Ellington is living in a fantasy world if he thinks our kids are being taught tolerance. also, for the record, even customers can access the PA systems if they're not idiots, so it could just as easily have been a customer that did it, not a Wal-Mart employee. i don't care either way i just thought the point should be made that they're assumptions may be wrong
Wal-Mart officials are looking at security tapes after an announcement was made for "all black people'' to leave a store in South Jersey.
A man used the public-address system at the Route 42 store in Washington Township Sunday night and calmly announced: "Attention Wal-Mart customers: All black people leave the store now.''
Patricia Covington and Shelia Ellington were inside the store when it happened and told the Courier Post that customers and store employees looked stunned when they heard it.
"In 2010, I want to know why such statements are being made because it flies in the face of what we teach them [our kids] at home, and that's tolerance for people," said Ellington.
Ellington and other customers let store management and police know they were upset.
They asked the store to use the same announcement system to apologize to customers that night, which it did.
Wal-Mart management called the incident "unacceptable," and said it's working to make sure nothing like this happens at any other stores.
Washington Township police and the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office are investigating the incident as a possible bias crime.
"I can't believe it in this day and age," Covington told the paper. "Wal-Mart needs to be more responsible."
Covington and Elllington are boycotting the store.

well actually walmart is anyone who makes less than 40-50,000 a year fave store. how bout fuck race all together.
why pay attention to what color people go where the most... its just people going to places to do their thing. ive got more important things to think about and do than paying attention to race in anyway.

I always wonder how much money the people who always call to "boycott Wal-Mart" make.
Obviously more than Wal-Mart employees and, odds are, more than the average Wal-Mart shopper. Unfortunately, reality often makes it so that social justice has to take a backseat to survival.
I am glad the anti-Wal-Mart types can afford to shop wherever the hell they want, but most are forced to perpetuate the system out of sheer need.

I totally agree with what you are saying here but I would also like to say ... that is similar to the unhealthy friends of mine that say to me that they can't eat better because they can't afford it. (Those same people smoke half the time) I don't own a car and I walk each weekend to the farmer's market to get food and am careful with the rest. I dont make a ton of money, I live simply and try to think about my impact on the world.
This may seem irrelevant but so many people make excuses for where they shop and things they use! The fact is that Wal Mart is huge because it is a hungry business in a (mostly) lazy environment. Target is less expensive now on a huge amount of their inventory, as are a few other competitors. Wal Mart is made up of 75% things you don’t really need and 25% things you could get elsewhere with a tiny bit of effort (i am including food in the 25%). Money over morals is not an acceptable way to change things. This is a company that is a huge polluter, doesn't care about their employees, makes HUGE profits and pockets so much of it that it is sick, they take over real estate in towns that don’t have the finances to keep them away and lower surrounding property values, they duck environmentally conscious practices whenever possible, they ignore complaints from employees about working conditions that in other companies would seem obviously despicable (including docking pay for sick employees and no bathroom breaks and dangerous work environments), they have an outlandishly low number of employees enrolled in health insurance programs, etc etc etc.My point is- WHY WOULD YOU GO THERE!? Honestly. Why? If you wouldn't want to work there, you wouldn't want a family member to work there, you think their policies are disgusting and inhumane.... then why?

That was a joke right? Cause the image of my honkey step dad going in to some Crank like shooting spree because he can't look at the kayaks, is a great visual. So I'll assume the black comment was to set up the white joke and say kudos.

I think most of the people on this site make less than WalMart people. They just seem to like to jump on the bandwagon, medical marijuana, racism, big corporations, most of it is just bullshit. And several race baiter/race haters, from all races, come to the surface from time to time. The biggest worry seems to be being able to smoke your dope.

Even though this was in poor taste, it's actually kinda funny, like something Improve Everywhere might do.
I would have laughed my ass off, no matter what my skin color was, but that's just me and my (um . . . strange) sense of humor.
I remember playing the end of Rush 2112 over the p.a. at the Battlefield Mall back in '75. It was a busy Saturday during the X-Mas season, and to their astonishment, the many patrons heard the following:
"We are the planets of the Solar Federation . . . . .
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .We have assumed control!!!"Needless to say, my boss was not impressed with my announcement.
But my friends sure had a good laugh!

Honestly, though the joke may not be the in the greatest of taste, this really isn't that big of a ****ing deal. Anyone who is getting "upset" about this is extremely weak minded. Wal-Mart doesn't need to get a shit storm over this. A customer probably just accessed the PA and said it.
In all reality, this is hilarious that someone pulled this little stunt off. If it hurt your feelings, just get over it. Life moves on.

I really hope it was just a joke made by a non-racist individual, because it is funny. I hope the tone was ben stein like.

Ben Stein LMAO. If I was there I probably would have busted out laughing just at the absurdity of it. I've had some racist shit thrown my way before, but honestly that would have made my day, just to see the look on people's faces.

Not that I have any love for WallMart, and can easily find excuses to boycott them, I don't think this is WallMart's fault.
PA systems are not under lock and key- that would make it hard to get to them in an emergency.
Sometimes bad people do bad things, and it's the bad person's fault- not the fault of the place they did it in.
