Bill Maher Says You're Too Stupid to Understand the Issues

rodstradamus
Either Bill Maher was doing his best effort to impersonate Mel Brooks as King Louis XVI in “History in the World, Part I” or he has a complete and utter disregard for the intellectual competency of the American people.

Maher, a perennial bomb thrower with a hard left ideology appeared on CNN’s Feb. 16 “Larry King Live,” facing the king of softball interviews, Larry King, and let it be known he thought alleged terrorism plotter Khalid Sheikh Mohammed should be tried in New York City and that health care should be forced through by the Obama administration, despite the wishes of the American people.

And why should the American people’s wishes be ignored? They’re “not bright enough.”

Before I broke out of the left/right paradigm, I watched Real Time w/Bill Maher "religulously." Even before that, I always supported Politically Incorrect and his stand up. Don't get me wrong, he is very funny and I agree with him on a lot of issues, but the bottom line is: he's a fake radical, paid to control the far left and denounce 9/11 Truth, so they won't wake up.

His rhetoric is witty, edgy and hip with a spin to appeal to the "cool" yuppies. Sure, a lot of Americans are fat, stupid and lazy and completely brainwashed by the NWO, but if they woke up to 9/11, maybe they'd take control of their lives and help reclaim this country. Bill Maher's job is to make sure his audience doesn't do that. He's paid to keep you in line. Hey Bill, just b/c you smoke pot doesn't make you cool; you're a puppet.

    • True intelligence is being able to give a clear and persuasive argument to convince others of the truth of your convictions. If you can only berate those who disagree with you, then you are probably the stupid one. Read your fuckin Aristotle.

Bill Maher is neither a liar nor a fake. He's not a politician. He is a comedian who is extremely astute and straight forward. Because of his honest opinions he's considered to be politically incorrect which is a title he treasures. No telling what realitybytes problem is but it's certainly not his clear thinking.

so your saying that comedians dont lie? or maybe you believe everything you hear on TV. And also, having an honest opinion doesn't make you politically incorrect. Saying what people will not or dont ant to hear because its not PC makes it Politically incorrect.

"so your saying that comedians don't lie?" is quiet a generalization so no, I'm not saying that. I'm saying that since his show several years ago, "Politically Correct", I've watched him and appreciate his dry wit and his courage to tell it like it is. He can be a little harsh at times so naturally he offends some people, however I've never caught him misrepresenting the facts. So if you don't like Maher you're probably not alone but I and many others like and agree with him. Maybe you don't like him because he offends you but when you call someone a liar you need to prove your case.

    • I think that there are many people in America (and OTHER countries) that base their political opinions on emotional reactions rather than information - but who can blame them when there is a campaign of vapidity controlling our media in general? People are willing to learn if you give them a chance... Not everyone gets paid to gobble, Bill. ;-)

    • The conspiracy theorists rise again. The 911 Truth? Get real.

Maher is right about religion. He is right about the general intelligence level of the American Public.

Honestly now, how many people do you know personally, that are just plain fucking stupid? I know/have come across, a whole shitload of people that I am amazed can even function in society. It's not a matter of education for a lot of them (although some are capable of learning, a whole bunch are not), it's just a level of understanding of what is going on around them, completely oblivious.

    • What, people are sensitive to this claim all of the sudden? I have one thing to say to that, the popularity of Sarah Palin. End of discussion.

A lot of Americans (hopefully not most) are fucking retarded beyond any hope of repair or salvage. This is not news and it's not even controversial.

As George Carlin put it, "Say what you want about America, I love it and I'd never have it any other way, but there are some dumb motherfuckers in this country."

Untrue. There are more VOTES for American Idol, but that does not mean there are more VOTERS. Since in American Politics it is one person, ONE vote and in American Idol it is one person, AS MANY VOTES AS THEY CAN CAST in an hour. The math does not support that more PEOPLE vote for American Idol, only that more votes are cast.

Sorry, just wanted to clarify a misconception that I too had.

    • Since "Stupidity" is a subjective term, who is to say whether or not the public is too stupid? Are they stupid when they do not fall in line with Nancy Pelosi? A woman who wears a suit that cost more than the average YEARLY income of her constituency? A woman who has done nothing but "serve" in Public Office since she graduated from College? I am not saying she is not trustworthy, but carreer politicians are inherently corrupt. That is how a system will work that does not limit lifetime total terms.

To the rest of the world:
Education is the key to fixing this fault and thankfully Dems have included tax cuts as a pseudo tuition reimbursement for secondary education. Thanks to this application of the Stimulus, I was able to finish college and still afford food.

America is overrun by a blinding sense of patriotism that makes the average citizen/sheep easily herded in which ever direction the talking heads on TV care to send them. This patriotism is instilled by movies, lowest common denominator politicians(Palin Palin Palin!!!) and an unspoken racial biased against the current President; that drives the average citizen to believe that EVERYTHING is OWED to them, that the American Dream is their sovereign RIGHT and that the only reason that they do not have it is because of foreigners diluting revenues or the radical Left Wing Conspiracy.

The moment the inbreed south, the spoon-fed north and the pipe dream west begins taking personal responsibility for their lives, their careers, their education and their piece of the American Dream; we will see a change in America, and not a moment sooner.

While I agree with a lot of your sentiment, especially the secondary education issues. The idea that Bill Maher is pushing is that of a Benevolent Dictator, which in the end is a Dictator. NOT one single Dictator has ever ended Benevolent. It belies his own intelligence to support such a concept, that HE can decide for ME because he is smarter. This makes him a Dictator, and historically evidenced, this makes it evil and NOT in the best interest of the people at all.

You hit the nail on the head. EDUCATION, for those of us who agree with concepts like Universal Healthcare, Free Secondary Education, it is up to us to EDUCATE those others. Persuasion is always preferable to coercion. To force others to do a thing shows a limited intelligence and even less patience on our part. Rather than a lack of intelligence on another's.

I don't know if you're being serious or not but think of how children all over the world, even in the jungles of Africa, are having access to the rest of the world. People in third world countries who would never have had the opportunity for an education are now graduating from universities via the Internet. The current generation of elders are able to stay in touch with others while keeping up with instant national, local and world news. The list goes on and so yes, I believe that the computer and the Internet is already a wonder drug against ignorance and it's just the beginning.

Reading your response I'm reminded of those new commercials where Ellen Page (Juno) is going around what seems to be her hometown and is seeing how technology is advancing the lives of the people there. The problem is we all know damn well that crap on those ads is far from average across most of America, much less the jungles of Africa. Even with the far more extensive internet access that we have here we still have hellacious numbers of people who can't name their own senators (there's just too many), find Massachusetts on a map, or think Fox News is fair and balanced. But, truth be told, I am a bit of a pessimist. Even wonder drugs don't work for everybody.

The internet is the best invention for free porn and that's about it. Oh, and pirated music/movies/tv shows too. Other than that, it's mainly just opinions floating out there disguised as truth. Most people don't know where to look for good information, so I doubt it's the wonderful cure-all to human stupidity. The fact is, most people are stupid. Just because most people have the ability to be rational doesn't mean all people exercise it. Furthermore, there are just a lot of people who don't have this ability to begin with. That leaves a situation where the strong-minded dominate. That's the way it is and the way it will always be.

Actually I would guess that Americans might be a little less ignorant than the rest of the world because of our wealth giving us more access to education and information over the past century. Also we have our political corruption but that is rampant over the rest of the world, sometimes too a higher degree. But while world wide stupidity and gullibility concerns me it's the uninformed and misinformed American listening too and helping to spread the hate and ignorance that Maher is talking about that makes me feel depressed and somewhat hopeless. How can we change this while so much attention and power is given too the politicians and conservative radicals who control the podiums and the airways? How can we make America less stupid than Maher has observed it too be?

The slave-holders are getting real picky about who does what work so that even jobs at Walmart require that one already know the job, or will get better with little time. Everyone must be a picture of health. Over 40 better be good at what they do. Jobs at the bottom require a good looking youth. People over 40 better have money for a face lift when they need it.

As a general rule most people do not think profoundly enough to seperate factual from fictional information. That's why education is so important. It teaches us to challenge conventional thought and come to intelligent decisions. In this respect most undereducated and brain-washed Americans are easily swayed and ignorant of facts. In other words the greater portion of the population are intellectually incompetent or as Maher puts it, "stupid".

Weren't we all on that airplane as it crashed into that corrupt and heartless government bureaucracy? He just happened to be our pilot. Thanks for suggesting it. I'll read it again although it's depressing and scary because it states the sad truth about our country. I didn't see in the article if he was hurt or not. It just said 3 people were injured. If he wasn't killed he probably will wish he was by the time the government gets through with him. A collection should be taken up across the country to pay for his legal defense.

Note to others: If you don't want to watch this boring video, click thru to almost half-way and begin watching. The person who uploaded this video to Youtube took the liberty of adding sticky notes at around that point, spinning their *opinion* to the public.

ibrake, the two concerns that both you and the uploader of this video have seem to be:

1.) That Obama's speech had 1-2 minutes of introduction and setting of context before the message of the speech was delivered.
[That's how speeches go. Given the fact that you hate Obama, had he eliminated the introduction, you would be crying that his speech was too short.]

2.) That Obama shouldn't have spoken from Washington, but should've flown to Texas and delivered the speech from Ft. Hood.
[Why should he have gone there? What good would it have done? Should he get on a plane and visit every crisis? Don't you think it may have been *dangerous* for a President to visit an armed base where shootings have just taken place????]

Its laughable at best while providing "news" that is simply entertainment. They skip the real issues and smile and nod at the lies they are spoon fed by politicians. If you want real news check the BBC. Sure its dry and boring but they have this crazy little thing called fact checking...

The list of 'who cares' is too long to list, yet they spin them anyway. People actually talk about such irrelevant subjects, as though it has anything to do with them, or America. It's amazing how people are willing to be spun, by titillating nonsense.
