I thought the title was Delia The Artist vs. IHateThemAll? Where's the debate? Where are IHateThemAll's comments?

Yeah...not buying the tiresome "we're just an entertainment channel" nonsense. Fox News trots that out because it wants to have its cake and eat it, too. The whole structure of the show -- including its name, Fox NEWS -- is intended to evoke the same look and feel as other news and information programs seen across all of the other networks. They are NEWS NEWS NEWS until they screw up and don't want to be accountable for that screw up, THEN all of a sudden they are an entertainment channel. Nice try. Granted, they are neither informative nor entertaining...but that is a matter for a separate post...or three...

Quality control? They have none and they know we'll buy their junk anyway.

what's to debate? glen beck is an entertainer. Faux news is an entertainment channel. that being said, who is the moderator? there have got to be rules otherwise we would all end up so far off the topic there would be no recollection of where ever it was we began.

Montesooma- you're opinion is similar to Ihatethemall, that's how this whole debate got brought up in the first place! ihate wanted someone not to just say 'Glenn Beck sucks', but specifically dispute the points he's making with facts.

I find it amuuuuuuzing that many of his detractors are people who visit huffington post and take everything they read there as gospel truth.
Its like pig telling a horse that he stinks, the horse is not likely to take the pig seriously.

I think Ihate will start tomorrow. His schedule is different than mine and he said he'd probably be able to start Friday evening. I just wanted to get all of my stuff up there and ready to go; all arguments are now presented for him to review and counter!

BTW, I find Beck's comments about how private interprise hates government intervention to be pretty funny. In telecom, the few remaining massive Bell companies still operate under what is known as rate of return regulation. In other words, the government sets the phone rates so they recover every penny they invest plus a rate of return...generally somewhere in the 10-11% range (in other words a hell of a lot more than they would make on CDs, treasury bonds, etc). These are some of the biggest companies in the world -- and in nearly all states, the electric and natural gas distribution companies are even less competitive and more closely tied to "government intervention" than in the telecom industry...

its hard to debate anything Glenn Beck has to say as he is incapable of the truth, Glenn Beck is an populist with conservatives who see liberal conspiracy around every corner.
We liberals have no need to listen to his horseshit. its not even listening to logical conservatives. Pat Buchanan is at least logical in his own weird sort of way. His last editorial was actually right on target regarding Al Qaeda.

Oh...and that comment was gratuitously mean, by the way. I would rather be vapid (as, admittedly, I frequently am).

I have read some 500+ of Delia's comments since January of 2009. I am afraid I must concur that one of them was vapid. The REST, however, were not.

I'm a big fan of doing it live (skype, blogtv). Perhaps we could even get a twitter hashtag going as well so those not participating can voice their opinions as the debate is going on.

It would only be interesting if there was concensus that either Delia or ihatethemall had any sort of expertise. I've read too many of Delia's vapid comments elsewhere to think there will be any substance or insight there.

I don't know about ihatethemall, so no comment there.

I would have them debate in a conference call on Skype (free to download Skype and the call is free between Skype users) and then record the debate using Pamela (also a free add-on to Skype) and THEN post the entire exchange on Current as a podcast.

Or is that what you're already doing?

Because it sounds like the debate will be on Current via posts which, eh, is not as much fun as a live debate.

Actually Slarabee you were one of the first people that talked to me about a debate idea; we were thinking some kind of vids which is a cool idea too. This is a good experiment that has potential to grow if it's relevant!

I like the responses this post has elicited, both good and bad, i hope this encourages people to come up with their own ideas to shape current into whatever they want it to be

I guess I might have more sympathy for those who decry how much attention this thread is getting if it weren't for the fact that I am pretty confident that just about everybody commenting on it is also commenting on at least a half dozen other threads as well right now. This isn't consuming anybody's full attention. It is just kind of a fun little concept that may or may not go anywhere.

The reason the debate is about Glenn Beck is based on a post where Ihatethemall (Who hates THEM all, not THE MALL, but the mall is annoying too I suppose!) openly challenged anyone- ANYONE- to watch the Glenn Beck show and prove what he's saying wrong.

I accepted. Anyone could have.

I'm not surprised to have Jan show up and call it pathetic, or any of the other bitching and moaning, and of course you are entitled to your bitching and moaning, but think about the underlying themes of this debate.

It's not just about Glenn Beck, it's about the American media, politics and divides between political parties. It's about stereotypes vs real information, propaganda vs fact checking.

If you don't think that's important, what is? We can't blast the MSM yet not have the information, time or guts to back up our complaints.

Whatever, the complainers have every right to express their opinions. Everyone else is on here pushing everything from sodomy to heroin, and it's usually tolerated if not appreciated (so is this garbage).

A few others and myself have a valid point, this type of thing isn't all that productive to what the site is about. We already debate on here, read the threads.

I thought Current was about issues and causes, or information you think people might have an interest in. If Current continues to break down to this level of social media, no one will need asked to leave...
