retard retard retard. oh my bad. like that is the worst thing to call anyone....
why is it such a big deal? maybe her and hubby should have done a proceedure....doesn't anyone else know that you shouldn't have kids after like 35-37? why???? basic biology. not saying she should have gotten rid of the baby, but maybe taken steps to prevent it. then she would not have this percieved issue with a word.
i am on birth control b/c if i get preggers with my anti-depressants i could have one just like her. - 1 year ago

When a person lets words bother them they are indeed weak minded. Its the very reason when people call me names I hardly ever respond, I do sometimes but its not because they called me a name its because they are stupid and make unintelligent statements not backed up with fact or figures.
thers mics and spics and kikes and niggers and wops with noses as long as your arm theres gooks and chinks and honkies who never left the farm did I miss anyone Firesign theater 1978 that was actually funny shit before political correctness came into being.
And I,m no Archie Bunker for those of you too young to know Archie insulted everyone.
I am a mic who married a jew and hosted a marrige reception at my house for a black freind who married a white Irish girl.Get over the words its deeds that prove who you are

Colbert should have known better. The R word is extremely offensive to people with disabilities, their families, and their friends. When you use the word "Retarded", you display ableism, discrimination against people with disabilites.

Then why would it be "ok" for Rush Limbaugh to say it and not Colbert?
Double standards abound when one is defended for it and two others are not.

She probably feels entitled to use it because her son has Down Syndrome, because she feels like she "understands" the word beyond the contemporary. The real problem is that she is defending someone like Limbaugh, who is using it in directly to offend.

violintastic:
That was the whole point that Colbert was making that the problem was that she was defending Limbaugh so, it should be just the same when Colbert used it in the same way. That was the only reason he used it in the forst place.
It either proves the statement that Colbert used about her if she didn't realize the contradiction she was making by applying that double standard.
Or just highlights her hypocrisy and selfishness that she gets to choose who can use it and who can't. It only shows that she doesn't care who is offended even if her child is suffering because she only wants what advantages she can use from it to score some political points

Get over it. The word "retard" means slow. ie. The wind retarded the motion of the boat. So I don't really see what the problem is; people with mental handicaps technically are mentally slow. If you take offense to someone telling the truth, then you don't actually have a problem with the words they said, you have a problem with accepting reality.

mindcruzer:
In current psychiatric practice, the term “mental retardation” is a medical definition determined by impairment and limitations in adaptive functioning in the areas of communication, self-care, social activities, academics, and many other areas of observation. The term is used so broadly in contemporary conversation that usage is no longer based primarily on assumptions about specific behaviors of people who have mental retardation – just the general assumption that retardation is bad, something to be avoided, and things, ideas or people described as retarded should be excluded from the attention of non-retarded people. When you or someone refers to something that is bad, uninteresting, not worth your time, etc and says "retarted", you share the assumption that someone who has a mental disability is bad, uninteresting, not worth your time, etc.

violintastic:
I'm not sure what your trying to prove here, but my point still stands. Mental retardation IS bad. The fact that some people can't see that is solely because of their feelings toward that particular individual due to him/her being your son/daughter or sibling. Just because one might have strong feelings towards someone does not change facts. This is still an acceptance issue whether you like it or not. And the reason they used retarded in mental retardation is because retard means slow, clearly.
-

-
mindcruzer:
The word implies that the mentally disabled are bad. Not just the disability, but the person who has the disability. It is not just the word that is hurtful; it is that the word implies that the person being referenced is a lesser than being. And you're right, in one definition the word "retard" it means slow, but like my previous response, it is also a medical definition. Most of the people who use the word "retard" don't refer to something being slowed, like the definition you refer to, but use it to mean ableist things.

No, I think Pig is on to something there. One should never, ever, underestimate the power of stupidity...especially where large crowds are concerned. Both so-called liberals, conservatives, and various third-party wannabes have demonstrated this quite well in the past.

Apparently she is only offended when people she doesn't like use it, like Rahm Emanuel, but when Rush Limbaugh uses it then she is ok with it.
That kind of "selective taking of offense" is par for the course in her standards like saying "a charismatic guy with a teleprompter" right before she reads notes off of her hand.
Since she's so "mavericky," she doesn't have to follow rules that she says others should and she gets to pick and choose who should follow them.

Hey donf3lipe,
The issue isn't with us, it is with Comedy Central. They just want you to watch the full episode ... here's a comment from a user on the Comedy Central page that was equally confused when posting to facebook. The Sarah Palin bit comes up #3.

That's a good tip, but this user clipped directly to a l ink from Comedy Central.
For me to change it, without asking or without warning, would be a violation of my own personal code of ethics ... no matter the fact that HULU seems to have an arrangement to play these segmented clips.
The real issue to me, Ras, is simply that the information he has presented to the community in the description field is false. Still, whether this user cares to change it is not up to me. All I can do is set the record straight and hope for the best.
Regardless, your actions demonstrate the very best aspect of online communities and social networking. (At least when it comes to helping others to get the information out.)
Cheers, and thanks for caring. Onward!

Yes he did. But it was, by Palin's own definition, used in the context of sarcasm, so that makes it all fine and dandy as far as Republican logic goes.
See, when God-fearing folks like Uncle Rush use euphemisms to describe their opponents (weather it's in the context of race, sexual deviancy, or in this case, the lack of mental capacity), it's always "in good fun" and usually based on a "fair and balanced" point of view.
When so-called Liberals do it they commit verbal hate crimes that expose their ignorance and disconnection from the will of the "common folk."
Orwell would be so proud.
