Meet Mikey Hicks, 8, on US Terror Watch List

“Meet Mikey Hicks,” said Najlah Feanny Hicks, introducing her 8-year-old son, a New Jersey Cub Scout and frequent traveler who has seldom boarded a plane without a hassle because he shares the name of a suspicious person. “It’s not a myth.”
Michael Winston Hicks’s mother initially sensed trouble when he was a baby and she could not get a seat for him on their flight to Florida at an airport kiosk; airline officials explained that his name “was on the list,” she recalled.
The first time he was patted down, at Newark Liberty International Airport, Mikey was 2. He cried.
After years of long delays and waits for supervisors at every airport ticket counter, this year’s vacation to the Bahamas badly shook up the family. Mikey was frisked on the way there, then more aggressively on the way home.
“Up your arms, down your arms, up your crotch — someone is patting your 8-year-old down like he’s a criminal,” Mrs. Hicks recounted. “A terrorist can blow his underwear up and they don’t catch him. But my 8-year-old can’t walk through security without being frisked.”
It is true that Mikey is not on the federal government’s “no-fly” list, which includes about 2,500 people, less than 10 percent of them from the United States. But his name appears to be among some 13,500 on the larger “selectee” list, which sets off a high level of security screening.
At some point, someone named Michael Hicks made the Department of Homeland Security suspicious, and little Mikey is still paying the price. (His father, also named Michael Hicks, was stopped for the first time on the Bahamas trip.)"
FYI: The underwear bomber was a complete set-up in order to get naked body scanners at airports. They were signed, sealed and ready to be delivered months and even years ago. They just needed the event that would send the masses calling for their rights to be further violated in the name of safety.
Eyewitnesses, including Kurt Haskell and others have stated that they witnessed the Nigerian being led through security by a well-dressed man and was being videotaped the entire flight. The man even told the airport agents in Copenhagen that he was a Sudanese refugee and they do this all the time (cut lines w/o going through security). LOOK IT UP!!!!!!

This is really funny. In a really sad way. You would think that someone would be smart enough to say, "Hey, this kid is clearly not the guy on the watch list. Let him on board with out being violated." But no. No one is willing to make any important judgment calls. I've seen it before in the Marine Corps. This is our job so we are just going to take order no matter how crazy they are. Its messed up. Lets get some people with some balls to make an important judgment call.

Maybe this kid should consider changing his name. Actually, I too have had dealings with the police mistaking me as someone else. This guy had the same name as I, different middle name, and had a lot of warrants out. Luckily though for me he finally was arrested and I could go on living my life.

You know, I stopped looking at the comments on this website because I grew weary of pompous assholes constantly trying to "one up" each other about who was the better liberal. So, I come back to see if anything has changed, and I see that pure idiots have joined the ranks of the pompous assholes.
You really should go back and reread what your comment stated. Sure, there are worse things, but this is a pain in the ass to deal with and completely asinine on the part of HS. I agree with the comment at the beginning of this thread - we are in fact run by a confederacy of dunces, and it only continues to worsen. Maybe you should run for public office?

Poor little lad, doesn't really deserve this hassle. Surely the other Mikey Hicks wouldn't give his own name anyway if he were boarding planes.

Yea the whole watch list thing is a pain in the ass, every time my dad goes to get a gun the background checks take forever because someone on the terrorist watch list has the same name as him, and when my brother (same name as dad) went to london he was put on thier terrorist watch list. It really ridiculous at this point that someone with such a common name as "Mike Hicks" gets frisked every time he wants to go on a plane.

Its because their hasn't been enough time for that sort of thing to foment.
Getting people to suicide their lives for a cause takes a considerable amount of brainwashing.

ugh, why would terrorists even care about airplanes anyway??? why go through all the hassle of getting through security with explosives when it's a million times easier to set off an explosive device on a bus or a train?? it's like both sides of this war, the DHS and the terrorists are both retarded if they think that an airplane somehow makes sense as a terrorist target in this day and age now that a terrorist can no longer assume the controls of a plane to turn it into a missile.
Not that I want to give anyone any ideas, but buses or trains or churches make much more sense as targets. It would be wonderful if the government realized this before the terrorists do.

I for one wouldn't feel safe with that Dennis on my flight. He looks like the kind that would keep kicking the back of your seat the whole flight. At least with real terrorists, you'd go quickly and not suffer.
As for similar names, my uncle had that trouble a couple of years ago as well in sharing a name with someone on the high profile list.

this post does not imply that customs officials are pedophiles or that the news of such is common and old as your "what else is new?" implies - unless you just misused that phrase.
For example -
"Bush made a mistake."
retort - "what else is new?" which goes to say that Bush making mistakes is common thing.but your usage is like -
"The moon crashed into Europe!"
"what else is new?"See? Doesn't make sense. Maybe if you had written - "not surprised!" or "are they hiring pedos over there? Who pats down a 2 year old?" - that would have made more sense.

How a two year old could be frisked but the underwear bomber, who was on a no-fly list and said was too dangerous to let fly, ... well it's all been said before.

I am so confused that the system in place uses names as its primary matching criteria for terrorist identification. I guess with my unique name I should consider myself lucky. I believe I am the only Christoph Jeff Micklon in the entire world, if it is otherwise I sure would want to know who else has the same name.
In any case the officer that had to stop, Mikey Hicks from getting on a plane must have felt rather stupid. Seeing an 8 year old kid and then comparing it to the watch list must have made the officer shake their head.
For all our safety, our open style government is doing its best. Just remember that it is damn difficult to keep our freedoms in place and the public safe at the same time!

haha. clearly there is no winning here American government, people will fault you for what you do no matter what. Security should only be for Arabs right? Procedure is procedure and if its a big deal when planes get attacked, which despite their low casualties it really seems to be, than this is what people have to deal with. Seriously, there are worse things. This kid and his mother just have a 'story' now. Drive to your destination if you have such an issue with it.

The late Senator Ted Kennedy was on the no-fly list, he revealed in 2004. Well, not him - but his name, which is apparently "the same thing". http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A17073-2004Aug19.html The Senator and the kid are not the only controversial cases. Wikipedia has a list of a few of them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Fly_List#False_positives_and_other_controversial...

Well, I read the "well dressed man" story but there have been a couple cases in the past where someone spoke to blogs and told them they stood up to/for something on a plane - and it turned out they were never there.
While I have not seen conformation of that guy's story, I think we all read what happened in Newark when a guy stepped out of line. The airport shut down - http://www.cnn.com/2010/US/01/03/new.jersey.airport.breach/

Does this kid look like a terrorist to you? Perhaps if HS wasn't busy frisking/molesting 8 year old children, we might have a better chance of catching Santa Claus...er, I mean...Osama bin Laden.
