EDITORIAL: Obama greater than Jesus

Image
unimatrix0
He is provocative in insisting on an outstretched hand, where others only see animosity.

His tangible results in the short time that he has been active – are few and far between. His greatest results have been created with words and speeches – words that remain in the consciousness of their audience and have long-term effects.

He comes from humble beginnings and defends the weak and vulnerable, because he can identify himself with their conditions.

And no we are not thinking of Jesus Christ, whose birthday has just been celebrated - - but rather the President of the United States Barack Hussein Obama.

    • Ah, mojojuju, but you are putting words in my mouth (keyboard) that I did not say. I never said that Obama was a genius. I said that the allegation that he was a moron was ludicrous given not only his academic achievements but also his teaching career.

Bush was a "legacy" admission. In other words, if his application was given a letter grade of "C" when it was received, it would be bumped up to a "B" due to the fact that he followed his father. Furthermore, the selectivity at Yale was MIUCH less competitive in his day than it was by the time Obama was admitted.

The admissions criteria for Obama to get into Columbia were extremely demanding...but a few "morons" doubtless slip through at the undergraduate level. That simply does not happen in the transition from undergrad to Harvard Law. Only the best of the best students make that leap. Then he made Law Review...which only the best law students achieve. But THEN he taught at one of the ten best law schools in the country. Mine was ranked 18th, and I never met a single law professor in three years who could even REMOTELY be called "moronic."

As to the allegations that he was a salesperson and all the rest...fine, whatever...but none of that has anything to do with my post. I was simply refuting the "moronic" tag, not suggesting that he was a genius or a wonderful president (though he most certainly is). On that latter point, I LOVE all the horseshit about how all he does is make speeches. I have lived through nine presidencies thus far...that is all any of them did in public. Some, like the two Bushes, were just really, really, bad at it.

The decision-making and policy analysis is always done out of the public eye. I guess the idiots who make such allegations want to see him dig a ditch or something (I am not referring to you with this statement, BTW)

The news-clip you did show earlier, gave witnesses who basically said there was very lax security and an "Indian" man went in the back with the boy and got him on the plane, around the initial request to see a passport. This sounded like there was some sort of under-the table dealings. But that's how terrorists work.
The government, on the hand, does underhanded things where no one sees, nor hears a damn thing.
So from your clip, I see no secret plans by our government.

    • Obama surely isn't the Messiah, but he is an extremely intelligent man...Numerous people accuse Blacks of supporting Obama because he is Black, and that is a very ignorant assumption..Obama is biracial...He is half White and half Black...I have never heard anyone accuse his supporters of supporting him because of his White bloodline...Most White politicians are supported only, because of the Color of their skin...America is governed by many inept politicians, voted into office not because of their qualifications, but because of their race....You people make stupid statements, the majority of Black voters always vote for the Democratic candidate for president...Most Blacks are from the working class, and they know that the Republican Party is anti labor and pro Big Business....When Obama supporters voted him into office, they knew that he was not the Messiah, but he was .a competent, hard working politician...The majority of Obama's supporters are White...Most of America's debt was left behind by George Bush...

    • wow. someone played the "so-and-so died for your rights" card.
      that's tired and old.
we understand how shitty it is that people are sacrificed for the motives of our government to the military, but it doesn't make it right.

we are all human beings, allowed to say and do what we want. there is no reason to talk like you do toward someone because your relative died in a war.

the fact is, nobody should have to die in any war. war shouldn't ever happen. it's a primitive act of man that should have died long ago.

for those that have family members that were needlessly killed in war, do you still support the military and aims of our government after their death? i'm interested in knowing.

since this post is more about jesus and Obama, maybe we should keep it that way?

i'm sorry misticdog44, for your loss. it was needless. he, along with the many innocent women and children in the countries that we've occupied in the past several years, never needed to die.

      only better!

plus, he has the whole black thing going for him. perhaps we should have a vote:

Who would like to see Jesus' black skin make a comeback?

kidding. i don't want to take away from the original thread's premise.

Rev Wright was a normal and genuine black preacher and very good at it. When his video sermon got released to crush the Obama candidacy, he went straight up to the Press Club, said 'Yeah I said it, I said what I meant, tough' - and then having pulling everyone's ire and all responsibility onto his own back, walked straight right out leaving an empty stage for them to make nothing more of it.

He popped the bubble, took the storm under his arm and left the building.

That's more BALLS than 99.999999999999999999999% of anyone else you'll ever meet.

    • I am a 47 year old black man from Anchorage Alaska. When Obama became President I and everyone I knew had a real sense of pride. We were finally represented. Finally a voice to be herd. Well It is 4am on Dec.30 2009 and I can’t sleep. I guess I just wanted to tell the world how ashamed I am for supporting Obama. It is not just me. Everyone I know is ashamed because Obama represents our race. I am so so very sorry. I call out to every black person in all of the country and the world to turn our collective backs on this heretic. He must be removed from office and any other public office. No matter what he must be removed!. Never again can we let the color of our skin blind us so badly from the truth.

It is good that Obama got elected - at least, that is how it appears at this time. For all the exact reasons in which you found pride.

The presidency is a political office - and Obama is good at politics. The country is run by money. That IS the way it is. Those interests are being fed - exactly as anyone in that office would do.

As far as what he will accomplish, or how far he may push his work - he is just starting and there's more huge tidal forces pushing him, and all us, than any other president has seen - so it might be best to bide your time on losing heart.

The party just started and everyone's on their first drink. It may end up far different than you're fearing.

    • Wow. Interesting allegations being thrown around on this strange little piece. Obama's Presidency is one of many words and few deeds. You mean like compared to the Bush or Clinton Presidencies? Well, they were President for 8 years each. Obama is STILL a few weeks shy of one year. He may or may not wind up being remembered as an average President...but he hasn't even served 25% of one term yet.

And the allegation that he is a "moron" is just ludicrous. I can understand arguments that he is ineffective or inexperienced or even misguided, but saying that he is a moron after graduating from Columbia undergrad, Harvard grad and teaching at the U of Chicago is just inaccurate.

There are quite a few areas in which I think the Obama Administration has failed thus far. That is what I expected, since every administration since I was born (Kennedy) has failed in a (large) number of areas. Some failures (Nixon) were just more spectacular than others.

But Americans wouldn't want Jesus to be President anyway (heck, I am persuaded that if Jesus appeared among us again anonymously, he would probably be crucified even more quickly now than he was in the Bible stories)...what with preaching all that love thy neighbor crap...

I don't agree that President Obama'a affiliation with prestigious academic institutions disqualifies him from being a moron.

There aren't many people on Current and elsewhere that would disagree with me when I say that George W. Bush a moron. But let's not forget that George W received his Bachelors from Yale and went on to earn an MBA from Harvard. I certainly don't think that where a person earned his degrees is a reliable measure of competence, intelligence, or lack of personal idiocy.

But that's not to say that Obama is or is not a moron. I just don't think he has an aptitude for his role as president. He's smart all-right, but his 'smarts' seem to be the kind that are best suited for a career as a salesman. And there's nothing wrong with that.

I just wouldn't be quick to assume that Obama is some kind of genius (or that he's not a moron) because of his affiliation with "big name" schools. I don't care about his or anyone's academic resume. What's more important is what he can do effectively in his role as president.

All hail Obama and then Burn Baby Burn. The greatest deceiver in History. The Great Deceiver. We all know where this goes from now, but, in the end, he loses. He will try, yes, he will try. • The article is rather dry and sarcastic and not the idolizing praise certain misinformed people here think it is. On one hand it's making fun of that fact that Obama's legacy is one of few deeds but many words which is actually much like Jesus while on the other hand mocking the strawman of Obama idolization that republicans have built in wanting to believe that Obama supporters see him as a god.

This strawman of Obama idolization is a bit of Republican damage control. they don't want another JFK except perhaps in the end result. JFK has an enduring legacy that even an affair with Marilyn Monroe can not besmirch. With Obama, the first black president at a time of crisis and after a very lackluster presidency, there was bound to be a lot of people being overly supportive of him and pinning their hopes on him. Another JFK legacy in the making. One way to deal with this is to not only attack Obama directly but to attack the support itself and make more level-headed supporters uncomfortable with being associated with the exaggerated/strawman of Obama-worshipping loonies.

They want to distort support for Obama into some kind of blind mindless following akin to those who followed Hitler and Mao. This may explain why some of the rightwingers keep calling him a Nazi Communist - two political ideologies that are incomparable except to those who don't really understand them.

    • Gag me. You've got to be kidding? Did anyone read that article? Health care "reform" hasn't even been approved or decided on yet they are touting it as an historical achievement - wait til the details come out in the final product - details NO ONE has read before they voted on it.

The bailouts? good lord. They're wrecking us and so will health care because it's going to be too expensive for ANYONE once the government sinks it's hand into it. Just like they "fixed" the credit card crisis - all they accomplished was putting stupid demands on the banks to notify of rate hikes and what'd we all get? Triple rates. Thanks dems. I used to enjoy very low rates, but since Obama's credit reform, the rates have tripled. Guess what's gonna happen with health care premiums when they "reform" the system?

Well, as far as the author not giving Jesus the glory for his miracles (too many to be printed in one small book), I'd venture to say God is going to show this blasphemer author just what He is all about. I wouldn't want to be in his shoes on judgement day.

Some of you criticize him because you think he's some kind of Socialist/Fascist/Communist/Boogie Monster. He's a corporate centrist, and the only kind of Socialism he believes is Corporate Socialism. Hence the bailouts.

I don't know where that whole Obama/Messiah thing came from. I've never known anyone who regarded Obama as some kind of Messiah. That doesn't mean there aren't Obama zealots though. These are usually knob jockeys of the Democratic Party, the ones that applaud anything the Democratic party does. They're just as bad Republican knob jockeys. A bunch of partisan assholes.

If Jesus was just some guy that told stories a couple of thousand years ago then every Nobel Prize winner, Medal of Honor recipient or Academy Award winner is greater than Jesus.

If Jesus wasn’t that great then what is the author’s point in comparing anyone to Him at all? This is the “journalistic” equivalent of running naked across a baseball field. Just trying to get shock attention and cause a “scandal.”

Granted he inherited a litany of problems from the previous distractions but now its time for Obama to live up to his campaign slogans and empty promises to the American people. Looks like you got your wish since you are wrong about that because it was the RNC that started it. I guess some would rather forget that it was the McCain campaign that dubbed Obama a messiah with the title of "The One"

Which sounds to me like during that time McCain was stuck building the monuments for Seti the Pharoh who told him "So let it be written, so let it be done" and is just jealous that Obama is getting all glory since McCain was old enough to say "I knew Moses, I served with Moses and Obama, you're no Moses"

Apparently as a campaign strategy it backfired since people seemed to take it more as a joke than a serious negative

"It's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations." --explaining his troubles winning over some working-class voters ( yeah shit for brains, I cling to my guns and religion)

"Come on! I just answered, like, eight questions." --exasperated by reporters after a news conference

Can't think of anything better? Just because there are some quotes stupid or not is in no way relevant to how the rumor got started.

"doesnt work that way. I take you for what you say." You aren't very good at applying those standards to yourself, so that must mean that your word means nothing

There are no facts to shed light on his motives as to why he wrote the artcle and I never claimed any.

All I proved was that the Republicans spread the idea of the Messiah and you have no evidence to prove that it came from any other source.

You also still refuse to apply those standards to yourself so it also goes to prove your word means nothing

I do have a source since that video is on John McCain's official campaign site so it proves directly where it comes from. John McCain authorized it and so did the RNC.

That was the first instance of the "Messiah" rumor

What have you got? Nothing but excuses

I told you once and this is the last time....... no one ever said that that piece of shit that has run this country into the ground all the while acting like a little pussy telling the world he is sorry for Americas actions is GREATER than the messiah. If you have video proof that shows a republican saying obama is greater than the messiah e-mail me.

Other wise this conversation is over.

They said in that video "Annointed, ready to carry the burden of the world. He can do no wrong" some would say that does at least give him the appearance of it. Those that would believe that kind of thing might say that.

I guess this conversation is over since there is no point in your repeating the same points with no facts to back them up.

    • The guy who wrote it is a journalist from Denmark, writing for a European audience based in Denmark.

It is neither Republican nor Democratic in origin. It is funny, and curious, and I thought I would share.

      Enjoy!

You're overwhelming Obama's influence on anything. And completely underwhelming the influence Mao Zedong had on China.

Perhaps you should stop focusing on labeling Obama a communist, and find a real reason to find fault with his presidency.

    • That's not really saying much since as John Lennon said "We're more popular than Jesus now; I don't know which will go first — rock and roll or Christianity. Jesus was all right, but his disciples were thick and ordinary. It's them twisting it that ruins it for"

So it's not that much competition because while Obama might be greater than Jesus, there is no way that Obama is more popular than the Beatles

    • Lol @ Republicans who actually think Obama is worshiped as some sort of deity. He's an elected official. A puppet of an elected official, on the strings of corporate masters. Will those lunkheads ever learn?

At least you know he is nothing but a puppet for those who pull his strings. I cant wait to see how you praise him in the future and I will be watching. If you truly believe what you just wrote you really cant even say he has much to do with what gets done seeing as how he is only doing what he is told by those in control of his strings.

Just to be clear, I believe that all the presidents for the last 50? 100? years have also been puppets.

I've always been even-handed with everyone. I'm just to the point where I'm sick of the Democrat's inefficiency of doing anything productive as I am the Republican's smear and fear campaign. All these jackasses are best friends forever when the cameras stop rolling save for the small handful that actually give a shit about what goes on in this country. And that handful is small in the sea full of liars and crooks.

Just because I bash on Republicans the majority of the time does not make me an Obama supporter. It just means their bullshit is the most blatant of the two parties. I'm not happy with the job Obama is doing either. The health care bill that passed was complete crap that won't help anyone in the long run, he still hasn't gotten anywhere in Iraq or Afghanistan, and he keeps pandering to the right wing (who will tell people he laced his shoes incorrectly to make him out to be an ineffective leader). I didn't vote for a war-monger, and instead I voted for a doormat. It won't happen again because I'm done with a two party system.
