Yeah...not buying the tiresome "we're just an entertainment channel" nonsense. Fox News trots that out because it wants to have its cake and eat it, too. The whole structure of the show -- including its name, Fox NEWS -- is intended to evoke the same look and feel as other news and information programs seen across all of the other networks. They are NEWS NEWS NEWS until they screw up and don't want to be accountable for that screw up, THEN all of a sudden they are an entertainment channel. Nice try. Granted, they are neither informative nor entertaining...but that is a matter for a separate post...or three...

I am particularly amused by Glenn Beck's profound and irrational fear of *communists*, as though this were the 1950s or something.

Independent analysis of Glen Beck's words show that he is without a doubt a liar and a fear mongerer. I don't know how anyone can take what he says seriously. It's really not all that hard to check for yourself. Knowing for a fact that Glen Beck is not honest, it's obvious to me that you who listens to what Beck says as gospel truth. BTW, I find Beck's comments about how private interprise hates government intervention to be pretty funny. In telecom, the few remaining massive Bell companies still operate under what is known as rate of return regulation. In other words, the government sets the phone rates so they recover every penny they invest plus a rate of return...generally somewhere in the 10-11% range (in other words a hell of a lot more than they would make on CDs, treasury bonds, etc). These are some of the biggest companies in the world -- and in nearly all states, the electric and natural gas distribution companies are even less competitive and more closely tied to "government intervention" than in the telecom industry...

The craziest thing Glenn did on this show was literally write "CHILDREN" down on the board when referring to China's workforce. Yes, China has had many issues with human rights and child labor, but to take the stance that America can't compete with China because China always uses a child workforce is ... I don't know what it is. Crazy? Insensitive? Certainly it's wrong!

EXCUSE me? You don't THINK he is talking about phone companies, etc and based on your speculation (for which you don't have a shred of evidence) you think I am being dishonest...or more accurately that I "prefer" to be dishonest. Such penetrating analysis, Monty!
My point is that private enterprise DEPENDS on government intervention. And that is the case in most industries. Even if a small business, for example, does not want to complete the small mountain of paperwork required just to do payroll and taxes in modern America, they still depend on government intervention to ensure that big business does not engage in predatory practices to put them out of business.
Those in the financial services industry rely on the threat of lawsuits for insider trading to keep others in their industy (relatively) honest. Those in the farming business rely on government crop insurance programs and government subsidies to keep them from going under as a result of periodic hailstorms or floods and to ensure that agricultural land is allowed to regain its fertility by lying fallow for periods of time.
Government intervention helps grocers to have confidence that the food on their shelves will not sicken their customers and result in lawsuits that would put them out of business. The examples go on and on.
I certainly don't have any problem with you loving Beck. It's a free country. But the guy couldn't think his way out of a wet paper bag...

delia i know it's offensive that china uses child labor but that doesn't change the fact that it is true, they do use children and they don't pay them well.
Cz these companies have no choice but to play ball with government, their lives depend on it since the government issues them terretories where they can operate and regulates how much they can make. The Govnment then takes a piece of the action.
If you think this is great for business, customers, and the economy then maybe your stuck in a wet paper bag. - 2 years ago

its hard to debate anything Glenn Beck has to say as he is incapable of the truth, Glenn Beck is an populist with conservatives who see liberal conspiracy around every corner.

1. lacking or having lost life, sharpness, or flavor; insipid; flat: vapid tea.
2. without liveliness or spirit; dull or tedious: a vapid party; vapid conversation.I have read some 500+ of Delia's comments since January of 2009. I am afraid I must concur that one of them was vapid. The REST, however, were not.

I would have them debate in a conference call on Skype (free to download Skype and the call is free between Skype users) and then record the debate using Pamela (also a free add-on to Skype) and THEN post the entire exchange on Current as a podcast.

I must bow to Slarabee's research. It appears that the use of the term "red cent" predates the minting on the 1859 Indian Head penny, by 15 -20 years. Although, I am still suspicious that the conversion from "copper" to "red cent", is very coincidental to the subjugation of the Native Americans, when a penny was the only currency they could afford.

MoonLoon is probably right since it was pretty much the opposite of what I was referring to.
What I meant was that the cycle of fashion by be evolving back to a more Rubenesque style as in Plump or fleshy and voluptuous. Like it was in the 1600's when Peter Paul Rubens was a prolific seventeenth-century Flemish Baroque painter.
http://www.peterpaulrubens.org/101305/The-Hermit-and-the-Sleeping-Angelica-1626-...
But that re-education of the youth idea does sound pretty good. Would you accept a hot Russian in place of a Scandinavian? Marina already has a pretty good head start on it in her wildly popular HotForWords videos.
If she is heading up the revolution then I'm all for it since the people would be a lot more informed and entertained than now.

Well it is hard to be long legged and rubenesque at the same time since gravity usually prevents that.
Marina is long legged but not twiggy-esque either so maybe that is the happy medium the revolution should be based on right?
At the very least the youth would have a better vocabulary to express themselves with which would be a vast improvement that would be worth over the present state of affairs

The reason the debate is about Glenn Beck is based on a post where Ihatethemall (Who hates THEM all, not THE MALL, but the mall is annoying too I suppose!) openly challenged anyone- ANYONE- to watch the Glenn Beck show and prove what he's saying wrong.
I accepted. Anyone could have.
I'm not surprised to have Jan show up and call it pathetic, or any of the other bitching and moaning, and of course you are entitled to your bitching and moaning, but think about the underlying themes of this debate.
It's not just about Glenn Beck, it's about the American media, politics and divides between political parties. It's about stereotypes vs real information, propaganda vs fact checking.
If you don't think that's important, what is? We can't blast the MSM yet not have the information, time or guts to back up our complaints.

A few others and myself have a valid point, this type of thing isn't all that productive to what the site is about. We already debate on here, read the threads.
I thought Current was about issues and causes, or information you think people might have an interest in. If Current continues to break down to this level of social media, no one will need asked to leave...
