A revolutionary new machine that converts office paper into toilet paper (video)

"Forget the iPad, this has to be one of the coolest inventions I’ve seen in awhile. A Japanese company has created the “White Goat”, a machine that takes unwanted office paper and transforms it into toilet paper!

The machine simply requires paper, which it shreds into a pulp, and water (about 2.5-4 gallons every other day) to create one roll of toilet paper in about 30 minutes. 40 sheets of A4 office paper goes into one roll, and that even includes documents with print on them. By using the White Goat, Oriental says that you could save 60 cedar trees a year."...

    • i have a hard time imaging that, it takes 60 cedar trees a year to wipe an american butt. that would mean that about 18 billion cedars go south every year. nah it can't be that much.
i never knew it was cedars, they're sacred in my culture. thank the stars that i don't use the stuff. you know that most of the world considers t.p. filthy and extraordinarily wasteful. it is much, much healthier to wash, a lot less bacteria and feces spread around. when i go to a.a. meetings it's a big deal to shake hands and i know i'm getting crap on my hands, that's ok, i've learned to not touch my face until i can wash my hands.
to more than half the world americans are considered untouchable because of t.p.. for the sake of your health and the health of those you touch learn how to clean yourself.
i'm shocked to here it's cedars, what other disgrace has the white culture inflicted upon us that i don't know about. look at what's been done to tobacco, once sacred, it used to be that only the truth could be spoken with smoke in your mouth and smoke carried our prayers to the sky. what the hell is next, am i to find out that my favorite fast food is made from the tears of abused eagles? f#ck is shit like this done on purpose?

It saves energy in a few ways though, being that no new material has to be made (i.e. cut down AND ship lumber)
as compared to recycled materials it saves the energy of transporting the paper to a recycling plant and the energy of distributing the toilet paper that the office would otherwise use as well as the new content consumed in making toilet paper.

yes it does take energy, but clearly a very, very tiny fraction of the usual.
exciting product, we need more simple ideas like this to become part of everyday life at offices, could make quite a difference.

    • Recycling places should totally invest in having one of these. Go in with old paper that you don't need and hey you get a roll of tissue paper. That seems like a win-win situation to me.
