Comedy Central Bans South Park Episode? (UPDATE)

The censorship is due to the uproar of death threats towards Matt Stone and Trey Parker (the creators of South Park) after an last week's episode included an image of the Prophet Muhammad disguised in a bear suit, even though they didn't actually show an image of the Prophet Mohammed. The threats warn Matt and Trey that they risk violent retribution. In "201" it was reveled that Muhammad wasn't in the bear suit, Santa Claus was in it.
http://current.com/news/92387879_death-threats-for-south-park-creators-after-muh...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZbtgjx9xE0
In the episode, not only was the image of Muhammad censored, but so was the name of Muhammad. Every time someone said Muhammad, they were bleeped. Also censored was the 'lesson speech' that Kyle and/or Stan gives at the end of almost every episode about what the kids has learned during the episode. There was at least 30 seconds of audio that was bleeped out between the characters Stan, Santa Clus, and Jesus Christ.
I watched this episode on television and I thought the censorship was apart of the joke, but now it looks like it wasn't a joke.
This isn't the first depiction of Muhammad that South Park has done. There have been at least two prior depictions of Muhammad on South Park -- one in 2001, and another in 2006 that was also censored, but can be found online.
Here's another:

UPDATE: the "Super Best Friends" episode that features Muhammad uncensored has now been blocked:
http://www.southparkstudios.com/full-episodes/s05e04-super-best-friends
and blocked on Netflix Instant Play. The episode has been pulled from iTunes as well as episode 200, 201 hasn't been put on iTunes.

This issue was covered years before this episode was even a thought by matt and trey in the “cartoon wars parts 1&2” episodes which surprises me that comedy central chose to do what they did…the point they were trying to make is that either everything is ok to make fun of or nothing is, and if you choose to stop doing something that is right just because you were threatened, you are no better than the people that threatened you…if comedy central had just whatched these 2 episodes before they made their decision, I think they would have made the right choice instead of the one they did…if it were left up to matt and trey, im willing to bet they would have aired it uncensored, also with something added to address the threats they received…they should have aired it uncensored, and then put the icing on the cake by re-running it every single night for a month. And to the people who are so offended by south park that they are willing to violate the shows first ammendment rights to exist: YOU MADE YOURSELF A TARGET BY GETTING YOUR PANTIES SO MUCH IN A BUNCH OVER A CARTOON THAT ONLY PEOPLE WHO THINK LIKE MATT AND TREY ENJOY…THEY DO IT BECAUSE YOU MAKE IT SO GOD DAMN EASY FOR THEM!...if tom cruise and the scientologists had just said “oh well, its just a stupid cartoon.” Like everyone else did, matt and trey wouldn’t have felt so compelled to make an extra 3 episodes making fun of them…if issac hayes hadnt been so groovy with making fun of everything and everyone except his own religion, they never would have made the episode where they turned his character into a child molester and blamed his “gay little club” (the gay little club being scientology) for making him that way. He helped them for years making fun of countless celebrities, activist groups, and litterally every other religion in existence, and cashed all his checks with a smile on his face, but as soon as they wanna poke a little fun in his direction, the show is suddenly “offensive, tastless, and down right immoral”. Basically what comedy central told us is “were perfectly willing to show you christopher reeves snapping a fetus in half and sucking its blood, let someone say that every preist in the world (including the pope) is a pedophile, and say that every other religion is a lie, but we will not under any circumstances allow an image of muhammad, or someone to make fun of tom cruise or scientology on our network.” LET SOUTH PARK AIR!!!

I absolutely despise that show. It's disrespectful and disgusting most of the time. BUT I would never censor it because that's against the spirit and letter of our laws. I just CHOOSE to ignore it.
In the USA we're supposed to have the right to think and choose for ourselves. It's our only defense against open and free exchange of ideas which is also our right. We have the right to choose what to watch and what not to watch on TV.

In the same episode Jesus was addicted to internet porn and Buddha did blow in front of the kids but they werent allowed to even say Muhammad in 201. They even censored the entire end of the fucking episode.
The best part? The creators of South Park did it on purpose. Episodes 200 and 201 are about the stupidity of giving in to threats of violence. Way to knuckle under to threats of violence comedy central.

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/04/23/road-radicalism-man-south-park-threats/
Fox provides an illuminating profile of the young convert to and Misunderstander of Islam who threatened South Park, demonstrating yet again the jihadists' consistent tendency to portray themselves as the exponents of authentic, pure Islam.
The real tragedy here is that a rapidly declining number of non-Muslim Westerners seem willing to stand up to this thuggery. Instead, they appear all too willing to kowtow and give the jihadis what they want, as long as the jihadis don't hurt them -- even Bill O'Reilly was saying this the other day.
The jihadis are saying that those who insult Islam should be killed, which is standard Islamic teaching."Road to Radicalism: The Man Behind the 'South Park' Threats," by Joshua Rhett Miller for FOXNews.com, April 23:
EXCLUSIVE: By all appearances, Zachary Adam Chesser was the boy next door. He played football and was on the crew team at one of the best high schools in the country. He even studied Japanese. He was hardly the sort of boy you'd expect would suggest on a radical Islamic website that the creators of the edgy cartoon series "South Park" will be targeted for death.
But Chesser also had a dark side. He was a "loner," a former classmate said, one who frequently drew pictures of Satanic figures in his notebooks and had just a few friends, most of them male.
"He was definitely sort of weird," the classmate told FoxNews.com. "He was very into violent industrial music, borderline Satanic bands and stuff like that. He had dark undertones in his interests."
Two years later, Chesser is literally a changed man. He now uses an alias and has a new set of hobbies. He now likes to be called Abu Talhah Al-Amrikee, and his primary interest in this world appears to be Islamic radicalism.
Last week, Chesser, 20, posted a warning on the website RevolutionMuslim.com following the 200th episode of "South Park," which included a caricature of the Prophet Muhammad disguised in a bear suit. The young man, who just two years ago was studying foreign languages at George Mason University, wrote on the site that Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the cartoon's creators, "will probably end up" like Theo van Gogh, a Dutch filmmaker who was murdered in 2004 after making a film critical of Islamic society.
"It's not a threat, but it really is a likely outcome," Chesser told FoxNews.com from his home in Centreville, Va. "They're going to be basically on a list in the back of the minds of a large number of Muslims. It's just the reality."...

Just as I suspected: Adam Chesser is a young punk wanna-be 'terrorist' (who ironically looks like a South Park character). Is this guy just ASKING to be memorialized by Matt/Trey, with a young resident of South Park named 'Adam'? Are one of the boys going to disavow all their South Park up-bringing and manners (LOL!) and pull "an Adam"?
For one, the most obvious tell is that "REAL" muslims wouldn't be watching Comedy Channel; did this dude Google "offensive to muslims"? That's like those Bible thumpers who go to strip clubs to "save" the strippers for Jesus, watching the show with a hard-on: we all know how THAT one works!
This dude is just another internet troll who's casting a big scary hand-puppet shadow over the internet, when there's 100,000 of punks just like him out there. For every nut-job out there acting like a big islamic bad-ass terrorist, there's another one willing to act like a red-neck Nazi. So this Adam picks the most-hated anti-social imagery he can find in the U.S., and plays to all of your fears. You've been Punked, worse than by that corn-fed dude who sleeps with the old lady!
PS wasn't there another suburban social outcast named 'Adam', who actually went to Afghanistan to join up Al Qaeda? Is this guy a Gedahn wanna-be? Wasn't Gadahn actually JEWISH? (*gasp!*)

As usual TDS nails it by pointing out that the group that made the death threats gets to enjoy all the freedom they are protesting against by living in NYC
Also pointing out how well all the other faiths have taken all the mocking that TDS has done over the years in contrast to the threats they made.
So they certainly deserved the hearty "Go Fuck Yourselves" with the choir backup

Let's get one thing straight here and it's the only issue worth considering. Mohammed was a warlord, a mass murderer (he personally helped to behead all 900 members of the Jewish Banu Qurayza tribe in one day), a psychotic liar, a bandit, a plunderer, a pedophile, a rapist, a slave owner. He was a 7th century Hitler, Himmler, Attila, Stalin and Mao all wrapped up in one package of psychopathic hatred and murderousness. It's all in the Sira, the OFFICIAL Muslim biography of Mohammed by Ibn Ishaq. Read it and learn. Then you will see that the only response to this repugnant scumbag is ridicule and satire.

Anyone who saw the episode must have made note of the fact that they were not parodying Muhammad himself, but the fact that he cannot be parodied. There was not one single insult to Islam or it's prophet in either of the two episodes. I thought the show was well done and got a valid point across.
I do not understand how an image of Muhammad is automatically a slam against an entire faith. I know this all stems from the Jyllands-Posten controversy of 2005, but the images and their intentions are vastly different. South Park has had an image of Muhammad in a previous episode (Episode 68 "Super Best Friends") with no controversy. Although it was a pre-2005 episode, religious-extremism is also pre-2005!
It also must be said that RevolutionMuslim represents a extreme fringe group that holds little standing in the Muslim community and with so many news organizations reporting this story, they seem to be giving this misguided group a degree of credibility. The fact that RevolutionMuslim is picking this late night cable cartoon as a target for potential violence is incredibly pathetic and petty. Anyone with true, secure Muslim faith and any degree of intelligence should be able to plainly see and appreciate the irony the episode made as it's focus.
Jeers to the censors and Comedy Central for succumbing to terrorism via blog! I think if the show aired uncensored, people would be more willing to discuss these sorts of things and really find out what is or isn't acceptable.

Which in and of itself is racist, since a small minority fringe group (what, a handful of individuals, if not a sole person?) is allowed to project the shadow which the rest of us ascribe to the larger group. Since we all KNOW ALL Muslims are intent to kill ALL non-believers, it's an easy pill for those prone to such beliefs to swallow. As if the media is allowed to dictate which fringe groups are to be feared, and which are not.
To those of you bent in a twist over this 'controversy', look in the mirrors, fools: you've been pwned!

I don't see how that statement is at all racist... What if I were talking about an extremist Christian group, like the Hutaree militia, for example? Would that reflect any sort of opinion of Christianity or the Christian community as a whole? Of course not. (By the way, Muslims are not a race of people!)
As for "Since we all KNOW ALL Muslims are intent to kill ALL non-believers, it's an easy pill for those prone to such beliefs to swallow." I hope that was a facetious comment. Otherwise, I must agree with Introspective, very naive. The majority of Muslims I have met over the years have been very peace loving people.
I think this is a very serious matter. It's a free speech issue. The war on terrorism is a war of ideas, and America's most cherished idea is the First Amendment. South Park has commented on every major religion and we are losing an important battle if we say it is okay to talk about or satirize certain faiths, but not all of them.

Naive? Hardly. But yes, it was tongue-in-cheek: I was mocking the average person's belief (or misbeliefs) and cultural ignorance, AKA hyperbole.
Think I'm off-base here? A recent poll verifies that most American PASTORS view Islam with suspicion, as a "dangerous" religion:
1214/-islam-is-a-dangerous-religion-most-american-pastors-say/index.html
If the congregation's PASTOR believes this, than how are they going to feed the sheep anything else?
It's that same kind of ignorance which the Bush/Cheney types could bank on, as they knew the average American didn't know (and didn't care about) the difference between Saudis and Iraqis, and any ol' target would do, just as long as some "towel-head" had to pay.
As far as freedom of speech for South Park, that's between Viacom and Matt/Trey. You've forgotten that freedom of speech means CONGRESS shall pass no laws infringing someone's rights to free speech: Viacom ain't the Fed.
If South Park creators truly felt like they were being censored, and they object to it, then they could always vote with their feet and take their skills elsewhere. Contractual obligations aside (have to see their agreement), Viacom has no obligation to let these guys broadcast their stuff in whatever form they wish. Remember: the threats included Viacom, and listed their corporate headquarters in NY.

It was hyperbolic, a bit over the top. But the basic point stands.
I was making fun of the average American's viewpoint, which is reflected by recent surveys which indicate how many American PASTORS believe Islam is a dangerous religion.
1214/-islam-is-a-dangerous-religion-most-american-pastors-say/index.html
For how can the congregation believe otherwise, if this is what their pastor is feeding?
It's this same ill-informed attitude that explains why Bush/Cheney had such an easy sell with the invading of Iraq to retaliate after 9/11: the average Joe doesn't know the difference between a secularist Iraqi and a fundamentalist Saudi, and worse, they didn't care! All that matters is that the blood of some 'towel-head' be spilled... Easiest lies to be accepted are those people WANT to be true.
As far as free speech, don't forget that the principle is "CONGRESS shall pass no laws abridging free speech", and says NOTHING about Viacom's right to refuse to broadcast anything delivered to them by Matt/Trey (depending on terms of their contract). If Matt/Trey believe they're being unfairly or illegally censored by Viacom, they can exercise their rights to walk to another network, sue, etc. Remember, the threat from this muslim group listed VIACOM'S address in NY as a target, too. If you think they're willing to take the heat and explosions for the sake of free speech, you're nuts.
I suspect Matt/Trey WON'T leave: as I've said above, creating controversy is a 'win' for them and Viacom (and how many here have tried to download the episodes in question?). It's all about the ratings, just have to be cautious not to cross the lines (analogous to Palin/Bachmann stirring the Tea Party types, but not too vigorously)....

http://revolutionmuslim.blogspot.com
This is a direct quote from revolutionmuslim.blogspot.com -- a continuation on their stance of the South Park episode. Posted April 21, 2010.
"Speaking out against ending this kind of insult toward the Prophet Muhammad is completely in line with the tenets of the religion. Indeed we find it to be a tragedy that there has been virtually no reaction from the so-called leaders of the Muslim community whom CNN and other organizations tout as representing “mainstream Islam.” We are saddened by the fact that this story is about what we have said rather than the impact it has on the Muslims as a whole.
Thus our position remains that it is likely the creators of South Park will indeed end up like Theo Van Gogh. This is a reality. The story is already getting international attention and the journalism overseas is not as objective as it is here. In fact, we can tell you with certainty that at least one Dutch newspaper has completely made up quotations to make their story more sensational. We are not trying to directly incite violence, but we are trying to explain the gravity of the situation and prevent this from occurring ever again. As stated in the words of the Prophet (peace be upon him) above, if one cannot alter the situation with their hand then they must speak out against it and try to change it that way.
We would also like Mr. Parker and Mr. Stone to understand the tastelessness of their portrayal, apologize and reflect on the words that follow. An apology or at least recognition of bad taste might not remedy the situation, but it would go a long way toward turning this situation from a gaping wound into an ugly scar. Any Muslim that condones this type of behavior or minimizes it does not fulfill the obligation of hating it with his or her heart and thus, as is stated emphatically in the hadith, may fall outside the necessary status of holding onto even the weakest of faith. Many conquered peopled become completely oblivious to the function of their oppressor in enslaving their minds so we seek no harm against them, but do hope that they may be inspired to adopt a proactive stance and work alongside us in the struggle to liberate Islam and Muslims from foreign control."

But what is so strange is that it is so inconsistent. As they mention in the article that there is still a depiction that they haven't censored on the web site from the Super Best Friends episode.
Is it not hypocritical to be retroactive, because it was before all the controversy and better left forgotten?
Or is it just because it wasn't made a fuss over it is exempt? That the only reason they censor the others is to CYA beceause it is a lot easier to fold under pressure to protect profits.

Besides,
South Park did keep Muhammad in a bear costume so that none of his cartoon skin would show

really? I watched it there a few days after it came out. Comedy Central is caving into Islamic threats. You know what needs to happen right? people in the US should take any random image whether it be a bear mascot like in south park or steve urkel and put the name Mohammed underneath it. Apparently it doesn't matter what the image is of, if it has Mohammed's name near it that's an automatic death sentence on the streets. Anyone want to put the text "Mohammed" underneath the Comedy Central logo???

That's weak, I mean it's fucking COMEDY CENTRAL, why would they take the comedy out? Because someone was offended? That's right! Comedy is never offensive.
Don't they make enough money to hire body guards?

I found even more hilarious that they took some really offensive shots in this last episodes. They put black face in there, they put santa in the bears suit, brought back Hennifer Lopez, Jesus was to weak to fight Streissand, there were so many things that were so much more offensive in this show. I think they were trying for that.

All of this political talk is ridiculous. Trey and Matt from South Park are not the ambassadors of white people, the USA, or non muslims. They are creating art, and it is not anyone's right to stop that art from being broadcast.
Just like crazy muslims have the right to threaten the south park creators, crazy television writers have the right to show mohammed if they choose.
I was under the impression that the south park contract allowed their work to be broadcast under any circumstances and that very strict rules regarding the network and their involvement in south park were in place. It seems they showed the episode the one time, censored, due only to contractual obligation.

South Park makes fun of everything and everybody so why not Muhammad.
I take the threats against the creators of South Park personally because this is what we do in America and we like it that way. In America we can choose not to watch anything we consider to be offensive. So if Muslim radicals don't like it don't watch cause you ain't changin nothin over here.Comedy Central snap out of it! Muhammad ain't payin the bills.

What does it say about our society when a network of comedians and satirists named "Comedy Central" dares to push more politically-incorrect buttons than the so-called conservatives (who are actually pseudo-conservatives) on the pseudo-News channel called "Fox"?
Ironic, as I thought the conservatives were SUPPOSED to be the ones decrying how politically-correct restrictions of "the libs" was a great offense that the likes of Palin and O'Reilly opposed. Now we see who's NOT rushing to the defense of South Park's notoriously un-PC speech: realize it ain't Palin or O'Reilly!
Apparently the Faux News entertainers can only amass mounds of hate speech against someone they know presents no threat for retaliation: BO! It's vastly easier to antagonize a target as the butt of your jokes, knowing fully well they're not going to strike back at you: chicken hawks!

from The Hollywood Reporter, April 22 :
''Now "South Park" can't even say the words "Prophet Muhammad."
After last week's episode of the Comedy Central series sparked a threat (and yes, it was certainly a threat) from a radical Islamic website, the network has cracked-down-for-their-own-good on creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone during last night's continuation of the show's storyline.
For those who missed the drama, the show's 200th episode last week mocked the one "celebrity" that the series has been largely unable to depict, the Prophet Muhammad, who was hidden from view in a bear costume. A U.S.-based website RevolutionMuslim.com then warned Parker and Stone they could end up like Theo Van Gogh (the Dutch filmmaker who was murdered by Muslim extremists after depicting Muhammad on his show) and even posted the address of the show's production office. The site has since been shut down.
Last night, "South Park" continued the controversial Muhammad storyline, but with a key difference: every instance of the words "Prophet Muhammad" was bleeped out, making the episode practically incomprehensible, especially to anybody who missed the previous week.
The character of Muhammad was once again also hidden from view, covered by a large block labeled "censored."
A Comedy Central spokesperson confirmed it was the network's decision to bleep the words....''
These cowards are not singular. The collapse of Western will and courage is all around us.
This is why Islamic supremacists issue threats and practice intimidation in the first place: because it works. These Hollywood dhimmis are only making sure that this sort of thing will happen again.

i am not an expert, but somehow i dont think that the muslim religion would allow watching south park in the first place...is someone calling up these extremists and telling them when a particular episode will be on? shouldnt they be more worried about duct taping explosives to their chest? i think the religious radicals out there should be spending their spare time doing something productive, not watching south park

Dang, forgot to watch it yesterday. Hope they still re-air it.
Although, if what you say is true, it is hilarious how they punked the Right-wing Muslims into defending Santa Clause instead of Muhammad, blessings and peace be upon him.

South Park Studios have removed the old episodes depicting Muhammad as well. The reason I watch South Park is because they provide social commentary about all groups. This is ridiculous.

comedy central, what has happened to you?
if the christians, aehtiests, jews, buddhists, hindus, and beliefs of all indegenous peoples were offended by your writings would you even have a show to produce?
of course all other civilized peoples of the world aren't likely to suddenly decide to threaten death against 'non-believers' like these extremists. I'll even bet those extremists who will place a sword between us are most likely in pretty deep 'poopies' with the "Big M''!
perhaps we should send comedy central a pair of nuticles, [prosthetic testicles given to the castrated]?
