Hope is alive in my heart, my thoughts and well wishes are still with the family!

I will miss him and his presence on this site.

UPDATE: I'm glad Jack is still kicking! Better news than the contrary. PLEASE, PLEASE LET HIM PULL THROUGH!!

    • He got to see 'us' closer to legalization and for that I am grateful.

How can anyone put his lifetime of work into any quick comment. He has saved , changed and even helped grow lives everywhere. A kind of cultivator of new concepts...

His loss is felt by many; condolences to the family.

    • There are a couple of comments at the link refuting this. I also found no news of this on his website. Does anyone know the source of this news? It is indeed sad if true.

Edit to comment due to title change:

Good to know he is still alive even though his condition has not changed. Proving that sources reporting the death of anyone should always be checked first.

    • As a Nor-Cal Native, it is evident the importance Jack had on the industry. Had the pleasure of meeting him at a dispensary,he has made some great stains of marijuana, so his legacy is honored by those that grow.

No joke, he was the crest of the 'marijuana rights' wave and now his legacy has ended.
He will be missed by millions
