Roy E. Disney dies at 79

Roy E. Disney, the nephew of the late Walt Disney and a longtime senior executive for the Walt Disney Company, died Wednesday morning, sources confirm to Zap2it. He was 79.

Disney had been battling cancer. The news was first reported by the Los Angeles Times.

Throughout Roy Edward Disney's career, he kept the core Disney creative spirit alive and spearheaded the ousting of two top Disney executives, Ron Miller and Michael Eisner, at the Walt Disney Company, which was founded by his uncle Walt and father Roy Oliver Disney. He's also been credited for bringing about the Disney animation renaissance of the 1990s that actually began in 1989 with the "Little Mermaid" and also included "Beauty and the Beast," "The Lion King," "Aladdin" and "Hercules."

    • I live in Orlando, and visit Disney World round twice weekly. The man enforced a dream that even a 24 year old male can fall in love with. Mikey Eisner almost ruined one of the greatest companies to ever believe in the American Dream. Walt Disney may have built in other countries, but this is because he was an American man who dreamed and used his resources to make it a reality. We will all miss ol Roy, but in a sense the glory is strengthened for the goal of a smiling child.

    • Real good story lines back in the day, What a waste I am sure Walt never intended his name to be smeared by this new generation who are influenced from Sex, Money, Bling Bling and other derogatory traits like High School Musical, and Hannah Montana and any other form of sexual appeal that will get the ratings.
