Bill Maher: New Rule-- Don't Complain About Health Care Reform, if you're Fat, Unhealthy and Stupid

New Rule: You can't complain about health care reform if you're not willing to reform your own health. Unlike most liberals, I'm glad all those teabaggers marched on Washington last week. Because judging from the photos, it's the first exercise they've gotten in years. Not counting, of course, all the Rascal scooters there, most of which aren't even for the disabled. They're just Americans who turned 60 and said, "Screw it, I'm done walking." These people are furious at the high cost of health care, so they blame illegals, who don't even get health care. News flash, Glenn Beck fans: the reason health care is so expensive is because you're all so unhealthy.

Yes, it was fun this week to watch the teabaggers complain how the media underestimated the size of their march, "How can you say there were only 60,000 of us? We filled the entire mall!" Yes, because you're fat. One whale fills the tank at Sea World, that doesn't make it a crowd.

    • sodas are a bad idea in general. i dropped like 20 lbs almost as soon as i quit them. then again i worked at red robin and got a 50% discount on meals...

but i did lose the weight when i quit sodas. drink water or unsweetened tea.

    • The term tea bagger actually means a ball sucker.

Some people are cock suckers on both sides and some of them don't even mind being referred to as such.

The deal is that the right wingers that began this tea bag movement picked a name that is irresistible to make fun of. We can't help it. They asked for it.

edjoy, they didn't call themselves "tea baggers", it was a Tea Party movement.

How can you call yourself an American and not understand the symbollic importance of the Boston Tea Party?

And you wonder why the patriotism of liberals is questioned.

Dude, Republicans all over Fox News talking about "tea bagging". I know my history and am fully aware of the Boston Tea Party and the reasons for it. This was not even close to the same thing. I heard participants talk about "tea bagging" and it was hysterical.

Don't question my patriotism or intelligence because I think this is funny. Misguided groups we saying, "we are going to tea bag that democrat" or "we are going to tea bag the capital" ruled.

I question the patriotism of people that fight against universal health care and support corporate greed and protest against a President because of the color of his skin. I did not hear a coherent reason for this "tea party" from anyone participating in these "protests".

    • What really disgusts me is the fact that Maher calls good people who oppose these policies "teabaggers".

So if we start calling all liberals "cock suckers" (which is what they mean by tea baggers), will that be OK?

Why do you liberals think that this sort of insane, offensive vulgarity is OK when it's applied to conservatives who are doing NOTHING wrong, all they are doing is protesting, and by the way, noneof them were even arrested, which is more than we can say about just about every liberal protest we've seen.

    • Maher is a bigot- that hardly constitutes humor. You want funny? Watch the 3 Stooges. (That's as much intellectual stimulation as some of these Obamaites can take.)

    • lets take out of this what he was saying: why complain about the health care you get when you are mainly the reason you need it. Eat right. Exercise and maybe you won't have to go to the doctor.

    • While heavy people do more health problems this not the problem. Some people do not even use the insurance that they have already. I pay the same money if i go to the doctor or not. If i am healthy or not. If i take care of myself there is no savings. So fix the system that way. Make it a matter of usage vs just collecting the same fees from everybody.

    • The people at the buffet probably do not know that the diet soda is a good and logical idea because Fructose and sucrose are a type of sugar it makes you MORE hungry and causes a "sick "fatty liver and fatty YOU - dextrose does NOT

      PROOF:

      http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16234313

      http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2497634

-- "...increased uric acid levels caused by dietary fructose." --causes "metabolic syndrome"--Wikipedia

you can also watch this: http://www.uctv.tv/search-details.aspx?showID=16717&subject=health
if you have a slow connection you can download it and watch it better that way

you DO NOT have to give up sugar-- you can eat dextrose w/o having this poisonous effect -- so candies like "sweet tarts" "fun dip" and others -- you can check with health food stores to see if you can get it [dextrose] in bulk for baking

more documentation of the toxic nature of fructose :

1]"It has been shown in a recent study that fructose-induced hyperuricemia may play a pathogenic role in the metabolic syndrome. This agrees with the increased consumption of fructose-base drinks in recent decades and the epidemic of diabetes and obesity."

2] Elevated serum uric acid (hyperuricemia) can result from high intake of purine-rich foods, high fructose intake (regardless of fructose's low glycemic index (GI) value) and/or impaired excretion by the kidneys. Saturation levels of uric acid in blood may result in one form of kidney stones when the urate crystallizes in the kidney. These uric acid stones are radiolucent and so do not appear on an abdominal plain x-ray or CT scan. Their presence must be diagnosed by ultrasound for this reason. Very large stones may be detected on x-ray by their displacement of the surrounding kidney tissues. Some patients with gout eventually get uric kidney stones.

Gout can occur where serum uric acid levels are as low as 6 mg/dL (~357µmol/L), but an individual can have serum values as high as 9.6 mg/dL (~565µmol/L) and not have gout.[10]

      3]
Serum uric acid can be elevated due to high fructose intake,[15]

      * reduced excretion by the kidneys, and or high intake of dietary purine.

      * Added fructose can be found in processed foods and soda beverages as sucrose, or in some countries, as high fructose corn syrup.

    • Makes sence to me. if you don't care how healthy you are. Why should any one else? I like to watch fat people at a buffe. fill there plate to the point of over flowing. then get a diet soda. I can't help but to laugh every time. When I start to put on the extra pounds my back starts hurting worst. So I am forced to stay a little on the thin side.

    • Maher has always been fat-phobic. He is slightly anal-retentive and for him it comes out around issues of food and eating.

This is a flaw I am willing to overlook because he makes me laugh and he is right 90% of the time.

    • Bill Maher has his prejudices and one of them revolves around eating habits and weight. He has a very holier than thou attitude when the subject comes up and it is fairly annoying. I love him anyway.

    • EdJoyProductions:

At least it's something that most people can change. You can eat healthier and exercise more if you are overweight.

I suppose there are people whose metabolisms are chemically "broken" and/or for a health reason they are incapable of performing aerobic exercise...but Maher understands the difference.

the problem here is that certain individuals simply don't understand that to be against teh current "plan" or "plans" doesn't mean you are against health care reform.

that's a pretty infantile expression of current events.

you can have fantastic reform without a public option. I wish you would take a moment to think about how many bad policies, from torte reform to opening insurance across state borders, requiring doctors and clinics and hospitals to advertise their costs just like every other industry, (and there are many other changes that could happen), could be enacted to reduce costs, increase choice and competition, without getting the F*ing govt involved in health care decisions.
