Colbert Destroys R.I. Governor For Denying Gay Couples Death Rights

pjacobs51
Rhode Island Governor Don Carcieri vetoed legislation last week that would give same-sex couples the rights to claim the bodies of and make funeral arrangements for their deceased partners. He said such legislation was a "disturbing trend" signifying the erosion of traditional marriage.

Stephen Colbert took both Carcieri and the Catholic Church to task last night, the latter for threatening to close its homeless shelters in DC if gay marriage becomes legal there. "I mean, they have no choice. After all, as Jesus said, 'If you wish to be perfect, go and sell your possessions and give the money to the poor, unless a couple of dudes register at Pottery Barn, in which case, f**k the poor,'" Colbert quipped.

He went on to "applaud" Carcieri for his stand against giving gay couples the right to post obits for and bury their partners saying, "This is an assault on marriage from beyond the grave. They're like gay zombies."

    • Well, we certainly can all agree that there is way too much love in the world and something, anything has to be done to curtail that gay unbridled passion ;)

“Love is bigger than government. Who the hell are we as a government to tell people who you can fall in love with? I think it‘s absurd that fact is even being debated. “ - Jesse Ventura

Or you miss the point with every post.

Closer to fact with that one...seeing how I know what The Colbert Report is. Satire is a fun thing, but not so fun when it's done against the things you believe to be true---as you two prove.

    • I am so sick of people trying to inflict their personal beliefs on the rest of us. If the governor is that against homosexuals then move to Iran or Saudi Arabia. There are none there. Get over it folks, homosexuality is not a disease it is a sexuall preference .

    • Why are you all still tolerating this America in the UK same sex partners have been organsing there deceased partners funerals for some time, the reason for most is they have stated in their "Wills" legal documentation signed infront of a solicitor.
My partner has been named as my main excecutor of estate with all property & belonings past to him with a set amout for him to disperse amongst my family.
Perhaps if it is to remain that way in DC quite a few couple's will be going to the lawyers for such preparations to be put in place.

The same reason you didn't know about children being shipped off away from their parents for a better life. The PR people for homosexual rights can't do their job right. As for legal documentation....well that would set a precedent and give them footing. Why ever would they do that? It's better to yell with signs.

J_Jammer I was aware of children being shiped off to different countries it was going on for over 300 years & only stopped in the past 40 years, also the UK had shipped the most out all countries involved in the enforced immigration program of white children so please get your stated facts correct prior to posting.
Yes it is amazing how legal documentation can get people a footing & the rights to there partners funerals, shows that the way to hurt political injustices & social wrongs is in a court not on the street's amazing.

J_Jammer is a real purist. He's willing to support the denial basic legal arrangements because it could theoretically lead to gay marriage. I guess we shouldn't let gay people vote or stand on juries. I mean, once you start giving them rights, where will it end? Full equality?

    • I guess it's not enough to spit on gay people while they're still alive.

Picking on the dead and bereaved ...I don't think it gets any lower than that.

    • Since when does sexuality matter when you're dead?
I can't believe there are still self-righteous bastards like this governor. When will they know that their "protection" is just hate?

Someone made the point once that if B-52's were dropping condoms on the Vietnamese instead of just bombs, the Catholic church would have come out loud and strong against the war.

The fact is the Catholic Church disapproves of ALL sex, gay or straight. There opposition to straight sex is grounded in misogeny and property rights. It should come as no surprise that two of the most famous women in the bible are a virgin and a whore, both named Mary.

Their initial opposition to priests being married was becasue they didn't want a spouse to have more legal rights to her husbands property than the church. I honestly think their opposition to gay sex is tied to their opposition of all sex and not simply because it's a same sex couple. The fact that its same sex simply makes it easier to condemn from a cultural perspective. It's ironic to think that all this insanity eminates from a group of people that shuffled pedophiles from one church to another instead of turning them over to the police.

The Catholic Church is seriously fucked up. Anyone who abides by thier "rules" should have thier head examined......enter the Govenor of RI.
