I don't think that there is a military solution. These people who live there are pretty resourceful.

there does remain one good way out of a briar patch. Cut the shrub up into pieces and toss it in the trash. No more briar patch, simple. This is actually a war of mindshare. What got us out of Iraq was not us defeating the insurgents, it was the Iraqi people them selves getting sick of them. Armies require supply chains. Guerrillas require public opinion. Covert support of the public IS their supply chain. IMHO This is a war that will be won with things like running water, clean politics, and reliable police protection. It's a much an ongoing election as it is a war.
On a side note this guy has some of the ugliest, lamest, and most poorly done t-shirts I have ever seen for sale. I am including things like junior high school talent shows here. Those aren't even silk screens, they're stencils. Possibly with spray paint, it's hard to tell. this guy can't even do his actual job.

well if you want to put it that way then we're still in Germany and hell, the Philippines too for that matter. Theodore Roosevelt fought in that one before he was even president for god's sake. That's like saying an abandoned building is still being used as a kitchen because you found old crumbs under what used to be a sink.
There's a giant difference between having a base and having a major standing army. We are not fully out of Iraq yet but we are both committed to leave, and definitely on the way. It is still possible that we may have to go back, but the movement is current.y occuring.

Quagmire, Jan??? Where's your patriotism? DON'T call it a quagmire. It's a 6 mile deep quicksand with an undertow.

Insurgents need not win. They need only to convince your country that it cannot win. That is the definition of guerrilla victory.

I sorta remember a guerilla victory that happened around July of 1776.

How many decades do we wait for the happy news?
And how will we know we 'won'? Will the President pretend to land a plane on an aircraft carrier with a kubasa shoved down his pants in front of a Mission Accomplished banner?

I'll make the popcorn. Let's all get comfy and cheer on the inevitable destruction together. Yes we can... let the industrial military complex bankrupt us into oblivion.

Sure, war will turn a profit but not for you and me. We'll pay the bill, though. How's that for brainwashed?

::eyes staring into space, arms up in front of me:: Yes, it is good that we don't have health care for our citizens. It is good that we let corporations outsource. It is good that there are hungry people in our own country. Let us wage pointless war. Let's nation build in other countries. Let's pay outrageous bills to military contractors that kill our soldiers. Let's sacrifice the lives of kids that probably just wanted some way to pay for an education.
Is that brainwashed enough for you?

Since you're bringing the popcorn, I'll supply the Baileys. Does popcorn even go with Baileys?
