Politicians can't differ from eachother rmann.
It would be paradoxical to say there are politicians that will never make a bad decision.

I forgot to mention that Obama supported immunity for phone companies that illegally wiretapped on American people's phones. Tell me, how are democrats much different than the republicans?

Both democrats and republicans support bailouts for the bankers starting with the first one in 2008. Obama supports renewing the anti-civil liberties "Patriot Act." I put "Patriot Act" in quotes because if politicians were honest it would be called the 1984 act or something like that. So tell me, since neither party supports civil liberties and both parties support bailing out big businesses, How are the democrats much different than the republicans?

Maybe it can work out for good, maybe Obama will feel a need to "live up" to something he has been paid for in advance.... The guy who invented the Lobotomy to cure such ailments as homosexuality etc was awarded the Nobel Peace prize too. Good company?

Well written. I just don't understand how anyone who reads about the others nominated for the award can seriously write that Obama somehow deserved it more. He risked and sacrificed less and has so far accomplished nothing. I find this award extremely insulting to others more deserving, almost all others nominated.

So i guess Obama deserves the nobel peace prize for sitting in the white house pretending to be at war for "human rights" while this is one of the people who was overlooked this year....
Sima Samar, women’s rights activist in Afghanistan: “With dogged persistence and at great personal risk, she kept her schools and clinics open in Afghanistan even during the most repressive days of the Taliban regime, whose laws prohibited the education of girls past the age of eight. When the Taliban fell, Samar returned to Kabul and accepted the post of Minister for Women’s Affairs.”
To say we are in Afghanistan for human rights is like saying we are in Iraq for WMDs.... dont be a fucking hypocrite.......

iv'e had a frighting thought for a few days. what if obama is the worlds hero but america's enemy. in the mid 80's i worked for u.n. seminars, brainstorming the greatest problem the future holds. how to stop the u.s.a. from eradicating the 3rd world when the resources run out. how indeed.
america won't give up it's grip on the lion's share of earth's carcass, not without a fight. the most dangerous standing military (for 5% of the world) against the world, what a fight it would be. unless our military is broken on the field of battle that has broken so many before. hmmmm.
just my paranoia, couldn't be true because bush would have to be involved too. - 2 years ago

Never forget, Africa is in abject poverty because of economic slavery, not free market capitalism. The U.S. is also statist in nature and uses forms of corporatism ( a central planned economy/anti-free market) to give big business protectionism and to help reduce competitive pressures on industry. This also happens in 3rd world countries where International government bodies like the IMF back DICTATORS that enslave their populations into tribal totalitarianism. Africa could be much more prosperous with civil liberties and economic freedom versus the slavery corporatist state the government has built up around the world! What we need to do is place competitive pressures on the rich and stop subsidizing failure by encouraging perverse incentive structures by oligarchs.....or you can continue on with or declining status quo republicans and democrats.....the choice is yours.

It's time for the United States to stay out of everybody else's business. There is no doubt that bad things happen to women in other countries such as Afghanistan, but it's unconstitutional for the United States to be the world's police. All of this government spending is slowly collapsing the US dollar. For those who want single payer health care, how do you expect to be able to afford it with all of this foreign spending? Money doesn't grow on trees. Of course, the Federal Reserve acts like it does and that's why the US dollar is losing value all of the time.

TasteHi
-
you know......there was a time when our presidents, didn't agree with the rest of the world, about the US being the worst and most arrogant thing that ever happened to it.
Even if it meant giving up a shiny prize. Or being called a bully by another nation.
Presidents were proud to be leaders of the leading nation.
But I suppose we're now a generation of crowd pleasers, spin doctors, and unpatriotic citizens. I mean heck people show more loyalty towards an athlete than a president now-a-days. Is it because our presidents aren't presidents anymore?
There are only politicians and head politicians?Kennedy was right to fear a future rife with unpatriotic civilians. We might as well just throw our hands up in the air, and allow every other nation in the world to devide and consume our states.

TasteHi:
so your suggesting that we do what we want for our intrest and just say fuck it to what the rest of the world thinks? That this idea of yours to be proud of what ever policy we think up, no matter what the cost to others, is something to be proud of? How is that suppose to work exactly? you know what happens to countries in this world that do that? there is only so far you can push people around before they hate you and once they do they start sceaming to tear you apart. I think you forget we may have nukes and fancy weapons but what we dont have is a vast population and we actually cant take on the rest of the world, so yeah we should care about our standing in the world.

Whether you like Obama or not, the fact that he was nominated 12 days into office was a little premature to say the least. That he won after 9 months in office over many who ACTUALLY accomplished a great deal in the area of peace over decades because he gave eloquent speeches and set a better tone is mind boggling. At least wait until he actually accomplishes something.

Code Pink represents the faction of those who support the war on human rights grounds.
While the Taliban may or may not be a threat to the US, they are a definite threat to women.
There is a human rights argument for staying in Afghanistan, aside from the terrorism argument.

Yes, the justification argument being made by Code Pink and many other women's activists is that Afghanistan is violating human rights with their treatment of women. For examples (via Afghan-web.com):
Every 30 minutes, an Afghan woman dies during childbirth
87 percent of Afghan women are illiterate
30 percent of girls have access to education in Afghanistan
1 in every 3 Afghan women experience physical, psychological or sexual violence
44 years is the average life expectancy rate for women in Afghanistan
70 to 80 percent of women face forced marriages in Afghanistan.

So lets just cause some death to prevent some death, sounds like the whole freedom isn't free speech. I don't have an answer for the Afghanistan women, but I do know more war and more killing is not the answer, it just doesn't work. The means doesn't justify the cause. Peace doesn't mean killing for peace! Gandhi didn't have to kill anyone....

Those who back-up Obama are warmongers, just like the neocons who backed up Bush's "Iraqi Freedom"....

I am not at all certain it is right to stay in Afghanistan. I actually lean towards pulling out. I was only pointing out why Code Pink and others might favor staying in Afghanistan.
However, the cult of Ron Paul tactic claiminging Bush and Obama, Republicans and Democrats, are the same, is naive and disingenuous.

Looking at how both dems and reps screw us all in their actions based on the same political landscape and polarize us through hedgemony to keep us from noticing is more disingenuous than pointing out that fact..... the differences are trivial compared to the similarities... if we ever want true constitutional change it will never come from either party.....

I stood next to code pink during a protest in DC, they werent so bad, but the cops felt the need to push the smallest and oldest which prompted me to ask him how he felt if someone did that to his mother, and he stopped.... unfortunately their dissent was partisan, and are now supportive of the war.... people need to look beyond labels....
