Falling Through the Rabbit Hole in XD

I recently had the opportunity to check out Alice in Wonderland in “XD: Extreme Digital” at Century 20 in Daly City. This proved to be one of them most pleasant movie experiences I have had in a long time; I can’t wait for the next time I watch an XD movie.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by a friendly manager, who was kind enough to give me some of the background on the theatre and the renovations they made last November for the release of Twilight. Admittedly, I was a bit skeptical—I had not yet seen the screen or the theatre it was in. I walked in and immediately took notice of the vastly upgraded screen, and the copious amount of speakers circling the seats. JBL audio made a custom sound system for the XD theatre and the effort paid off, as not only was my visual sense stimulated, but also my aural. The screen literally went from “wall-to-wall” as the advertisements and the friendly manager claimed. The seats had been upgraded to leather too, meaning no more numb backsides to distract you from the onscreen action. According to Cinemark’s website, three of their theatres are sporting XD screens, and several more are opening this coming spring.
