I thought that was widely known for centuries that "old farts couldn't keep stuff straight"
Especially since Mozart had such trouble with Emperor Joseph II complaining about "too many notes" because "there are in fact only so many notes the ear can hear in the course of an evening"
That was the whole reason they came up with having only 4 chords so it wouldn't strain people too much

A very long tradition since as Emperor Joseph II established when reviewing Mozart "There are only so many notes that one can hear in an evening" so musicians took that to heart and found that "too many notes" meant more than 4 chords and they have followed that template ever since in order to be popular
