bushama
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WTVC-TV) - A 4-year-old boy, beer in hand, is accused of stealing Christmas presents from his neighbors. It's a strange story, but also a sad one.

April Wright is 21 years old and is going through a divorce with her husband who is in jail. She says she is not sure how her 4-year-old managed to get out of the house, open a beer, and steal the neighbors presents from under their tree. Now she's just glad he's okay and says she won't let it happen again.

The child, Hayden Wright, was found around 1:45 am Tuesday, wandering the streets of his neighborhood. In a police reports, officers said he was wearing a little girl's dress and drinking a beer. The police report says the child had to taken to the hospital to be treated for alcohol consumption.

    • As a former Bostonian and New Yorker, this doesn't 'shock' me and shouldn't shock anyone else. This is the diversity of life that is everywhere; no need to call the woman white trash or anything like that. There's white trash in Manhattan, NY and Manhattan,KS or Miami, FL or Miami, OH. This is just another sensationalized piece of news because this is what keeps the reality TV-watching public mesmerized, and everyone wants their 15 minutes of fame. The woman's probably hoping that Bravo calls her to be on the "Real Housewives of East Tennessee".

Being a Nashville resident, I take great offense at the generalization of Tennesseans; we have some of the brightest minds in politics, healthcare, entertainment, etc., just like everywhere else. If you're watching Nicole Kidman in Nine, or listening to Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Brad Paisley or yes, even Donna Summer, they are all full-time Nashville residents. Tennessee has a quality of life that even a 39 year New Englander has embraced and enjoyed.

Yes, these things happen. What we should take away from this is that this woman is in need of some help and assistance, she's probably overwhelmed with life. Look around your neighborhood and see if there's anyone like her that you could help in some way, especially at Christmas time.

Just some thoughts. I'm going to eat some of the country's best fried chicken now...

    • ...has anyone even asked about the boy - what his pumishment is and how he is handeling the circumstance? No. Maybe becuase it IS fictional...that, or the mother does not want the blame.

    • Don't be so quick to judge. When I was 3, I used to wander around the neighborhood at night and go into people's houses if the doors were open. I did it way more than once. Now I am not saying I had the best parents in the world, but I could easily see this happening to even a good parent. I was lucky that the neighbors were nice and always brought me home and they thought it was amusing.

This kid understood that in order to go to jail to be with dad, he needed to do the things he did, so this is actually pretty logical. He had a mission and he tried to accomplish it. When you think about it like that, it is impressive. It was very naive due to his inexperience with life, possibly dangerous, but pretty well thought out with his limited view of the world. I hope his intelligence is recognized and cultivated.

This kid has either a very bright future ahead of him of a very bad one. I don't think he will be ordinary.

    • This strikes me as either a cover up for something OR another sad stunt for media attention...

Why would a parent, whom was arguably negligent in one way or another, agree to be interviewed for the news and provide photos of her son? Would she not be mortified and embarrassed by the whole situation and just want it to go away?

Either way, this is incredibly sad.

    • I'm pissed off and impressed at the same time. How the fu*k did that 4 year old kid get his hands on a beer (open it!), escape his house, and break into another!?
They should do more investigating. It just doesn't make any sense.

    • I guarantee you this is not the first time that this child has drank beer before(if he had drank enough to have to have his stomach pumped)(plus beer is an acquired taste, especially unless you are trying to impress your friends), this child needs to be removed from this household and the "mother" arrested and put in jail.

    • A 4 year old is not emotionally capable to carry out a plan that includes leaving his house in the middle of the night to rob neighbor’s house and on the top of that wondering the streets wearing a girl's dress and drinking beer. No way!
Maybe mother has robbed the neighbors, dressed the boy in dress gave the boy beer and blamed the robbery on the boy.

    • yes, that boy is industrious - and believe me, if he has been around daddy, mommy and gpa while they have been cracking a few open then guaranteed he can pop one of those bad boys open (that or he found an open container) either way the mother was smart not to mention either of these case scenarios.

    • This actually sounds like a pretty intelligent and industrious kid for a four year old.

He got that his dad was in jail for doing bad things, that people who do bad things go to jail, and he knew that he wanted to see his dad.

Therefore he made a list of bad things he thought would get him put in jail, and performed them.

    • Viciouspike:

She and Dad have probably been teaching him how to use a stolen credit card to slip locks and break into houses so they could have a happy and fruitful holiday season. They knew if they sent the kid that he wouldn't have to serve time.....

I dunno, maybe he levered it open. The main problem here isn't complexity, it's main strength. If grampa kept one of those beer openers on his key chain and the kid had seen it used that's all it would take.

    • I love it when the mom tries to rationalize this by saying kids just do these things...her son just took wild child to a whole new level!

    • This kid will grow up and have his own syndicated radio program that will be eventually picked up by FOX News for their 5 PM - 10 PM programing.

    • It's really sad how he wanted to get into trouble, just like his father, so that he could see him in jail. Let's hope he doesn't get into more serious crime as he gets older.

I don't really buy that line....I think Mom was just trying to find some way to "explain" this and that was what she came up with. A four year old's reasoning skills are not such that you could convince me that that tiny child came up with this crazy plan to be like dear ol' dad....
I was opening my dad's Budweiser (in cans) when I was four, also (back in the early 70s). And I would drink the whole thing, cold or hot, it didn't matter. I would also drink my dad's bourbon and water he'd leave setting around. I would then go staggering outside. True story. Never stole from the neighbors though!

    • Oh man I just saw the part that says he was found walking down the street wearing a dress and drinking a beer, that's not supposed to happen until your college days little guy! Nice parenting skills BTW.
