Make Homosexuals Marry - Video

randallr01
"Meet Devin & Glenn--two gents who met, fell in love, got married, and then had to deal with the consequences of that decision. From obnoxious in-laws (Tom Arnold) to passive aggressive fights over dinner, Devin & Glenn have the same problems that most married couples deal with--and that's the point. The folks behind this video wanted to show that marriage is marriage regardless of the sexuality of its inhabitants. Their campaign, "Make Homosexuals Marry," was created to "keep the 'No on 8' debate active in hopes that, through humor, a dialogue continues," said writers/directors Will Speck and Josh Gordon. The small group behind this video worked entirely for free--everyone from actors to craft service donated their efforts." -- The Huffington Post

Is this effective? What do you think?

    • Hilarious.
I don't see why people are so opposed to things that will not have any effect on them at all. Who cares if gay people get married? Does that mean that straight people can't?
And as far as redefining marriage- who defined it in the first place and how long ago was that? I know I sure as hell didn't vote on it. Isn't that the point of having a democracy? I thought our government was supposed to be flexible and adapt to the times. If we never changed the way laws are written, we would still be lynching black people. I mean, come on, don't we learn from our own history? Separate but equal does not work. That's how hate is bred. What is a worse message to teach our children: "Marriage means the bonding of two people who are in love" or "Gay people can't get married because they are different from us"

    • Aww. I love the message, and I'm a supporter of gay marriage rights - but I'm also a married woman and I have a very strong relationship with my husband, and am still as much in love with him as I was 6 years ago when we first fell in love.

While I love the video, I am getting a bit tired of marriage being burned on so much in society. There are a lot of strong marriages, not everyone is annoyed by their spouse all the time.

    • This... is hilarious.

And this debate is not even a debate. If you are a tax paying, contributing member of our union, you should have full rights as every other citizen, period. Anything less is simply discrimination.

apparently you didn't notice that the highest density of gays trying to cnnect was inside the whitehouse.

of course, that's what I'd expect from ksirys...maybe slow down and watch the clip before resorting to your tired republican bashing bitch sessions

you are sick, brother. My comment was not a value judgment against the whitehouse, it was just pointing out that your comment was based NOT upon the content of the video, but your own vile hatred.

You seem to make the assumption that I ignore gay behavior by Republicans and despise it among Democrats, which is false. I don't really care about the sexual orientation of any politician. I don't like ANYONE who preaches anti-gay rhetoric and then practices it, I hate tht kind of hypocrisy no matter who does it, just like I'd despise anyone who attacks someone for having an affair--while also committing the sin they condemn!

BTW, the "RepubliCANTs" thing is rather childish.

    • I thought the video was funny. But as realistically shocking and bizarre as marriage can be, I would just like the option to get married. All I want is equality. You can say, as curtisreed said, that all marriage should be Civil Unions, and that the definition of marriage itself is the purview of each church and not the state. Sounds good, Civil Union is the legal effect in the case of all “legal” marriages anyway. Unfortunately, the term marriage has been muddled to have various legal meanings depending on the state in question. One thing is for sure, most people in most states cannot marry people of their own gender. In the case of transsexuals, POST OPERATIVE (after the "sex change"), they cannot legally marry ANYONE, not even their opposite gender, because the marriage will have no legally binding power when tested in a divorce, in other words they are not legal marriages. I do not have a significant other who I want to marry. But I do want the option in case I get so lucky. And why not? I’m a nice person, I have not hurt anyone, I have no criminal record, criminals can get married. Can I get married too? Not now. Why? Because the majority in the US do not yet recognize equal rights for everyone, and are caught up in their bigoted opposition because of fear, ignorance, stupidity, or superstition. None of those ridicules reasons should abridge equal rights for everyone. All we want is equality, all we want is the privileges and responsibility that straight people have. Call it Getting Hitched, as far as I care. I just want the same rights as everyone else does. I just want to have the freedom to be happy. Why do I have to emotionally bleed forever?

    • ...people get married...and speaking from a straight point of view, I've avoided it like the plague...lol...but everyone should be given the opportunity, with all its ups and downs...I just don't get it...what's the problem...love is love is love...sigh...I just don't see gender where love and respect and dignity are concerned...sorry I'm ranting...I'm just a hopeless romantic...thanks Randall, your mate Down Under...

    • OK, the penis surfboard was hilarious. "You're a cliche!"

Thanks for sending this Randall. Very funny stuff.

I still dont' get why gays are so set on getting "married". Aren't gays given civil union rights? are those different for gays than for heteros? My wife and I got hitched via civil union...I just can't see what it matters if it's called civil union or marriage as long as the rights are the same.

Personally, the whole idea of a govt. defining marriage is wrong to me anyway. It's a religious concept, and religions define marriage differently, so the govt should get out of the business of defining marriage, everyone should apply for a civil union, let the churches work out who they will and won't "marry".

If the states (and especially the federal government) would allow Civil Unions to receive 100% of the benefits that Marriages do (tax purposes, pensions, visitation, social security, etc.), I bet the Gay Community would be just fine with that.

Yet many don't like the "separate, but equal" part of that. Labels do matter to a lot of people.

You're right, though. The government shouldn't be involved with marriages. Something's gotta give!

i asked a question without a hint of sarcasm or arrogance, and I'm glad you noticed.

I've said what I thought, which is civil unions should have all the rights of marriage, and the govt should not be in the business of regulating marriage, since it is by its very definition a religious concept. I still don't think polygamy should be illegal, it seems like the govt chose one religious concept of marriage and applied it to th ecountry, which seems to me a constitutional violation

Hmmm. Now it seems like in the news the vast majority of conservatives I've heard have not had a problem with giving homosexuals the rights in civil unions...they just didn't want to redefine marriage.

i still think there hs to be a friendly solution to this damn issue, there's no reason committed homosexuals shouldn't be encouraged to join and there's no reason why we should have a goddang govt defining and redefining "marriage"

I wouldn't want for the Fed Gvt to tell the states what to do...I'd rather maintain some semblance of states' rights...

but one thing might resolve it: if there was a law that simply required for civil unions and marriages to contain the same rights within each state, at least that way in every state, whatever rights a hetero couple has, a gay couple would have.

it seems like people have gotten so worked up on both sides no one is willing to find common ground.

I know rite!! That's what I was thinking. "You're not going out," in that tone, is reminiscent of machismo or chauvinism, which doesn't really exist in the Gay Community. Just about everything else in the video would ring pretty true.

that was one of the parts that sounded quite strongly like whoever wrote the script had no idea what marriage is like!

in reality, the whole thing was pretty superficial, but since it seemed only intended to entertain, why go crazy nit picking

    • I'm not so sure I want marriage rights, after seeing this!! Hahaha...

But on a serious note, I think that this video is positive for the Gay Rights debate; it injects some light-hearted reality into the Marriage Equality discussion, and has a great point:

If you don't like the homo lifestyle, end it with marriage.

I agree with you that this kind of message has a much better chance of being received thoughtfully...although all the overt gay sexual inuendo is going to be too much for many people.
