American: The Bill Hicks Story trailer makes it online

The tragic death of renegade comedian Bill Hicks, at just 32, cut short the career of one of the most influential, distinct (and in my opinion, impressive) voices in comedy. Hicks was a passionate, self-styled preaching comedian whose act was built on conviction and set him apart from other stand-ups.

His life and comedy has already been the subject of some very good documentaries and it'll be interesting to see what the latest, the upcoming 'American: The Bill Hicks Story' can add. From the promising trailer, which appears to be exclusive to Empire at the moment (so unembedable), it looks like it'll be worth a watch to find out.

    • I can not express my gratitude for Bill Hicks existence in any way that would do it justice. He said things that I thought in a way that made me jealous and awed. His death was profoundly sad to me as well as a jump start to my already overactive paranoia. His genius was dangerous.

      In a perfect world, his routines would be required viewing. Classes revolving around discussion of those routines would be mandatory for all high school students. We do not live in a perfect world.

    • All well and good, but it's no substitute for watching him perform or listening to his words. If anything, I hope this documentary succeeds in introducing a new generation to what really dangerous comedy can accomplish when done right.

      Imagine how different this world might be if those in that hallowed one percent that held all the riches and power had to contend with thousands of Bill Hick's prodigies...

      All hail the Goat-Boy!!
