I hear that. For a while my regular job was subsidizing the up-front costs of making t-shirts.
I set up a business account at my credit union before I started doing online sales, and set money aside in it, so now all my operating costs come out of that. And I make sure to keep my personal costs and my business costs separate. I may not have any money to eat, but I have saved enough money making these stencil and fabric paint shirts to finally buy ~$200 worth of silk-screening equipment.
