Deteriorata - from National Lampoon

EdJoyProductions
This is just so good. I am not crazy about the slide show, but the song is from a National Lampoon album. The original poem is by Tony Hendra and appeared in the magazine when I was a kid. I have always lived by it. Enjoy.

A quick explanation of one of the lines. "Strive at all times to bend, fold, spindle and mutilate" is a reference to what was printed on Food Stamps in the 70s and requested that you not do that with them. Most people under a certain age or over a certain class do not get that.

I thought of posting this after the "be assured that a walk through the oceans of most souls will scarcely get you feet wet " comment on the other post. I love that line. You were the one that gave me the idea to share this. Kudos. :)

It is a stunning line , I thank you for sharing it . Sometimes , as an artist I feel , desperately thirsty for art that "deep" . It feeds my soul . So little seems to these days . I gotta get out .....

    • I always remembered that phrase of "do not fold, bend, staple or mutilate" but could not rememeber where it was from!
I use it to this day when I am poking fun at certain items. And I usually get odd looks:))
      Thanks for the reminder!

When I was a kid, I understood everything except spindle. I had to ask quite a few people before I actually got an answer. A spindle is the big spike that they used to put receipts on in diners and shops.
