i disagree.he was guilty, and therefore recieved punishment.if current chose to grant clemency to others, that is there peroggative as who ever said current was fair.thats his faulty pressumption.this is theyre yard, not ours.
aside from this bleak pragmatic view, thier is certainly a case to be made that those who offend more frequently than those who dont show a pathology against progress.just as we all get sick every time some freak criminal gets out of jail only to recommit the same damn crime, jj is currents equivalent.while his crimes are the most minimal imaginable, the fact is he continues to offend, no matter what, and he is recieving the exact response that is appropriate.if it were my site i would have been far less forgiving than current was with the 700 chances.hell when life hangs in the balance, we still like the three strike rule no?

Hey All, just wondering. I was flipping through channels yesterday on Sunday, and found a television program called Jesus Jams. Does JJammer have to do with this idea of Christian music videos?
Does JJammer mean that he is a Jesus Jammer? Just curious....if anyone knows what his name is really supposed to mean.

I know i'm late to this, but I too agree that he shouldn't be banned. He did make a racist comment and offended people. Suspending him would have been the best thing and removing some of his badges would have maybe calmed him down.. but to banned him? That's a bit a much specially when he never sexually harassed anyone or threaten to kill anyone.
I know he's not a member of the KKK, he's half Japanese and we have talked about our Japanese culture(when we use to get along)
I agree and disagree with the comments here, but the only comment I can truly agree with here is, banning him was not the best choice. If there's a petition to bring him back, I'll sign it as well, but! let's put some limitations on what he can do to make him understand that his comments do affect people.

All of that tracking and reading of comments, and scrutinizing Current must take a lot of time. I find it shocking that a website/TV channel can evoke such strong emotion out of someone. I'd spend less time sitting in front of the TV and computer screens if I were said "crazy bitch".

i see nothing wrong with banning the use of unnecessary expletives. highly detailed refferences do more for the support of your argument than do curses or threats. the next time you are angry about something give yourself time to think about it before you say something you might later regret. free speech? this is a private site, owned by a private party. while unpopular, they reserve the right to ban or censor anything they choose. i agree that current is becoming less "user-created" and that's frustrating. however, no user is in any position to make DEMANDS from a site that they aren't paying any money for.

While this is not a freedom of speech issue in whole, the video does point out how there are differences in reactions from the Current staffers that depend on their own point of views. Many people violate the terms, but yes they are only exposed for it when there is a flag that brings it to their attention. Still it does make one wonder why certain profiles are not punished when other's are. The person who admitted they had profiles who had been banned, did the recent profile violate any rules, or was it a ban based on personal vendettas?? Staffers are human, and not perfect. Still this forum will be boring if everyone agreed......

Nancyf, I have to agree with DeliaTheArtist on this. Freedom of speech has nothing to do with this issue. If this was an issue in which the government banned someone from participating in the online community because of something that was said, then there might be something to the first amendment being violated. However, since that is not the case, arguing about freedoms granted to us by our government is irrelevant.
Also moving along to the terms of agreement. It is true that this is not a community that people pay to join online. That does not mean that there is no contract, nor does it mean that current is the equivalent of a public place. Think instead of current like a bar or coffee shop where people come to exchange ideas. You might or might not be able to pay for things, but you don't need to buy anything to get in, hang around, and chat for a bit. However, if you proceed to be uncivil any establishment of the sort retains the right to remove you from the premises. In much the same way, everyone with an account on current signed an electronic contract stating that they would behave within certain boundaries. It is not negotiable, and you can't get an account without agreeing to the contract. Now I, and I assume just about everyone else here on current, have not read the contract. There is a reason why for that, it is because just about every contract to get on any forum on the internet has identical terms. They all pretty much sum up as, don't post racist things, don't be a troll, don't threaten people with written words of violence, etc. If one violates these enough on just about any forum, then they typically get smacked up to hell from an admins ban hammer. DeliaTheArtist is also correct that the admins of current don't read through people's posts to look for ban worthy material. There are thousands of posts on this website daily. They can't keep track of them all. As DeliaTheArtist wrote, people flag posts that they think are inappropriate and the admins look at it in response. If the person who was flagged for their comment violated the electronic contract then there is a problem. If they did not violate the electronic contract, then the admins do nothing, no matter how many flags the comment gets.
Now in response to J_Jammer being banned, I am sorry to see him go. I'm not sorry because he was a constant argument, nor am I sorry because he was a pain in the ass that liked to argue and piss people off just to argue. I'm sorry to see him gone because I actually had a few decent debates with him that stirred the neurons. It didn't happen often, but it was fun when it did happen.

Right. You have no choice here but current's. That is why I do not post anything on here anymore as it is their opinion that matters. Sure, I didn't like Jammer either and blocked him long ago, yet he wanted to crud to me anywhere I might want to leave a comment. There u have no choice either. Current will not protect their people with an adequate 'block' button that would stop a stalker cold. I have blocked many people and will comment sometimes on a person's post if I don't remember blocking them. (No program to show u THAT when u read a blocked persons.) I really don't care if they delete me, 'cause I've been thinking for quite some time of doing that myself as this place is full of Republicans that hate people. I have most of them blocked, but like I said, it is not helpful to completely ignore them. Like bootleggers they can do what they want. But I will restrict myself to silence. Happy?

DeliaTheArtist, I believe a block button that has the safety and protection for people from stalkers that has the connotations of personal choice is to blank them out from the stalkers on any page on their website. That way, they wouldn't have the responsibility of banning them, but only if they were breaking laws on their site. Then they would be responsibile to report them to authorities and ban them at their leisure. Have u ever felt the pain of being ignored when rejected?

I agree that we are the government. I just don't understand how that or anything else related to the constitution has anything to do with this thread! You original comment was
"But when they get personal and violate privacy by judging them without a court of law, they are breaking the constitution. Go ask a Supreme court judge."
I don't think any supreme court judge would even come close to taking a case like this seriously, in which a member of a website voluntarily agreed to terms of services then repeatedly violated them which resulted in being removed from the site. There is nothing to my knowledge in the constitution that says private websites need a court of law to remove members.

Bascially, Supreme court Judges are the indiviuals selected to support their own personal interpretation of parts of the constitution wheter right or wrong...are u aware of the things that hurt us can now be used against those who used it against us? And which parts can u use to commit Justice for We The People? We ARE the Government. He who denies it is Anti-American and knows not the constitution and the establishment of civil rights and liberties. Oh, those who took away too many rights from other Americans should tremble in their boots...

Nancy, what in the world are you talking about? This has nothing to do with the constitution. Current is a website where you voluntarily agree to terms of service and community guidelines- I see NO breach of the constitution there! They shouldn't have 'terms of service' if this is FREE. If u r not paying for it, and they are not paying U for it, that is UNCONSTITUTIONAL to ban people if they don't have a 'block' button for us to go unseen by those stalking creeps we don't have anything to do with. This is public is it not?? Apparently they are obeying the constitution by tolerating different religions, colors, and sexes. But when they get personal and violate privacy by judging them without a court of law, they are breaking the constitution. Go ask a Supreme court judge.

How does that prove that the Current staffers are spiteful or petty? Let's go over this again:
Everyone agrees to terms and conditions when they sign up on Current.
When people violate those terms, staff don't realize that unless the comment is flagged by another member. Once a comment is flagged, staff reviews it and decides whether or not it was a violation of community guidelines.
If it was, an email is sent to the user with specific information about what is in violation and the person can either edit the comment or it is deleted.
If you are flagged too many times, staff will suspend your account for 2 weeks or so.
If when you come back, you continue the behavior and your comments continue to be flagged, staff will remove you from the site.
It's really very simple; there's no conspiracy going on here, no bias, just the things we ALL AGREED TO when we signed up. Dig it:

I'm actually Kuffar. I've been banned about 15 times. Largely thanks to despicable snitches like fallen morgan. And I wouldn't harm a fly. I've contributed a lot to this site and generated many a stimulating debate. I've been a victim of the war against authentic free speech and open debate over and over again. I come back again and again because it serves no purpose to only participate on a mutual congratulation site where everybody understands the same thing. I enjoy a good scrap and like provoking others who have fallen into a stagnant complacency, shutting out new input. Above all, I like to share information and knowledge with those who have no access to it, because they have chosen only to associate and interact with those of like minds and views.
Now folks, just see how long I last after this sincere disclosure. If I'm banned toute suite , then you'll have the privilege of seeing small mindedness in action and a clear demonstration of a contempt for free speech.
Blame it on the advertisers if you wish.

What happened to this site... I remember when this site was about the people... freedom of speech... I hate the journalists (which most likely have nothing to do with the banning of individual users)...
I joke you, Current!
Personally, I'm relieved that jj has finally been banned from the site. Were his comments sometimes misinterpreted? Sure... at times. But just as often as they were misinterpreted they were also inherently over the line, bigoted, and misdirected. That coupled with the fact that he was REPEATEDLY warned by Current staff to tone it down warrants nothing less than an account suspension. An excerpt from a back and forth he and I had:
-Kanye West Takes Taylor Swift's Mic at MTV VMAs-
"Glad to see you think his behavoir is acceptable. And before you reply with OMG I didn't say it was. You sure the hell didn't say what he did was wrong. Had a 'white' person done it...you'd be calling them racist for doing so. Now that it's someone who isn't white doing it it's fine and the TV people should be happy. Nothing about how what he did was wrong to a country star. Typical."

FYI, if the recommend button doesn't come up and you have the ability, refresh the page and it should pop back up.

I think you have to reach level 3 on contributor badge to be able to recommend.

no, it seems to pick and choose which ones i can recommend in general. Sometimes its on, sometimes its off..... Certain artcles never give me the option no matter how many times i refresh the page

Yep same here there are somethings that just don't have that option. I don't know why maybe because current does not think they are worth it.

Oh yeah, I have that same problem sometimes. Just refresh your page until it pops up. It can take 2-3 times though.

I don't think it is deliberate, just a flaw in the system. Sometimes I have to refresh more than once as well.

And for everyone that thinks Jay is already back, he's not. He won't be coming back. Once he's banned he's done. One reason being that that's just the kind of person he is and the other being that he really really likes his username and couldn't see anything else being a match.

Ten bucks and a soda says that Jammer already started a 2nd account many moons ago,... and he's now checking out this Jammer-centric story!
It is kinda sorta bogus that he's been banned,... even though we don't know all of the details. And Nettle? Good on ya for this provocative, conversation-sparking post. - 2 years ago

The point that I think that all the defenders of jammer are blind to is this...In this country you are free to say whatever you wish,....however, you are not free from the consequences, everything you do comes with a price, not always paid with currency..for example, I can walk into a biker bar and shout " any prick who would ride a Harley is some Honda riders bitch boy...now I am free to say that , but what happens next is the consequence of my words..in other words the price I pay for my provoking them. Jammer was presented the bill and has simply paid the price for his provocations.

JJammer was never my "tag team" partner! I rarely even responded to his comments. You are all free to check this out. However, I did agree with him on many points. He at least was man enough to call a spade a spade! It is regretful that we lose such a vocal and well centered voice speaking for the opposition on certain issues. Without his voice, I can only hear baaaing, in the background.

Oh my, yes what will we do with out someone who would say anything to start a fight. Surely on the internet we will never see someone as truly outspoken as he! It was his voice only that spoke out against the masses.
Don't blow this out of proportions. There will be someone the exact same as him to fill his place immediately. He was just some antagonists who liked to start an argument just for the sake of arguing. He would bring up points that had nothing to do with the topic at hand because he knew it would piss people off. He went against the rules of the board which we all agreed to follow when signing up, was warned plenty of times, and was band for it. His story is not unique. There is no conspiracy behind it, it was a simple breaking of the rules.

I've been talking to other people about this and I have come to a conclusion. Some of these nasty talking people don't have any manners and their parents NEVER taught them to BE POLITE. That's the worse way to start a fight, or a war.
