I needed some Mos Def!!!

After spending a whole day at a barbecue with friends I was exhausted.

The whole day was fun, however, the host decided to bring a personal touch to the music. The music was selected with the mind set of “what was cool now days, which plays on the cool stations ".she said.

Oh my goodness, talk about bubble gum music; every song was like listening to a robot from a sixties B movie.

The same rhythm, talking about the same thing, everybody is a gangster; It’s all about violence, electronic sounds over the artist voice and imitations from one and other. We lost free-styling, uniqueness, real sound, and originality.

When the barbeque ended I ran home and turn on my computer, typed “Mos Def” on my search engine and Voila’! My ears were delighted with the wonderful sound of real Hip Hop.

There are too many amazing underground artists that our generation has been deprived. The market is saturated with bad music, bad artist, bad productions, bad shows, bad singers, and bad listeners.

We have the responsibility to save our music, to recognize new talent, independent musicians and expose them to the world.

Spending time with friends was great and the food was delicious but next time we have a barbeque, there should be a vote to determine who will be the DJ and the winner should present to a panel his/her music background knowledge.

      I've been listening to Mos Def a whole lot lately, as well. I love this new album The Ecstatic. I cannot stand mainstream music. I decided not to turn on the cable when I moved to my current residence about a year ago, and I dont listen to the radio. I've got an iPod that has about 4000 songs, which I am pretty consistent about updating. Hip Hop is not really my favored genre though.

      I love how bold he is...great artist!!! Good luck with the album release....

      I also disconnected my cable 3 years ago....no radio unless is NPR or a local show from AM...Hate the music industry monopoly, that do not allow new artist in and always show the same thing over and over again.... your flip a channel a husband, next channel the wife, next channel the lover...next channel the gay lover...oonoooo need great music no drama.... I do not know their whole repertoire but the little be I know from some is OK...Like I said before those are not my favorites.... I promise I will email you my favorites soon...
