J_Jammer bites the dust

Image

For all of you people who got caught up in frustrating arguments with J_Jammer, it seems as if your troubles are over. Another one bites the dust.

What were the reasons?
Was it justified?
Do you even care?

    • Perhaps they focused on him - but very probably, they focus on flagged posts.
Maybe this is the result of pissed off people pushing the button.

      good on with that.
but i have read your "arguments" before and please note the nutters comment.
      either way.
you deserve to be here and so does he.

all of us crazies need a place to exhaust arguments which are commonly lost in most day to day conversations.

yay! for censor ship, even on our own side.

    • I must be the newbie here that doesn't understand. I gave up on HuffPo a few months ago because my posts were first appearing on page 3 because someone had to look at each one and decide if they were clean enough to print. Meanwhile lobbiests were able to post 10 meaningless preapproved comments to my one halfway thoughtful one.

I had no problem with J Jammer even though we never agreed once. He challenged me several times. I appreciated it, thinking that it helped me elaborate.

I don't know why anyone would post personal attacks. If a personal attack is necessary to make a point, then the point is already lost.

Anyway, if this is as bad as Current.com gets then I'm fine with that.

Same here, but what I want to know is, what is to stop someone who is banned from reintroducing themselves as someone else, another avatar, another email, another IP address?

    • Uh...before we suggest that Jammer be considered for sainthood (Saint Jammer?) could we at least acknowledge that any one of us regulars could list several hundred (several thousand?) Jammer posts that were gratuitously offensive? Yes, every once in a while he made you stop and think...but the price of finding those nuggets of gold was wading through his contemptuous, dismissive and mindlessly goading responses. Even that, however, would be no excuse for booting him.

However, I have never been under the impression that Current boots people without good reason. I have had a few posts pulled...and I deserved what I got. But I have seen some pretty iffy stuff on this site from people who continue to post here nearly every day. THEY haven't been booted off. I gotta believe some serious lines were crossed. Please don't tell me you are surprised that Jammer crossed some serious lines. Repeatedly.

Could be,...just didn't happen to me. ("Serious pain in the ass" is not enough, methinks,..by itself) But I haven't seen a text preserved example that has swayed me from the "free speech over all" bias I tend to have. Evidence of malign intent/malice is the threshold for me.

I hear you, remanns. I am a firm believer in the Bill of Rights. My biggest case right now is a gender discrimination suit against a company that tried to limit access to persons of one gender. I also spent a couple of years blasting the Patriot Act in every forum I could find including interviews on public radio because I felt it infringed on freedom of speech/expression. But using your own standard, would you really be that surprised if Jammer was "intentionally malicious" on occasion?

Not at all,....but I would be looking for a "beyond the AVERAGE man" threshold. I really need to be sure he(or she) is more oppressor,....than oppressed. It certainly can be a close call when there are positions ,....if not in opposition,...than at least at crossed purposes. I tend to side with the gadfly,.......until he or she is shown to be part of an A-hole collective movement of some sort. IT REALLY IS-a "spirit and intent" dividing line,...unless you can make a case for the culprit being an "idiot dupe" or a shill for "hate or business" organizations, then a great deal of leeway should be given.

Heh. You don't need to apologize to ME for your spelling. I have my own spelling issues (e.g., "rein" vs. "reign") along with grammar so creative I fear it makes my college English professors spin in their graves...

Surprised it took so long . Just wondering if he is an example for those like him , or are they to be banned too . Maybe I haven't been around long enough to know how it works though . Also , the holidays are a stressful time for people . Timing could have been better . Since that little explosion , I hope people will type with care ....

notfooled, religion is a choice, not something you're born to. you can choose to worship the flying spaghetti monster in full pirate regalia if you wish, but it's not fundamentally a part of your dna. apparently it *is* ok to be prejudiced against gays/lesbians having equal rights around here as well, often in the form of saying " My God thinks those F*gs are a worthless waste of skin and want to indoctrinate our poor babies to their deviant lifestyle, just after they paint the living room fuchsia and burn our churches. they shouldn't marry!" well maybe not those exact words but that seems to be the gist of many of those arguments.

So these people that are born into muslim families that are killed for leaving 'the faith' is a choice ? Yeah some choice . P.S. I have never seen anyone on here say that GOD thought that anyone that was gay was a worthless piece of anything .

Well what is so different about that comment of Jammer and the comments currently being thrown around about Amanda Simpson the Transgendered appointee of Obama? The horrible things being said about her are IMHO worse than what Jammer said.

Also there are a lot of haters that come out against Gay Marriage, Homosexuality, Global Warming, and a lot of the partisan bantering is down right awful.

Personally I think some of the staff, and perhaps even the supervisors or managers had it in for Jammer. He has been on this website as long as I have.

I have been told by staff that some of my comments were flagged and told not to engage in personal attacks, and yet I see that type of thing happening all the time. I flag comments, but the staff seems to ignore me now when I do, because I made a point to flag instead of retaliate.

I agree with Nettle in that there does seem to be a standard that is inconsistently applied and that needs to be addressed here, if this website is going to retain any respectability.

Some other people who got banned from this site, and I don't understand why, were Maof4brats and Highr0ller. They never struck me as haters. They were confrontational but I can't recall them using personal attacks, slander, or insults.

I can totally understand Nettle's frustration, as I have shared it in the past.

I have taken a different posture here since all the banning has happened, just because I really like this forum, I think it has a lot of potential, but I too am very disappointed by the loss of the viewer created content, Viki, Current Hourly News reports, among other things.

Also I find some of the ads that appear on hear downright offensive to my POV, too.

There's some of my rantings of a crazy bitch, too.

    • He didn't do anything wrong, according to his last posts and in fact seemed pretty reasonable.

      I liked having him around.

At the end of the day, we deserve an explanation from the current staff. I don't know what he did, and I don't want to accidentally DO it and get banned from current on accident.

He was here when I started well over a year ago.

WE DESERVE AN EXPLANATION IF ANYONE IS BOOTED FROM OUR FORUM!!!!

" they should put a gun in his hand and some gold teeth in his mouth, that would be the black thing to do. " that was his comment on a thread about a nativity scene portraying a dark-skinned jesus. call me crazy, but i think that sounds slightly racist.

Who cares? Racism is another idea. Most people are somewhat colored by their race identification. I bet I could find a black person on here making a very similar comment about white people.

I'm sorry, but I don't think that is an offense that calls for banning.

    • My only real beef with Jammer was that one had to read 100 (200?) painfully shallow and/or completely illogical posts before finding a post that contained some nugget of truth or deeper meaning. He was exhausting...so I gave up and stopped reading his stuff months before he was escorted off the site.

    • Awe, J_Jammer had been at current for a long time. When I was taking care of my mother, bantering back and forth with him, took my mind off my own 'real' troubles. I don't know what he did, but many times he added to the mix of opinions.

One of the times I was censored at current, it was for bickering with J_Jammer. He did bring out some anger in me. But, I never felt it was serious enough for him to be banned.

I didn't see anything comment wise through his profile that was really that bad, but if it was bad enough for a ban it got removed. Hence, there would be nothing to see. I just heard someone mention it and decided to find out, as I had gotten into with him a little while ago, and sure enough, gone.

He WAS an instigator. BUT,...responsive,....he seemed to easily find the weakness is your fundamental stance on any given issue,.............and he 'raged about' bashing them. A berserker,.....smart berserker,...not "idiot berserker",....at the party. The party now has the requisite 'invited' guests,.........and no "CRASHERS",....and we are left the poorer for it.
And this time I am not being funny, nor is this really. ..........but slings n arrows n words into the wind with no ready mark must continue just for the sake of argument,.. questing a worthy target; No easy mark. I will miss the monster, bashing away at the padded cell,...yelling "HULK SHALL BE FREE"!

      Oh, crap.

Jammer was not just an instigator, he was deliberately insulting, and he meant it, from what he wrote.

And please don't tell me he had some magic way of zeroing in on the flaws in your argument, he was often just screwing with you because he wanted to keep the thread going, and his comments often made no sense at all, and I believe he often didn't care if they did.

And while he was good at avoiding the line most of the time, while being just as insulting as if he'd crossed it, he was quite capable of crossing it, as evidenced by Nettle's rant where she posted that one that got suspended.

The internet, and Current, is quite full enough of people with no manners and no thought of how to actually seriously debate a point, so I for one won't miss this one.
