In many ways, if you’ve already read the review (here) of “Nurse Jackie,” you’ve also read our critique of the “United States of Tara.” Only the names and the title character’s flaws were changed.
Tara, like Jackie (and Nancy Botwin of Weeds) is a likable woman, who loves her husband and children and is smart and caring. Like Jackie (and Nancy Botwin), too, Tara is surrounded by people who return her love and are full bodied rather than typical TV stick figures.
But having said that, Tara, particularly as played by the delightful Toni Collette (who won both an Emmy and a Golden Globe last year for this role), is the most unique (the equivalent of unique squared) character ever to hit the tube.
