Steve King: Obama Has 'Default Mechanism' That 'Favors The Black Person'

Image
TimALoftis
Rep. Steve King (R-IA) said today that President Obama "favors the black person" by default in an argument.

Media Matters reports that King made the remarks this morning in an appearance on the G. Gordon Liddy radio show, during a discussion of the Obama administration's criticism of the new Arizona anti-illegal immigration law:

King: When you look at this administration, I'm offended by Eric Holder and the President also, their posture. It looks like Eric Holder said that white people in America are cowards when it comes to race. And I don't know what the basis of that is but I'm not a coward when it comes to that and I'm happy to talk about these things and I think we should. But the President has demonstrated that he has a default mechanism in him that breaks down the side of race - on the side that favors the black person.

    • The only reason this keeps happening is that people pander to these kinds of statements. Most statesmen, in my experience, are pretty intelligent people, but have no qualms about doing whatever they have to do to retain their positions. The fact someone can make such a blatantly obvious racist statement such as this shows we are not as 'post-racial' as we think we are.

    • Pete King has a default mechanism that favors placing his foot in his mouth. Though if we catch him putting a black foot in his mouth, or any other male body part, then we'd have a scandal. As it is now, buffoonery in republican circles is politics as usual. In fact I believe his approval rating will go up as a result of his asinine comments.

    • Something so ignorant coming out of this idiot’s mouth isn’t surprising. After all, he’s the same guy who said the following:

“There’s been legislation that’s been brought through this House that sets aside benefits for women and minorities. The only people that it excludes are white men...Pretty soon, white men are going to notice they are the ones being excluded.”

Good job sir. Somebody has to look out for the white man’s interests. They’ve been oppressed by this country and the world for far too long. With your help, hopefully they will rise up from the trenches of inequality someday.

That's right no white people ever did ANYthing for him right? Not his grandparents.... or his commie freinds in California or in his state to get him to the White House slicker than ....what was that snake sh*t you say? Even his wife doesn't hide her disdain for whites...maybe she didn't know he was half Irish.....no wait his mama was at the wedding. Sorry "the devil made me do it!" Flip Wilson.

    • Steve King must favor white people if he can imagine Obama favoring black people.

Also, since when is the border crossing issue about black people? I am fairly certain it is about mostly Mexican's crossing the southern border of the country. Maybe our friend kind here should google a few things before talking next time.

    • And??? -- what does it matter if Obama "favors the black people" in speaking out against a law that "favors the white people" and racially profiles the "suspected illegal brown people"?

    • someone needs to favor the black person. after 400 years of systematic hate and oppression the black race is the most endangered species on earth. we dont want a handout. just get your foot off my fuckin neck. allow us the same oppurtinities given to the other races that have immigrated here. and stop judging us by the negative sterotyped images that are portrayed every day in the news. remember this, black people are the original beings. we were the first to walk upright.every human on the earth owes his existence to a BLACK woman. do yourself a favor google THE DOGON TRIBE.then rip that picture of that blond hair, blue eyed fair skinned so called Jesus christ that you worship off the fuckin wall. god has no color. and racism has no bounds.

I'd hate to say many indigenous tribes all over the world, have got you on the, "most endangered species on earth" thing...

Of course only one of these groups would be absolutely correct, a few of them would be correct in the sense that they are far more endangered.

Then there is the fact the scientists still speculate on colors of dinosaurs, and although I don't think the original pair were "white" they could have easily fallen into any color variation in between... but you're right racism knows no bounds...

as you and i have danced the perverbial semetic dance on here a number of times you know full well i am aware of jewish ethnicities, so i can only surmise you are compelled to type that comment to fullfill the desire to instigate.
      but ill play along
i was refering to jews within the context of this story, wich is about the united states of america.and the jewish population in the untited states of america is overwhelmingly caucasian.so as a characterization of jews, within the context of the united states, generalizing them as white is not perfect but accurate.
being as we are a country of primarily anglo people, the falasha, and sephardim neednt be mentioned as they are already seen as minorities regardless of religion.

And as for the argument that white people aren't cowards when it comes to racism... really. How many white politicians honestly address race in any forward-thinking way?

we are all so shy with racism we still think it simply means whitey hates darkie.we ignore it is inherent in human understanding and can be positive too, like ethnic pride.pride based on your race.the italian heritage club in my town is racist, but thats ok cuz its not a bad thing that they exist only for italians.no harm no foul.except for whitey, whitey dont get to have his race presented as a matter of pride due to a really bad first run at it.

Well yeah, Freecrack. If you're known for centuries as a race of ignorance and oppression you kinda get labeled. I don't condone it, but...eh. We shouldn't have been stupid for the past few hundred years. We'd get far more respect as a culture.

Racism can never be positive. I for one would argue it is a rational outcome based on cultural and perhaps biological factors that are almost universal, but racial pride isn't merely liking how you look. When one is oppressed based on their appearance, it generally emerges as a sense of subhumanness in comparison to other groups. Cultivating a sense of pride around one's maligned identity is a way to combat oppression in all its forms. Ideally, no one should have to express collective pride over who they are to find some self-acceptance. But that's just the world we're in.

you are speaking from a contemperary perspective where psa's tech us that racism is wrong, wich as an ism can be, just as it can also be good.depending on the user.
      example:
      the middle east is uncivilized-
this is racist as it makes a statement about a terrirtory that is overwhelmingly arab, so middle east serves as a psuedonym for arab.and to state that they are catagoricaly uncivilized is a racist statement pigeon holing all of them for the ills of the few of them.
the middle east is the cradle of civilization-
this is also a racist comment as it still is a broad generalization using a region as psuedonym for arabs, but this time the broad characterization is used to promote them, as not only being civilized, but so much so they are the creators of such a notion.

we as americans have a unique perspective on this as a result of our shamefull history.the lessons we learn arent really about the basis of hate speech, but the basis of hate speech against those we have wronged.
if you notice black jokes are the sole property of black people (and some how lisa lampaneli) while everyone else is fair game.its not so much about true equality fo us as it is dont fuck up where we fucked up in the past, wich is bias based on skin color.as long as its not about skin color go nuts.
tv shows that even elude to a black person liking watermelon will get killed, but cheap jew jokes still alive and well.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GVS4Zgjm8HE&feature=related

Racism and racial pride aren't inherently interlocked.

I don't see how your examples show racism being a good thing. The use of the middle east in your two statements aren't remotely equitable. The first suggests people, the people of the middle east, are uncivilized, as a piece of land can't be civil or uncivil, it just is. The second implies the geographic region, regardless of who currently resides there, was where civilization as we know it started. Your interpretation of the second comment isn't racist so much as an attempt of accuracy.

And to be accurate, when you say "we as americans," I feel you mean "we as white americans," since you focus on black people, and for the overwhelming majority of U.S. History, it was white men who made the decisions of who was subhuman and who had to be liberated by our superior ways (from Communists, terrorists, ect...)

And yes, as long as things aren't about skin color people are going nuts. Which I agree, is ridiculous. People all all religions and lackthereofs have way too much liberty to attack one another with limited social consequence. I personally try to be fair on this point, but from what I see Islam is most inequitably attacked. There are more images of hyperwesternized muslims than of the culturally diverse members of other religions, equating all hints of nonwestern Islam as the enemy. When governments start thinking that banning headdresses is an act of liberation, shit is ridiculous. When there is no incentive to understand or humanize the peoples of a region we are trying to take over, it's ridiculous. But all of that is something reserved for another place..

racism is having a belief about people based on race no? the crime of racism is always that it discounts the element of individuality and is negative in that regard, but if the assertion is a positive one, its still racist but positive racism.
      all asians are smart.
its racist, and its not bad.
      all indians are kind.
or whatever positive attribute you want to brand a race with. its a form of racism, on the positive end of the spectrum

racism isn't mere generalization, it's when one dominant group of people belief and behave as if they are superior to another. calling all Asians smart is a stereotype, like saying all black people are good at sports and Jewish people are all rich. Even if these stereotypes can be turned to hurt people (Asians then seen as physically weak, black people seen as dumb, Jewish people greedy), the 'positive' generalizations themselves aren't racist. At least that's what everyone I've read on it has concluded..

interesting, we just have different ideas of what racism is. to me racism is simply a matter of creating generalizations of a people based on race.i dont see it being a matter of dominance as black people can be racist to whites, and (believe me) jews can be the equivalent to christians.wether or not the racist ideas come with any authority (dominant versus minority) it doesnt change the nature of the racist idea.
i still maintain that racism is just a tool and it all depends on how it is held that dictates weather or not it is also a weapon.

but i do agree it is a product of ignorance, as believing any statement about any people, fails to recognize the individuality we all posses as every person is different.

How dare he question our lord and savior Barry Obama's own racism, never mind the fact he's been recorded saying basically his own grandmother is a racist. (I'm sorry it's just the way he said his grandma is racist, sounded racist, you'd have to hear it)

Or all the other accounts I'm to tired too mention, just go watch Glenn Beck, mute it every time you hear his (Beck's) voice if you must, he still isn't faking those recordings or the contexts which could and have been researched outside of the Glenn Beck program.

No our self described "black" president, is certainly not biased in favor of the black race no....
