Sarah Barrett, head of customer experience at the airport, said most passengers did not like the traditional "pat down" search.
At Manchester Airport's Terminal 2, where the machine has been introduced, passengers will no longer have to remove their coats, shoes and belts as they go through security checks.
Ms Barrett said: "This scanner completely takes away the hassle of needing to undress."
Ms Barrett said the black-and-white image would only be seen by one officer in a remote location before it was deleted.
"The images are not erotic or pornographic and they cannot be stored or captured in any way," she said.
Passengers could refuse to be scanned, she added."
Coming to an airport, school, court, amusement park, concert and sports venue near you. Makes you long for the days of profiling.

Christ, now we have porn at the airport. Don't tell me the jokes aren't going to be flying in the back room about the guy with the huge d**k or the chick with the big t*ts. To be honest, I prefer the pat down.

Assuming you're not one of the lucky people being profiled.

See that is what I don't get. There are plenty of airports that use background checks and have never had any major problems. Yet we still look for sillier and sillier alternatives, such as this device that puts you right on the scan-a-max channel.

if the images can not be stored or captured in anyway,..how will they use "no" hard or documented evidence to convict someone?

obviously if they see something on the scanner they will stop you and pat you down. they will find what you're hiding and prosecute you for possession... the picture isn't evidence in this case, the paraphernalia is.

Obviously the images can be saved, how else would they have saved the example image that accompanied the article?

You said it yourself - "sample image". It is a demo image from a demo unit.
The production units are not equipped with storage devices.
In addition, units in testing in the US are equipped to blur the human image to remove details of the body - they really are only interested in what that body is carrying, not what it looks like.
If they really want to know, they have the authority to take you out of line and strip search you.
